Friday Things
1. I took the photo above last Friday afternoon during what I suspected would be the last trail walk of the season for my Chief Culinary Consultant and me (I think I was right). The leaves were so vibrant, but unfortunately, most of them lay on the ground. Goodbye, fall! I’m sad to see you go, but I’m looking forward to the holidays – it makes the cold, wet weather worth it!
2. I’m pretty sure my dog dreams that he’s Superman while he’s sleeping. I have no other explanation for this:
3. Current pet peeve: Use of the word “totes” in place of “totally”. It burns my ears when I hear it and my eyes when I read it. I must be getting old, because I’m totally over all of this abbreviated slang talk being used since text messaging and social media took over the universe. I’m yearning for some proper English.
4. Although I’ve never succeeded at a daily photo challenge before, I’ve decided to throw my hat into the ring again this month. Hopefully it will get me ready for some good holiday picture-taking. Check out the November Photo-a-Day Challenge from fat mum slim for all of the details! Below are the prompts for November:
You can check out my daily photos on Instagram and Twitter – look for the ones posted with the hashtag #FMSphotoaday. I’ll be posting a roundup of all of my November photos here in a blog post after the month is complete.
5. Last year, my Chief Culinary Consultant started watching Homeland before moving back to Pittsburgh. After months of telling me I needed to start watching it and getting caught up on the first season (it just started season two), I finally sat down to watch the first episode a few days ago. I was hooked less than 10 minutes into the episode, and could have easily spent the next 6 hours watching the show. The next day, I watched three more episodes. I can’t wait to finish season one and get up to speed on season two! If you have Showtime and haven’t seen it yet, you HAVE to watch it! I was totally missing out!
6. We caught the last half of “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” on Wednesday night. Charlie Brown always gets me in the mood for the holidays, and now I can’t wait for this:
7. Speaking of Halloween, I didn’t buy any Halloween candy this year (no trick or treaters at my house, which is on a main road). I feel like I’ve deprived myself, and now I’m craving Snickers and Reese’s peanut butter cups. I feel a candy binge coming on!
8. Because I can’t wrap my head around how anyone could not love bacon…
9. I’m pretty sure that in four years when the next presidential election rolls around, I’m going to ban myself from Facebook. If I don’t remember, please remind me.
10. TGIF! Hug a friend this weekend!
I *totally* here you on #3, haha. And I love that bacon flowchart. ;-)
OMg… these pictures are absolutely amazing! I love the polar bear with the dog! So cute!
I am a long time blog follower with many recipes tried and loved, but this is my first time commenting. I just had to tell you that my 5 year old Golden Retriever, Cooper, does the exact (like literally exact) same pose while sleeping against our kitchen cabinets. Love everything here on your blog, Michelle!
Your dog is hilarious! Love it!
I watched Charlie Brown on Halloween too…I loved this quote from Linus that I’ve never really thought about before: “There are three things I’ve learned never to discuss with people: religion, politics, and the Great Pumpkin.” (Speaking of banning yourself from Facebook around election time, lol, what a timely quote!)
YES I can not wait until tomorrow is over! My FB will then only be littered with the 10000 “I’m Thankful for” posts. By the way I love that first photos of Fall!
Your election cookies are BEE -UUU- TEE-FUL!!! What a great job!!…and am sure they taste just as good as they look!!! You talented lady!!!!!
Abbreviations and grammatical errors drive me insane to the point where I can’t focus if someone uses them and I can’t make a comment due to politeness. Homeland just keeps getting better. Season 2 is so much better than 1. I love Charlie Brown too, but the Christmas one always makes me cry.
Michelle, what a wonderful post. Your words really resonated with me. I will smile all day thinking of your adorable dog as Superman, I am now ready to slow down and embrace the holidays, and I also posted the bacon diagram on Facebook for a restaurant I promote in Wisconsin and it had the most likes I have ever gotten…too funny! Thanks for making Saturday’s something great!
I love your autumn pic. Can I save it?
Yes, you may!
Thanks!
Oh my goodness! That’s exactly how my dog likes to sleep!! He sleeps up against the bottom step, or the wall in the hallway…just like superdog…very funny!
I love your dog!! My mom had a GR who was the best dog, ever. Sadly, he died a few years ago, but we still talk about him and share our memories all the time. If I ever get out of my apartment, I would love to share my home with one…. “Homeland” is an awesome show! The only bad thing about shows on HBO/Showtime, is that there are usually only about 12 episodes a season and then you have to wait soooo long for it to start again! I can’t wait for “Newsroom” to start back up again next summer… I was going to do the photo-a-day challenge, but I forgot to do it yesterday, the first day, of course. Any rule against starting on day 2?? ;) (Such a rebel, I am!)
That photo of the polar bear and dog is so amazingly adorable. It cheered my day up! Thanks.
You’re absolutely right…a vote is supposed to be silent and private, not blabbing to all. I’m a little older than you, Michelle, and have not jumped on the facebook, twitter and whatever else bandwagon because I can’t be bothered with wasting time, and really can’t care less what people are doing every minute of their day! My day is too busy and most of the time, I’m pysically and mentally too exhausted to even get through my own day. BTW, my two cats sleep the same way Einstein is sleeping…all contorted, but I guess they’re comfortable.
I love animals and your dog is adorable. Love the polar bear and dog picture too.
How about Twitter? People that constantly tweet that their favorite candidate is the only one that tells the truth and anyone that disagrees must be an idiot. I stopped following a few already.
I love bacon too. I work with someone who hates and can’t even stand the smell of it. To me the bacon smells like heaven.
TOTALLY agree about Facebook and the election. In the future I will also stop watching TV “live” and DVR everything so I can fast forward through all of the political commercials.
My dvr has been working overtime lately. Because I live near the MO/KS state line, we get ads from both states. I’ve already voted & am SO over this campaign.
Love the polar bear & dog pix. I sent it to friends & family with the following. Anyone here want to join in?
*********************************************
I think this picture is so funny & immediately wondered what they both
were thinking. Please share your thoughts. Mine were –
Bear – “This little fella is skinny but should make a good dinner.”
Dog – “I”m so scared that I just wet myself. Maybe if I stay very
quiet he’ll forget I’m here.”
Oh, how fun!! Let me know what folks come up with!
One of my co-workers wrote this caption:
I don’t care what my mother says I’m in love!
I 100% agree with you on banning Facebook next presidential election. Being in a swing state makes it even worse (I live in Ohio)!! You have me interested in Homeland now, I will have to check it out!!
Definitely check it out! Let me know what you think!
Ohmigosh, I sooooo agree with you about Facebook! I just want to unfriend those who won’t stop “sharing” their thoughts on the candidates! Absolutely cannot wait until its over.
Sorry, not so sure I like bacon as much as you ;).
I’ve hidden a lot of people from my newsfeed. I almost unfriended, but then realized I could just hide them ;-)
Love the picture of the polar bear hug. And, yes, your dog probably does dream of being … not SuperMAN, but SuperDOG.
oh my goodness, i LOVE that bacon flow chart! so funny!
have a wonderful weekend! xx
