Otherwise known as The Great Pizza Tossing Debacle.
Okay so it wasn’t necessarily a debacle, I mean the pizza WAS edible, but things certainly didn’t go as smoothly as I had planned. I made the pizza on a Tuesday night with the plan to let it rest overnight in the fridge (per the recipe) and make it on Wednesday. Well, along came the migraine from hell that kept coming back off and on for a couple of days and needless to say I wasn’t interested in doing much of anything in the way of making food. So I ended up letting the dough sit in the fridge until Friday and although the recipe states that the dough can stay in there for up to 3 days, I have to think that perhaps it caused the dough to get too soft. The result was a less than stellar attempt at tossing.
This month’s challenge was hosted by Rosa’s Yummy Yums. She was slated to co-host with Sher of What Did You Eat? but as many in the food blogging community are aware, Sher passed away suddenly over the summer. As a tribute to Sher, Rosa kept the recipe that Sher had wanted to use for the challenge - Neopolitan Pizza by Peter Reinhart.
Aside from the literal flop of my pizza dough tossing experience, I would give this recipe an “okay”. I’d really like to try it again and shape the dough after only one night in the refrigerator. It definitely had a very light and airy texture - more of what I would expect from a traditional Italian pizza that you might find on the sidewalks of Venice. If you’re looking for more of an “American” pizza recipe, definitely check out this one - it’s the best I’ve made to date - it has a crispy exterior and soft and chewy interior. For the Peter Reinhart recipe for this challenge, please visit Rosa’s blog.

That video makes me laugh every time I see it. You are so flipping cute! Your pizza looks delicious. I really think you should try this dough again, it was delicious. It was so fun tossing it in the air, it made me feel special and important… and stuff. Haha
Great video and great pizza!
That’s hilarious! Still looks yummy even with the flop:)
It’s too funny to actually hear your voice!
Your video is too funny! The pizza still looks delicious though. Try it again, it really is delicious!
Fantastic looking pizza!
That is pretty darn funny.
Honestly, I don’t think the problem was the long rest in the fridge. My dough looked pretty much exactly the same as that after just one night. The recipe has a bit less flour per water than CI’s, which I think it what makes it so…stretchable, for lack of a better word.
You are WAYYY too cute!! LOL!
If it’s any consequence, with my luck, the dough would’ve probably ended up on the floor. Kudos to you for even posting the video!
You are the most adorable thing AND your kitchen is clean and clutter-free. I’m way jealous.
Hehe, that was so cute! Your pizza looks amazing!
Seriously, you are having way too much fun with that.
I have the same problem. I used to work at Dominoes and had no problem spinning the dough but I can not get the same effect at home with any recipe I have tried. They still taste good though so maybe I should give up and just roll it or press it out.
Looks like it still turned out delicious, though. Tossing pizza is tough.
thanks for the fun vid!
mmm i love homemade pizza
that’s a cool video - congrats on your “debut”!
Shelley you are SO cute!! with your lil accent n all. It’s cool to be able to hear your voice. And that pizza looks delish!
Great video!! The pizza looks yummy too! I hope you are feeling better!
Too funny - you sure got further than I did - my tossing looked more like the return of the blob.
Too funny! I like your video. I cannot toss the pizza dough at all. I always break a hole in it. You did pretty good. And the end result looks perfect.
Great work! I am always worried about throwing pizza dough. It is the fear that if I drop it it will be ruined (and I am pretty sure I will drop it!) The end result looks delicious!
Looks great! Fun that someone posted footage of the dough tossing!
I learned to toss pizza dough at a restaurant I used to work for. Takes a lot of guts to let go that first time!
Hi Chelle - I have tagged you for a meme, the details are on my blog - I hope you play!
