The Weekend Dish: 9/3/2011

I am in total and utter disbelief that summer is unofficially (officially?) coming to a close this weekend. While fall doesn’t officially descend until late September, Labor Day weekend has long been the yard stick by which the end of summer was measured. Kids are back in school, our first cool spell has already hit, and football is just around the corner. As excited as I am for my favorite season, I still can’t believe how unbelievably fast summer has flown by. Wasn’t it a flash? Looking forward, here’s to cinnamon, pumpkin, maple, and everything in between!

As I’ve mentioned the last couple of weeks, I am a finalist for “Most Valuable Blogger in Pittsburgh” in the Lifestyle category (thank you to any who nominated me!). You can still vote once per day until September 9th. If you’d like to cast a vote, you can do so here. It’s super easy – no registration or signing up, just click the “vote” button next to Brown Eyed Baker. Thank you for your support!

As always, you’ll find a recap of what was posted to the site this week as well as some bookmarked recipes from other blogs. Enjoy!

What I Bookmarked This Week

Recipes from other blogs that I thought looked especially delicious and that I thought you would like too:

Apricot and Pistachio Frangipane Tart (What’s For Lunch Honey?)
I have been in love with the combination of apricot and pistachio since I made a similarly flavored ice cream this summer, and this tart looks magnificent!

Blueberry Mascarpone Cheesecake with Amaretti Crust (Closet Cooking)
What gorgeous little cakes! I love the balance of mascarpone, amaretti cookies and blueberries. Totally divine.

Coffee-spiked Chocolate Caramel Bars (Satisfy My Sweet Tooth)
This sort of looks like a millionaire’s shortbread, but with a kick of coffee flavor. Can’t wait to try these!

Fennel Seed and Onion Loaf (Technicolor Kitchen)
I love finding unique bread recipes, and this one sounds delicious. I can’t wait to try it!

Peaches with Ginger, Pecan and Brown Sugar Cake (Desserts for Breakfast)
A ginger-pecan cake topped with brown sugar frosting and fresh peaches. It looks like the perfect bridge between summer and fall!

Have a delicious weekend!
