Hi Julie and Andrea,

I am sorry you both were disappointed. After receiving a lot of similar feedback, I did a new version of the recipe with a couple of changes that I think really improved the recipe. Using saltines along with the chips helps to neutralize some of the grease, and grinding them together in a food processor makes them much easier to use as a coating. You can see the new recipe here:

I hope you'll give the new recipe a try and let me know what you think!

I agree, I too was very disappointed. They look/sound easy to make, but much more difficult to make a successful batch of rings. Although the chips didn't stick to the rings, we decided to bake them regardless. The overall outcome in taste was okay, but presentation was awful. The rings did not look anything like the delicious photos. There has to be a trick...any suggestions?

Hi- I tried the recipe. They were very good. They were crisp on the outside and tender inside. I had the same problems as a few others did with soggy chips. I think the crumbs were to big to stick. Next time, I will pulse the chips in the food processor and add bread crumbs. Also, the parchment paper burned at 450 degrees. I will use foil next time. Also, I only baked them for eight minutes. Four minutes on each side.

I'm glad I made a deal with myself, that if I eat healthy, I'm allowed one, let's call it "less healthy", snack a week. These onion rings are it this week, yum.

I had the same problem as Julie. After realizing the chips weren't gonna stick anymore, I dumped them and used panko breadcrumbs instead. They worked SO much better. They looked better and tasted better. Otherwise, great recipe! Thanks!

Wow were these delicious! I avoid all the mess and trouble of hauling out the deep fat fryer whenever possible and rarely do onion rings at home because of that, even though my crew loves them! These were easy and I honestly think they were better than any I have ever had before! I had some wonderful huge sweet onions to use and the crunchy crust was just terrific! and Yes ... we dipped too!

I made these last night and was really disappointed! I followed the instructions just right, and after about 5 rings, the kettle chip crumbs got so soggy they wouldn't stick to anymore rings, so I dumped them out and crushed up fresh ones, but the same thing! They wouldn't stick once they got a little wet. I shook off as much batter from each ring as I could, but it didn't help - I only ended up getting about 10 rings before I gave up. Also, I found that the time and temperature were WAY too hot and long for my oven. Also, I thought the kettle chip flavor and texture was way to overpowering for these....

Bummer! I really wanted these to be good since they weren't deep fried, but no luck for me.
