Book Selection for March: Freedom

First of all, apologies for letting Unplugged slack the last month or so, but it’s back!
Back when I first put this site together I included a list of 100 books that I had on my wish list to read and was hoping to knock out about one a month. Well, it appears I need a little extra help to accomplish that. So, in an effort to do much better with the one book a month thing, I will be sharing my monthly picks with you and inviting anyone that’s interested to read along with me. Nothing terribly formal, I’ll announce the book I’m going to read on the 1st of the month and then on the last day of the month I’ll post about my thoughts on the book and throw out some questions to get a discussion going in the comments section. Feel free to join in whenever you’d like!
So, without further ado, the book selection for March:
Freedom by Jonathan Franzen
Because I’m horrible at making decisions (I could have hemmed and hawed over this pick for days), I went to Random.org and had it spit out a number between 1 and 100. It picked 28, and book #28 on my list just so happens to be Freedom. Easy peasy!
I’m off to crack open the book. Anyone plan on joining me?!

1st- Hunger Games (the triology) is not on your list. ADD IT NOW! seriously! Couldn’t put that book down!
2nd- check out paperbackswap.com if you haven’t already. nice way to exchange books you have. unless you like to own and hoard books, as i do.
happy reading

I just finished reading Freedom – it was very good! But long. And of course I kept putting it off, daunted by the size and small print, and then it was only days from being due back at the library and couldn’t be renewed. I ended up reading in all my spare time! But it was a lovely read, and so much better written than much of the other current best-selling fiction I read these days.

Great choice! My book club read/enjoyed it a few months ago; Franzen writes amazing female characters.

Count me in. I’ll download it tonight on my nook.

I finished Freedom this weekend – so glad that you recommended it. It was a great book – but definitely long! Wondering if Franzen’s other books are equally good?
