Brown Eyed Baker, Through the Years...

No, I’m not going to bust out the photo albums and subject you to pictures of me as a baby. But I am going to take you for a little stroll down Brown Eyed Baker memory lane. I was inspired by Problogger’s recent 7 Links Challenge, which encouraged bloggers to create a post linking to seven different posts in their archives based on different criteria. I have modified it a bit for the likes of a food blog, and think you will enjoy it. Brown Eyed Baker has been baking up goodies for over three years now, and I hope this post helps you discover new content in a fun way that highlights different types of content. So, without further ado, here are seven posts that I think you’ll enjoy reading…

7 Brown Eyed Baker Posts for You to Enjoy

1. My very first post. Brown Eyed Baker was launched on February 11, 2007. To kick start the site, I shared a recipe for Italian Wedding Soup. It has always been one of my favorite comfort foods – something my mom would make when I was sick and something my grandma always made when out of town family would visit. I love making a huge pot in the wintertime and enjoying it for days and days.

2. Post I enjoyed writing the most. This is a tough one since I’ve written so many! After thinking about it, I would have to go with For the Love of Peanut Butter and Cinnamon. This would be the one in which I celebrate the official test results that declare me food allergy-free. After living for the previous five years allergic to some of my favorite foods, I was given a clean bill of health. I go into detail about allergies, and how I celebrated my foodie freedom with snickerdoodle cookies and Reese’s Big Cups.

3. Post with great discussion. There are two posts that have garnered a lot of comments and a lot of positive email feedback to me. The first is the tutorial I did on How to Decorate Cookies with Royal Icing, which is a step-by-step instruction on how to outline, flood and decorate sugar cookies. The second is Food Photography 101: The Basics, which outlines four sections of tips to taking improved photos of your food.

4. Favorite recipe that came from another blog. Brownie Mosaic Cheesecake. A classic from Smitten Kitchen, it combines every possible scrumptious dessert component that you can imagine. Oreo crust. Cheesecake. Brownies. Chocolate ganache. It’s amazing. Simply amazing.

5. Favorite recipe with a unique name. Russian Grandmothers’ Apple Pie-Cake. A wonderful recipe from Dorie Greenspan’s Baking: From My Home to Yours, it combines the best features of a cake and a pie and is perfect for the late summer and fall apple season.

6. Recipe I want everyone to try at least once. Bacon, Cheddar & Green Onion Scones. Tall scones full of savory deliciousness make a perfect breakfast, or serving for brunch. Another similar recipe is Quiche Lorraine Scones. Make one or both, but I guarantee you’ll fall in love! Plus, scones are super easy to make – just one bowl and short baking time.

7. Most viewed recipe ever. No-Bake Cookies is the most popular recipe on this site, pretty much by a landslide. It’s the most viewed overall, always the most popular in any given month, the most emailed recipe, and the list goes on and on. It’s pretty easy to understand why – they are quick, easy, require very few ingredients, and best of all – no oven!

I decided to include an old photo of myself for fun to go along with the “walk down memory lane” theme of this post. I chose this one mostly because I just uncovered it again a few weeks ago and it was always one of my favorites. I think I was around 8 or 9 in this picture, and as you can see, I’ve been a hockey fan for quite some time. (It was around this time that I would write the entire Penguins roster, in order, by number and name, in my school notebook, strap on my dad’s ice hockey gear, and proclaim that I would be the first girl hockey player ever. True story.) Penguins fans will likely recognize the man on the left immediately, for he is none other than Paul Coffey. I think the other guy is Steve Gottas, but my memory is shaky. Love the bangs, the glasses and the Coca-Cola sweater!

    Since I very recently discovered your site, this post is fun to get to know all there is to offer on your site. Since I don’t think of soups when I think of baking, I never would have thought to come here for a satisfying soup recipe. Once it is cold enough to think of soup again for dinner, I will enjoy that soup from your first post. I’ve seen a lot of sweet scone recipes lately, it will be great to try your savory options at my next brunch.
