Friday Things
1. Einstein is such a serious upside-down sleeper. That’s when he sleeps hard. I love when his jowls fall down and all his teeth hang out. So funny. I had never seen a dog sleep like this until I got him, and seven years later, it still makes me laugh when I see him spread eagle, front paws tucked in, and “smiling”. Ahh, the life of a dog!
2. We had so much fun at the beach last year for our wedding, that we went ahead and rented the same house for a week. T-minus 50 days until I can dip my toes into the ocean, yesssss!
3. Have you seen this list that Amazon released? 100 Books to Read in a Lifetime – a bucket list of books that spans a wide variety of genres. I looked through it and have only read 13 of the books; it looks like I have a to-read list to consult for quite some time!
4. I don’t know about you, but anytime we have people over, especially for a party or a holiday, I struggle with how many beverages to buy and how many appetizers to serve. How many bottles of wine, how many different six packs of beer, how much pop, how much ice, etc. It’s always a guessing game, and um, we still have tons of beer leftover from our wedding party in September. I found this party buying guide on Sugar and Charm, and oh my, it’s a godsend. I’m totally referring to this from now on, although I will say I think the recommendations for beer are a little low for the 12 and 24 guest count (I would lean more towards 3 per guest vs 2 per guest if you know there will be beer drinkers in attendance):
5. Since we changed the clocks on Sunday, everyone in our house has had trouble getting up in the morning, include Einstein and Duke. We’ve been a bunch of sleepyheads! I hope we all start to get acclimated soon; I’ve never had an issue with the time change like this before, yikes.
6. Lindsay’s husband baked the six-layer chocolate cake with toasted marshmallow filling and malted chocolate frosting for her birthday. I’m seriously impressed! He ROCKED that cake – check it over on Love and Olive Oil.
7. I saw this covered cake plate on Bakerella a few days ago and, oh my, I want it! It’s pricey and not terribly practical, but so fun!
[to buy: Tinsel and Twirl]
8. After binging on House of Cards, I was without a good show to watch for a little bit. Luckily, The Americans started back up and I’ve gotten sucked right back in. I also need to start True Detective; my Chief Culinary Consultant has been watching episodes while on the treadmill, but I haven’t started it yet! We also started watching The Pacific, since we watched Band of Brothers before the holidays. What shows are you loving right now?
9. Important question: How do you organize/store your makeup? I was using this makeup organizer from The Container Store for awhile, but it was nowhere near enough space. I then moved on to stacking plastic drawers from Target, which I’m using now. They’re fine, but the makeup slides around in there and it’s hard to see everything. If you have a solution you love, please share!!
10. TGIF! Enjoying snuggle time with my boys, who look like siamese twins in this photo!
I use a tray that is meant for kitchen flatware for my make-up. It has more space than you’d imagine.
Einstein is so cute! My dog sleeps that way too, but he’s a lap dog, so there is usually a person underneath him.
I keep all my makeup in two shallow drawers in my vanity, and I use those ‘clickable’ white office supply holders to store everything. Sort of like this, but in white:
http://www.target.com/p/5-pc-metal-mesh-drawer-organizer-set-silver/-/A-13429669#prodSlot=medium_1_4
It makes everything so easy to see and reach.
My golden sleeps the same way! The only dog I’ve ever had that does that!
I’ve read 33 on the list of Amazon’s books, but I don’t know, I kind of find any list suspect that uses the entire Hunger Games trilogy to take up three whole entries out of 100. I’ve read the first two and I’m not saying they were terrible or anything, but I’ve read tons of books that were nowhere near that list that were way better than either of the ones I’ve read!
For makeup storage you MUST check out the magnetic makeup boards on Pintrest. I’m not crazy on Pintrest but this one is a DIY must do – I’ll be making mine soon. Totally creative and eliminates all those containers under your sink.
OMG~Love your dogs.
lucky me, my husband got me that very same cake plate for christmas! i LOVE it! it sits on my kitchen counter and everyone always admires it. :-)
I saw that covered cake plate on bakerella the other day as well and oh my gosh I fell in love haha, definitely pricey but for sure going on my ‘wants’ list.
