It’s football season, folks! Today starts the NFL’s Kickoff Weekend, which begins with a night game featuring none other than the Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers hosting the Tennessee Titans. Since I already threw Pittsburgh Penguins decorated sugar cookies at you during the Stanley Cup playoffs, I figured I couldn’t play favorites and needed create Steelers cookies for the start of the season. After the Super Bowl last year I bought a Pfaltzgraff Pittsburgh Steelers cookie mold (I bought it on eBay but can’t find it on there any longer) and used it to create these cookies.

The cookies are decorated with royal icing and the word “Steelers” was imprinted with black fondant. If you are new to cookie decorating, you may want to check out the tutorial I did on how to decorate cookies with royal icing. Since the mold was very easy to press the fondant into, I am thinking about trying a version of the cookie decorated with fondant for a smoother look. But then again, sugar cookies were MADE for icing! In any case, enjoy, and best of luck to your team, unless they play the Steelers this season! ;-)

HERE WE GO STEELERS, HERE WE GO!

I used your recipe and the tutorial for royal icing for my mom’s 50th birthday party and the cookies turned out amazing. They were a hit and were easy to do with your instructions.

Thanks!

Wow great job on the cookies! I had no idea they had cookie cutters for sports teams. That’s awesome. I love how you pressed “steelers” out in fondant.

Since I live in the Philippines and they don’t show much of football games, I don’t really have a team. But I love watching football once in a while. Those cookies are really cute and awesome.

We do love our football in Australia (although our season is just ending), but I have never seen anything like these moulds! A great idea as it is another opportunity to enjoy cookies!

I had no clue Pfaltzgraff had a Steelers mold. My sister and bro-in-law would be over the moon. Gotta get my hands on one of those.

Your cookies look great! For those of you that don’t have a mold or the time to decorate in such detail, check out my new business – CookieToppers.com. I have edible cookie decorations for the Steeler Fans here in Pittsburgh. They are so easy to use, just use a cookie cutter for your cookie shapes, then ice your cookie, then lay my cookie topper on to the cookie. It is so easy. I have Steeler Jersey Cookie Toppers and much more.
