Just made these for my two girls for Christmas morning :) They are both plotthound mixes. One is 16 months or so, the other is 3-5 years old (unknown as she was a rescue)

I omitted the baking powder since it is considered toxic to doggies - Instead, I added 1/2 cup of applesauce, a teaspoon or so of water and an extra dash of milk.

Both dogs love them!!!

I baked them for about 10 minutes or so.

Thanks for the recipe!!

Rosie(our puppy) is giving this as Christmas presents to her doggie cousins :) I was able to make about 53 too! I did little Christmas trees for the holidays! Thanks again!

i am making these for all of the dogs in my family for Christmas... Molly (bluetick coonhound), Bella (italian greyhound), Sandy (yellow lab), Pritzie (maltipoo), Izzy (toy poodle), and Skeeter (italian greyhound). Molly is mine, and she is turning 1 on Jan. 3rd.
Any good recipes for a 'doggy cake' or something special?

Wow! I can't wait to bake these for my sweet furry friend. I LOVE the photo of Einstein with the paws on the counter. No way my dog would have that much restraint. They would all be gone in the blink of an eye! I bought a doggy recipe book awhile back but have only made one item from the book because all the recipes are complicated. These look so easy and simple to make. My Samba says thanks to Einstein's mom for these tips!

Hi Maria, Yes you can use regular all-purpose flour, the whole wheat just makes them a little healthier ;-)

I made these treats over the weekend but modified the recipe some (took out the baking powder and added some other ingredients) and Rockwell (our Basset) loves them. Here is what I did...

Peanut Butter Doggie Cookies

Ingredients:
2 cups whole-wheat flour
1 cup natural peanut butter
1 cup low-fat milk
1/2 cup quick cooking oats
1/2 cup applesauce
1/4 cup carrot shreds chopped up
1/4 cup cheddar cheese chopped up

Mix all together. Place 1 teaspoon size balls on cookie sheet. Mash with fork (like you would a peanut butter cookie) Bake at 375 for 10-15 minutes. My dog likes his treats on the soft side so I took them out at about the ten minute mark.

[...] Two years later, my gut instinct about Cali turned out to be true–she is a strange and crazy dog. But I wouldn’t want it any other way. She keeps life interesting and has brought me and Jeff even closer. The day we brought Cali home. She loved her little doughnut bed. Until she discovered our bed… I love these homemade dog treats from Brown Eyed Baker because they require limited ingredients and are so easy to make. Also, Cali is totally obsessed with peanut butter as are most dogs. I bought my dog bone cookie cutter at Sur la Table for a buck, but you of course can use any shape you want. Peanut Butter Dog Treats Adapted from Brown Eyed Baker [...]

My dogs, B and Albert, are chocolate labs that never miss the slight noise of a jar of peanutbutter being opened! They love these treats, and sit patiently hoping for a bite of the dough while I make them. Thanks for a great, simple recipe!

yes. baking powder is poisonous to dogs. it causes muscle spasms and in larger amounts causes heart failure. i dont really see why baking powder needs to be included in this recipe. with just milk, peanut butter and flour, the batter should be quite heavy and dense and unlikely to rise much anyway. even though its only a tablespoon and unlikely to cause damage to your pet, i would recommend not including baking powder in future batches or recipes for dogs.

What a great recipe. I profess to be a non-dog lover but find myself knitting sweaters for my son and dil's French bulldog and he is a huge fan of peanut butter. These look like they would suit him just fine!
