The Ultimate Peanut Butter & Chocolate Banana Split

Elvis would be so proud.
Traditional banana splits include vanilla, chocolate and strawberry ice cream and are topped with pineapple, strawberry and chocolate sauces, then garnished with crushed nuts, whipped cream and the all-important “cherry on top”. While it certainly sounds good, I have never been a fan. At all. I just never enjoyed the flavor combination. Each of the elements on their own I love, but put them together and I don’t want to go anywhere near it. My solution? A banana split, my way. And in my world, nothing goes better with a banana than peanut butter and chocolate. Well, we all know that I go gaga over any type of chocolate/peanut butter combination, and since both pair so well with bananas (and ice cream!) this is pretty much the ultimate banana split in my mind.

A few weeks ago Electrolux and Kelly Ripa invited some bloggers and their little ones to NYC to help spread the word about Ovarian Cancer Research. The kids were able to use ice cream and a seemingly endless array of toppings to create their ultimate banana split. If you visit the Kelly Confidential website, you can create a virtual version of your ultimate banana split. For each virtual banana split that is created, Electrolux will donate $1 to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund. In addition, Electrolux has also teamed up with Foodbuzz and is donating $50 to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund for every banana splits post by a Featured Publisher. This coming Monday Foodbuzz is having a “Top 9 Takeover Day” – all of the Top 9 posts for the day will be banana splits created by Featured Publishers to support the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund. While ovarian cancer has never affected anyone in my family directly, plenty of other cancers have, so I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to have a donation made and spread the word.
So, head on over and create a virtual banana split and $1 will be donated for each one. Then, rush off into the kitchen and make this amazing peanut butter and chocolate banana split!

Great link, great cause, great-looking recipe! I’m not a fan of bananas, but I find them tolerable with chocolate and love chocolate and peanut butter together. I’ll probably be trying this very soon!

This is also one of my favorite combos. Peanut butter ice cream is my favorite so I often melt peanut butter in the microwave before adding ice cream to the dish. I dn’t usually add the peanuts…I add chocolate chips for extra chocolate flavor! YUM!!!

Looks completely awesome…I’d love to dig into that right now!

We made these over the weekend, and they are yummy! We used a combo of Chocolate Fudge Chunk and Vanilla ice creams. The only problem I had was trying to get the peanut butter to melt in the microwave. Maybe I didn’t have enough patience before wanting to dig in
