140 Valentine’s Day Recipes

Red Velvet Poke Cake

[Pictured above: Red Velvet Poke Cake]

Ah, Valentine’s Day. The holiday everyone either loves or loves to hate. I still remember agonizing over picking out the perfect Valentines to pass out at school, and making sure that the exact right one got into the hands of whatever boy I had a schoolgirl crush on that week. Thank goodness passing out Valentines was phased out before high school. Talk about the potential for catastrophic teenage girl trauma!

Whether you still pass out Valentines or you think it’s an overhyped card-company holiday, one fact can’t be denied: the day is an excellent excuse to indulge in fabulous food and decadent desserts. Whether itโ€™s a work party, a girlโ€™s night in, a school party for your kids or celebrating with your significant other, Iโ€™ve got some recipes that you’re going to love. From breakfast to dinner, dessert and sweet snacks, this roundup will get you off to a great start. Iโ€™ll also be sharing more new recipes next week, so stay tuned and enjoy browsing!

My tradition is to make heart-shaped, frosted sugar cookies. But I use a buttercream frosting instead of the glaze. Might switch it up this year and do your baked hot chocolate! ๐Ÿ™‚

I remember those days in grade school, passing out the small little Valentine cards, I always loved doing that. I see a couple of recipes that I’d like to try on that list! Thanks for posting! ๐Ÿ™‚

    Hi Michelle,

I’m looking for something besides cookies to mail. Is there anything you’d recommend? I was thinking perhaps a scone but would they survive the three days in the mail. Any help would be awesome!
    Thank you!

Hi Desiree, Scones are really best the day they’re made, and can get stale fairly quickly. I recommend something like brownies if you’re looking for a cookie alternative. I hope that helps!

Hi Stefanie, Obviously there are a lot to choose from! From this group of desserts, I would probably say the chocolate peanut butter torte, Snickers cake, tiramisu, chocolate sugar cookies, and ultimate chocolate cupcakes. I hope that helps ๐Ÿ™‚

I don’t usually post comments to the blogs I read but your step by step for decorating with royal icing was FABULOUS! I love baking sugar cut out cookies but have hated decorating them because I always make such a mess and end up taking so much longer to decorate. After reading your step by step, I prepped prepped prepped and it was a breeze. Thanks again! Congrats on 7 years!
