The Weekend Dish 9/15/2012

Happy weekend, everyone! I hope you’ve had a fabulous week and are ready to take full advantage of the weekend. I’m still kicking around down in Florida; we have a little less than a week left here before we head back on the road and start making our way to DC. In the meantime, we’re going to make the most of some great eats, gorgeous weather and good shopping. What do you have planned for the weekend? Trying any new recipes?!

As always, you’ll find a recap of what was posted to the site this week as well as some bookmarked recipes from other blogs. Enjoy!

On Brown Eyed Baker This Week

12 Favorite Apple Recipes – It’s National Apple Month, so I rounded up my 12 favorite apple recipes. What’s your favorite??

Potato Skins – One of my favorite appetizers and a perfect for a game day spread.

Baklava – One of the most phenomneal pastries – layers of ground, spiced walnuts and buttered phyllo dough are drenched in a sweet honey syrup.

Oatmeal-Raisin Ice Cream – Brown sugar-cinnamon ice cream is loaded with pralined oats and whiskey-soaked raisins.

Friday Stuff n’ Things: Florida, Part II – Lots of fun random tidbits from my week in Florida!

What I Bookmarked This Week

Recipes and posts from other blogs that I thought looked especially delicious and that I thought you would like, too:

Apple Cinnamon Rolls with Jack Daniels-Cream Cheese Icing (Confections of a Foodie Bride)
Oh my. These put Cinnabon to shame. I’d love to eat the entire pan!

Peanut Butter Cup Popcorn (Cookies & Cups)
When I discovered chocolate-covered popcorn I was in awe. This takes it one massive step further… love it!

Pumpkin Granola Bars (My Baking Addiction)
I tried my hand at pumpkin granola bars a couple of years ago, but I’d love to try some different varieties. These look fantastic, with the seeds and dried cranberries.

Salted Caramel Apple Crumb Bars (Two Peas and Their Pod)
I’m speechless. These have to be some of the best apple bars on the planet.

Soba Noodles with Sweet Ginger Scallion Sauce (Simply Reem)
I fell in love with soba noodles last year, and love the sound of this sauce. A perfect weeknight dinner option!

What was the best thing you ate this week??

Have a delicious weekend!

Hope you have a good weekend. I’m going to see the Broadway tour of Billy Elliot today. So hopefully that will be great.

Hubby ran a 10k in Dayton Ohio today, Saturday, I went along as cheerleader.

Homemade applesauce using maple syrup as a sweetener instead of sugar is my
new recipe for tomorrow to try. I love the fact that the apple trees and syrup from the maple trees are both from the same town.
