The Weekend Dish: 12/18/2010

So, how did it get to be a week before Christmas already?! Is everyone ready for the holiday and have your shopping done? I have one small thing to finish up, then it will be wrapping central! And did I mention cookie baking? Lots and lots of cookie baking going on in my kitchen. Do you have any old favorites that you’ll be making this week? Any homemade gifts you’re working on? The week before Christmas has always been my favorite, as I love the anticipation and time leading up to the holiday. Do you have any holiday traditions you’re looking forward to? I hope you all have a fabulous week leading up to Christmas! Try not to get trampled by the mad holiday shoppers!

As always, you’ll find a recap of what was posted to the site this week as well as some bookmarked recipes from other blogs. Enjoy! :)

On Brown Eyed Baker This Week

5 Fabulous Foodie Gifts for Christmas 2010 – Some non-traditional gift ideas that are all on my personal wish list!

Homemade Peanut Brittle – So incredibly addicting, I can’t stop eating it! Bonus – it’s super easy to make (no candy thermometer required)!

Peanut Butter Fudge – Another easy, no candy thermometer-required recipe. Also totally addicting. I may need to hide it from myself.

Pecan Tassies – One of my most favorite Christmas cookies from when I was a kid, and a cherished family recipe.

What I Bookmarked This Week

Recipes from other blogs that I thought looked especially delicious and that I thought you would like too:

Eggnog Cheesecake Bars (Tracey’s Culinary Adventures)
Gosh I love cheesecake in every possible form and these festive bars would be fabulous for a holiday get together.

Eggnog Custard Pie (Baking Bites)
‘Tis the season! Bring on the eggnog! This looks so lovely and delicious.

Jalapeno Pepper Jack Scones (Joy the Baker)
I love scones. I love scones with cheese. And I love things with a kick. These scones are right up my alley; need to get in the kitchen and make these!

Potato Gratin with Rosemary Crust (The Bitten Word)
What a gorgeous dish! Love all the neat layers of potatoes, the crust, everything. Very impressive for a dinner party, and looks delicious enough for every day type dining!

Sticky Date Pudding and Honey Ginger Ice Cream (The Sweet Spot)
I have never made sticky pudding but this makes me realize what I may be missing. Looks fabulous and I love dates. And that ice cream? Yum!

Hope everyone has a fabulous weekend!

I’m not CLOSE to being done with my holiday shopping. I am a recovering raging procrastinator, but I like to think i just have flashes of brilliance…in due time.

I bookmarked the Eggnog Custard Pie, too. I’m planning on making it for Christmas dessert with a gingersnap crust.

I made the peanut butter fudge; oh dear me – it’s criminal. I had to package it up and ship it the same day or I would have polished off the whole pan. Mmmm, I know it will be well received by my stepfather-in-law. Thank you!

    Merry merry!!!
