The Weekend Dish 10/27/2012

Happy weekend, everyone! Can you believe that we might actually get some Halloween snow in some areas of the country?! If you’re in the path of this massive Frankenstorm, I hope you stay safe and out of harm’s way. Do you have any favorite recipes that you like to bake up when you’re stuck inside due to rain or snow? I always start to crave beef stew, chili and warm, fresh rolls. I have a feeling those are going to be showing up sooner rather than later around here!

As always, you’ll find a recap of what was posted to the site this week as well as some bookmarked recipes from other blogs. Enjoy!

On Brown Eyed Baker This Week

15 Recipes for Halloween Candy – If you find yourself overrun with Halloween candy, use some up by making one (or all) of these recipes, all of which use candy as an ingredient!

Maple Pumpkin Cheesecake Bars – A gingersnap crust with a maple and pumpkin-infused cheesecake filling. A combination of fall’s finest flavors.

What I Bookmarked This Week

Recipes and posts from other blogs that I thought looked especially delicious and that I thought you would like too:

Cake Batter Milkshake (The Novice Chef)
Another great reason to have a stash of homemade yellow cake mix in your pantry!

Honey Beer Bread (gimme some oven)
I love beer bread, but have never seen it made with honey. It sounds (and looks) amazing!

Italian Cream Cake (The Galley Gourmet)
I’ve had this cake a number of times, but have always been at least a little disappointed – it always seems bland. I’ve wanted to make a homemade version for ages, and this looks like a fabulous recipe.

Jennifer’s No-Fail Cakewalk Cake (Ezra Pound Cake)
I truly have no idea what a cakewalk is, but if it involves eating a super-sized piece of this cake at the end of walking some distance, I’d be happy to oblige!

Mini Black-Bottom Cupcakes (lovelyish)
One of my favorite Christmas cookies from childhood are mini cheesecake cookies, and these mini black-bottom cupcakes look like such an awesome adaptation. I can’t wait to try them!

What was the best thing you ate this week??

Have a delicious weekend!

I made the Honey Beer Bread last week and it was very good. Also, if you truly do not know what a cakewalk is, it is like musical chairs where you walk around and when they stop the music, if you are on the number that they call, you get to go to the “cake” table and pick whatever you want. They have these at school carnivals. I can’t wait to try the Cannoli Dessert Pizza.

You don’t know what a cakewalk is? You’re missing out! Get thee to a preschool carnival or a church festival. Earn yourself a plate of cupcakes!

I haven’t participated in a cakewalk since elementary school, but basically it consisted of numbers on the floor in a circle. The kids walked around while music played, and when it stopped they called out a number. If you were on the number, well, you guessed it, you won something. I don’t recall ever winning a whole cake, though, but usually a cupcake.

I had a spoonful of homemade pumpkin pie ice cream. Now that I think of it, I should probably eat it out of a regular bowl now…
