Welcome to Day 7 of the “12 Days of Giveaways”!
Today I am featuring a gorgeous hostess tray from Wendell August Forge, which was founded in 1923 and is headquartered about an hour north of Pittsburgh. I have received a couple of their pieces as gifts in the past and recently have purchased every single ornament they have created along with the Pittsburgh Penguins over the last couple of years. They are known for their handcrafted aluminum giftware, ranging from platters to home decor pieces, ornaments, jewelry, and everything in between.
I was invited up to their factory for a tour and to get a close-up look as to how their products are made. Let me first say that every single person I met with could not possibly have been any nicer, just wonderful people. And secondly, I was utterly blown away by the amount of precision, detail and painstaking work that goes into each and every piece.
One of my first stops on the tour was the room where die cutting takes place. On the left, a gentleman was using hand-crafted tools to etch out a new design. On the right, another gentleman was using a machine that enables him to go over a sketch with his right hand, and an engraving tool copies his movements onto the metal below.

Below on the left is just one row in a room that has metal plates for every single design that has made its way into a Wendell August piece. There were rows and rows, with thousands of die plates. Truly incredible.
On the right is the picture that I most treasure from my trip to Wendell August. Although I couldn’t talk about it at the time because it hadn’t been announced yet, Wendell August partnered with the Pittsburgh Penguins to make Christmas ornaments from the roof material of the Civic Arena (which is in the process of being torn down). What you see on the right are actual sections of the Civic Arena roof that had been delivered to Wendell August for the ornaments.

I honestly can’t say enough great things about this company – from the craftsmanship that goes into their work, to the kind and generous employees that I met. I am thrilled to be giving away a gorgeous Christmas serving piece to one of you! My favorite ornament is my Christmas tree spider that my sister made.
Each year I make an ornament using circles cut out of our Christmas cards.
I love all the ornaments that my daughter has made at school, especially ones with photos. Sentimental favorites. I can’t wait until my littlest starts bringing home ornaments too. Right now she would probably just chew them though.

Well my favorites were the twelve days of Christmas, but we had a fire and I lost all of my decorations this year. I guess I will have to start looking for another favorite now.
My favorite ornament is a Faberge-inspired egg my nana gave me. It hinges open and plays music. inside, she placed a little handwritten note that says, “I’ll always love you.” I treasure it!
My favorite Christmas ornament is a glitter star that my mother made when she was 12 in an arts and crafts project. We still put it on top of the Christmas tree!:D
My favorite ornament is of a small painted rabbit – a gift from my husband when we were newly married. It is something I lovingly put on the tree each year, and I remember those happy, sweet days of early married life, and I am so grateful that all these years later, he is still that same person.

My favorite Christmas ornament, isn’t really an ornament per se, but the Angel on the top of my tree. My mom gave it to me as a housewarming present for our first Christmas in our new home several years ago.

A skinny Santa that my mother used to hang on her tree when she was a little girl. When I was ready to venture out on my own Mom told me to pick one ornament from home to hang on my own tree. That is what I chose and it is a treasure to me.

I get a new Crayola-themed ornament every year, and I love them! So cheerful and colorful! My husband gave me a Precious Moments ornament for our first Christmas together last year, though, and I think it’s become one of my favorites.
Every year my grandma gives me an ornament from her travels. This year, my boyfriend and I put up our own tree, and the one she gave me this year (a little rolling pin…how fitting) is the only personal one we have on it, so it’s my favorite.
