The Weekend Dish: 1/26/2013

Welcome to the weekend! I can’t believe how quickly the weeks have been flying by since the holidays, crazy! I had a full week of taxes (ugh), a broken furnace, a field trip to the DeLallo headquarters and test kitchen (more on that tomorrow), the Penguins’ home opener, morning hockey practice, multiple games of dominoes and lots of snow to cap off the week. It was a busy week, to say the least! I hope you had a great week and have an even better weekend in store for yourself!

As always, you’ll find a recap of what was posted to the site this week as well as some bookmarked recipes from other blogs. Enjoy!

On Brown Eyed Baker This Week

Pink Grapefruit Sandwich Cookies – Such a bright and vibrant cookie to enjoy during the winter citrus fruit season.

Peanut Butter-Banana Bread with Chocolate Chips – I was craving banana bread and at the last minute threw in peanut butter and chocolate chips. Very good decision.

Oreo Cheesecake Bars – Oreo cheesecake has been one of my favorite cheesecakes for a long time, so I can’t believe it took me so long to make it into bars!

What I Bookmarked This Week

Recipes and posts from other blogs that I thought looked especially delicious and that I thought you would like, too:

Bang Bang Shrimp (Fake Ginger)
I had the Bang Bang Shrimp at Bonefish Grill once and it was fabulous! I can’t wait to try this homemade version.

Chocolate-Covered Beer Marshmallows (Beth Michelle)
These marshmallows are absolutely genius – I’m sure the combination of Guinness and chocolate, along with a fluffy marshmallow, is irresistible!

Creamy Polenta with Roasted Mushrooms (Two Peas and Their Pod)
My grandma used to always make polenta, but she often served it with red sauce; I love this version with roasted mushrooms and Parmesan cheese.

Peanut Butter & Marshmallow Sandwich Cookies (Bakers Royale)
These cookies are the thing of dreams. My dreams, anyway. I plan on making them a reality. Immediately.

Salted Caramel Date Loaf (Not Without Salt)
This bread looks AMAZING. It’s like poke cake, but with bread. And salted caramel. And dates. I’ve died and gone to heaven.

What was the best thing you ate this week??

Have a delicious weekend!

One of my favorite things about the weekend dish is seeing what you’ve bookmarked! I have made beer marshmallows before and they are soooo good!…for me, they taste like college, lol. I hope you you enjoy them as much as me and my friends did!

My Dad has spent some time trying to perfect sourdough bread (and sourdough pancakes). He has been to a King Arthur class on making sourdough. He says you can buy a starter, or you can make your own. He believes making your own produces a stronger sour flavor over time. You may already know, but to my surprise, sourdough doesn’t require adding yeast because yeast is created from the air. According to my Dad if you were to buy a starter from King Arthur or San Francisco within a month the flavor will have changed to correspond to wherever you are. Of course by asking him about sourdough I have now inherited some of his 3-year-old starter and a couple of books on sourdough!
