The Weekend Dish: 2/5/2011

Super Bowl weekend is upon us and I hope I’ve done a good job of supplying you with tons of recipes to choose from when you make your game day menu! I am a huge sucker for dips and appetizers so I live for days like this! Especially when my hometown team is playing (GO STEELERS!) and I have a vested interest in the game. Not to mention the Pens playing the Caps earlier in the day; hopefully my heart survives Sunday! So, have you decided what you’re making for the game yet? I’d love to hear your menu! And, just as importantly, who are you rooting for??
Now as always, you’ll find a recap of what was posted to the site this week as well as some bookmarked recipes from other blogs. Enjoy! ![]()
On Brown Eyed Baker This Week
45 Super Bowl Recipes for Super Bowl XLV – A roundup of perfect game day food from the site, including appetizers, snacks, main dishes and of course sweets!
Seven Layer Dip – A fun dip with a little bit of everything – refried beans, cheese, jalapeños, avocado, tomato, sour cream and olives. Delicious!
Online Bake Sale – I participated in an online bake sale to auction off my Thick and Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies. The proceeds went to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and over $1,700 was raised!
Buffalo Chicken Dip – A party classic and certainly fitting for any game day menu.
Caramelized Onion, Mushroom & Gruyere Tartlets – A great appetizer for any occasion and puff pastry makes everything delicious, right?!
Hot Reuben Dip – Cream cheese, corned beef, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut and Thousand Island dressing baked up bubbly and served on mini rye bread. Amazing!
Sausage Dip – Only three ingredients and addicting – a perfect dip in my world!

What I Bookmarked This Week
Recipes from other blogs that I thought looked especially delicious and that I thought you would like too:
Blueberry Breakfast Cakes (How Sweet It Is)
Cake for breakfast? With blueberries? And sauce? You don’t have to ask me twice!
Caramel Crumb Bars (Tracey’s Culinary Adventures)
I love a good bar cookie and these look just delicious! Love that crumb topping!
Greek Seven Layer Dip (Closet Cooking)
This is such a great idea! A spin on the typical Mexican-inspired dip, greek-style.
Orange-Dried Cherry Cobblestones (Culinary Concoctions by Peabody)
I must be craving sweet breakfast pastries, because these also immediately caught my eye! Delicious!
Pizza Dip (My Baking Addiction)
This sounds outstanding!! If you love pizza, you need to make this for the big game!
Have a delicious weekend! And of course… GO STEELERS!!

Happy Weekend! I’m going to try your seven layer dip today

My menu so far is potato and cheese mini pierogis and city chicken. The city chicken for us is alternating cubes of pork and beef tenderloin (Mom’s was pork and veal) on a stick, dredged in flour and browned in a skillet, then a quick finish in the oven. These are great hot or at room temp. Also I am trying a new recipe called Clark bar cookies. (http://www.grouprecipes.com/50048/clark-bar-cookies.html)
We are STEELER fans!

Your dips look and sound amazing were sticking to classics though for the game. Mild Buffalo Wings, Mini Corn Dogs, Salsa and Cream Cheese dip, and Salsa Con Queso, and I bought Steelers themed Cake Pops for dessert and me and my mom are going to knock out your Nut Rolls.

Loving your blog… I just discovered it! My Super Bowl menu is: chorizo nachos (Recipe Girl) with guacamole, stuffed mushrooms, fruit pizza, football-shaped butter cookies, cheese ball w/ crackers, and some store-bought faves (Crunch ‘n Munch, gummy worms, etc.). We pretty much feast on the buffet all day long!

I’ve been following your blog for a long time now, and you’ve mentioned a few times that you love scones. How about a banana, peanut butter, chocolate chip scone? Yup, a chocolate/peanut butter combo
