Giveaway: SodaStream Home Soda Maker

This is by far one of the coolest kitchen toys I have ever played with. The notion of making homemade soda (or, POP if you’re from the Pittsburgh area) had never occurred to me until my Chief Culinary Consultant mentioned that he saw this soda maker on the Today show. He’s a big fan of seltzer water and while living in Maryland the local grocery store sold cans of seltzer water, but once back here in Pittsburgh, he couldn’t find any stores that sold it like that. When he saw this SodaStream on the Today show, he thought it would be perfect for making unlimited seltzer water at home. I decided we definitely needed to try it out, and after the first couple of batches totally fell in love with it. So much so, that I want to give one away to one of you!

Here’s what comes in the package:

The SodaStream maker, a carbon dioxide tank (which makes over 100 liters of soda), two reusable one liter bottles, and a trial variety pack of 12 different soda flavors.

Now, for the details on how it works (so cool!)…

First, you secure the carbon dioxide tank and place it inside the SodaStream machine:

Next, fill one of the disposable liter bottles to the fill line with cold water.

Screw the bottle onto the nozzle of the SodaStream machine until tight.

Next, press the large button on top numerous times (sort of like ‘pulsing’ a food processor) until you hear a loud fizzy “burp” – there will be a ton of bubbles!

That’s it if you want to make seltzer water! Done! Add a slice of lemon, pour and enjoy!

Now, if you want to make a flavored soda, there is just one extra step. First, pick out the flavor you’d like. The folks at SodaStream were nice enough to send me some full-size flavors to try, and the Diet Pink Grapefruit has been a big favorite.

The bottle will tell you how much of the flavoring to dispense, usually either a full capful or to a fill line in the cap. Get that ready…

Prepare the carbonated water just as you did before, but once you are finished, pour the flavoring into the water, slowly and at an angle:

Then gently turn the bottle back and forth to distribute the flavoring among the water.

Again, pour – look at all that fizz! I love it!
