The Weekend Dish: 2/23/2013

Happy Saturday! I can’t believe this is the last weekend of February; this time next week we’ll already be wading into March! Where have the last couple of months gone?! I hope you have something fun and/or relaxing up your sleeve for the weekend! Later this afternoon my grandparents are having an “indoor picnic party” to beat the winter blues – they’re serving traditional picnic foods and setting up tables for cards, dominoes and other games. Food and games – my kind of party!
As always, you’ll find a recap of what was posted to the site this week as well as some bookmarked recipes from other blogs. Enjoy!

Jewish Rye Bread – After years of trying, I finally conquered rye bread in my kitchen. This bread has a perfect flavor and texture.
DIY: Homemade Nutella – Oh yes, homemade Nutella. It’s full of robust, nutty flavor with a smooth, spreadable texture.

What I Bookmarked This Week
Recipes and posts from other blogs that I thought looked especially delicious and that I thought you would like, too:
Caramel Snickers 7 Layer Bars (Sally’s Baking Addiction)
I love seven layer bars, and I have to believe they can only be made better by adding Snickers, peanuts and caramel!
Cheddar Cheese Bread (Shutterbean)
I adore quick breads, and love this super cheesy version. Quick and delicious!
Grandma’s Snickerdoodles (Foodie with Family)
While I have a snickerdoodle recipe I’ve been using for years, I’ll never pass up trying a grandma recipe. Everyone knows that grandma recipes are the best!
Homemade Ranch Seasoning Mix (Gimme Some Oven)
I am thoroughly enjoying the trend of making pantry staples at home. Ranch mix isn’t one I had thought of before, but definitely one that was used a lot at my house growing up. I can’t wait to mix this up!
Salted Caramel Bundt Cake (Tracey’s Culinary Adventures)
A super moist Bundt cake full of salted caramel flavor? I can only imagine how amazing that is, and I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t share.
What was the best thing you ate this week??
Have a delicious weekend!

Hi Michelle, I am really enjoying your DIY posts too. A few weeks ago I blogged Homemade Old Bay seasoning. I did a side by side comparison with commercial Old Bay and there is no comparison. Homemade wins by a long shot! Here’s the link if you are interested: http://www.texannewyorker.com/2013/01/16/homemade-old-bay-seasoning/
I’m excited to try your homemade Nutella and homemade American cheese! Thanks for posting!

Best thing I ate this week? Oh good gravy, girlfriend…. did you see my post on Peanut Butter Brownies with Whipped Ganache frosting? Brian was out of town on business all week and I should NEVER have been left alone in the house with those things. DANGEROUSLY good!

Wow! An indoor picnic sounds Awesome. I was just thinking this afternoon how nice it would be to use the grill to make burgers. The best thing I ate this week was southwestern chicken stew with black beans. Yummy. Have a great weekend.
