The Weekend Dish: 3/12/2011

First and foremost, don’t forget to spring ahead tonight! While the lack of sleep always vexes me when we turn the clocks ahead, I am like a little kid because the local custard stand opens in March after the clocks change. I absolutely cannot wait to get my first cone! A chocolate/vanilla twist with chocolate sprinkles, my fav :)  Not only is there ice cream on the horizon, but St. Patrick’s Day is Thursday, bonus! I have been doing a lot of recipe experimentation and trying all sorts of new (to me) things and can’t wait to share them with you this week. I have really enjoyed using regional celebrations to learn more about different food cultures this year – first Mardi Gras, and now St. Patrick’s Day.

Now as always, you’ll find a recap of what was posted to the site this week as well as some bookmarked recipes from other blogs. Enjoy! :)

On Brown Eyed Baker This Week

Traditional Mardi Gras King Cake – I rang in Fat Tuesday with my first king cake, and I loved it!

St. Patrick’s Day Recipes – A roundup of recipes from the archives that would be perfect for your St. Patrick’s Day menu.

Irish Brown Bread – I am in love with the heartiness of this bread. It blows regular soda bread out of the water!

Guinness-Milk Chocolate Ice Cream – My first new ice cream of the season and the combination of Guinness and milk chocolate is heavenly!

What I Bookmarked This Week

Recipes from other blogs that I thought looked especially delicious and that I thought you would like too:

Cashew Nut Brittle Cupcakes (Our Eyes Eat First)
I’ve just started to play around with different butters (namely, almond butter), so this recipe really intrigues me!

Chocolate Malt Pudding (Becky Bakes)
Given my recent infatuation with all things malt, you can bet I’ll be making this pudding pronto!

Green Velvet St. Patrick’s Dipped Cupcakes (Snappy Gourmet)
These are so cute, and I love that they’re dipped for such a cute tower of green!

Hazelnut, Raspberry Jam and White Chocolate Ganache Tarts (La Mia Vita Dolce)
They look as fabulous as they sound, and I can’t wait to make and taste them!

S’mores Cheesecake Bars (Tracey’s Culinary Adventures)
S’mores and cheesecake? Yes, please.

Have a delicious weekend!

Which is your favorite custard stand? I love going down to Klavon’s in the Strip for old fashioned sundaes!

Thanks Michelle :) That Guinness chocolate ice cream is awesome, I’ve made it in the past for my Guinness-loving husband. This weekend I tried the best buttermilk pancakes from CI you posted and loved them!