My dog Sophie has been sleeping on her back since we brought her home 8 yrs ago. When we first saw her do this, I remembered the line from the movie League of Their Own……”a lady reveals nothing”. But she’s a tom boy anyway. Sophie’s a little white dog who likes rolling in the dirt.
The cake plate is available from the company that actually makes it:

It’s definitely pricey, though – $148!
Oh how I loooove your dogs. They look so happy, healthy, contented and loved. Being in Australia, our TV shows may not get to your shores, but we love RAKE, which I believe is being reshot in the US starring Greg Kinear ( hope that’s how you spell his name). Also have been watching American Idol, but we are totally disappointed with this year’s presentation. It seems to be more about the judges and appears pretty low key than previous years.
Wow, how does anyone manage to get through high school reading only 13 of those books? I’ve read over 50 of them (I’m not even 40 yet) and of those, 16 of them were in high school. Most of the 50 were before I turned 30. But I certainly wouldn’t say The Hunger Games or Harry Potter should be on that list. Yah, I read them. Entertaining – yes. Bucket list? No.
I just finished binge watching 3 seasons of Veronica Mars (MANY episodes!) and I’m going through withdrawals. I’m amazed that the show was canceled after just 3 seasons because it was SO well done. Thankfully the movie came out yesterday, in theaters AND online, so at least I get some closure. My husband and I also currently power watching the French show, The Returned, which is also REALLY good. You’ll be addicted after the first episode!
QVCs Laurie Greener has an amazing makeup organizer. Check it out
The cake plate is SOLD OUT! Sob……
I love Fridays because I get to see the guys! Love the photo of Einstein sleeping on his back! So cute! Give them a rub from me!
I just hopped over to Tinsel and Twirl to see how pricey the cake plate was and it’s sold out!! Did you do that? LOL. You are so right, the doggies do look like siamese twins in that pic. :)
You did it again, Michelle – brightening my Friday with priceless pet pics!
A friend gave me a copy of “Maggie’s Way” by Bill Stanton – a pictoral *autobiography* narrated by the family dog.
I highly recommend it to any animal lover!
Happy weekend :)
Happy Friday Michelle! Those little guys are such cuties, the pictures make me happy just looking at them. I am terrible when it comes to my makeup. I have like 3 drawers I throw everything into but use my makeup bag for the stuff I am currently using. I guess I need to get organized too. I thought I was the only one who is still not used to the new time change! I don’t know why but my body is refusing to adjust. Normally I get into the swing of things a day or so later, but not this year! I am so glad to hear I am not the only one!!
My inside dog sleeps like that pretty often and it always makes me laugh. They are like little humans.
A beach trip sounds amazing. I am really over winter and can’t wait for spring and summer.
I keep telling myself I’m going to start reading books from one of those lists. There’s just not enough time with new stuff coming out too!
I have a tall organizer thing that sits on my bedroom floor. It has 9 drawers, I think, and I use the little plastic baskets to put smaller things in. I bought it at walmart. I should blog my set up some time soon.
My dog Alice is a jack Russell/Corgi mix. She has a bald belly, so in the summer when it’s hot she sleeps belly up, in the winter she never does, she’s tucked and fluffed like a chicken roosting. Love Einstein and Duke pics!! Happy Friday!
Love the pic of Einstein — my golden does the same thing. If we come home late, he’s sound asleep on the couch, upside down with a big smile — cracks me up every time! Usually he wakes up before I can get a picture.
These are by far the best make-up containers ever! I’ve been using them for years, and I just keep adding more. Hope you love them as much as I do :)

My youngest cat totally sleeps like Einstein. Of course he likes to do so right in the middle of the hallway in between the doorway of the kitchen and living room, you know, where he is MOST in the way.
As for makeup, I have an old travel case with four clear individual pockets. The case is supposed to roll up, but I have hung it on my wall and it is the best thing I ever did for my makeup. Being able to see everything on eye level is amazing, BUT it’s not enough. I want it to be prettier, so I plan on converting it to a magnetic makeup board. Just do a goggle image search of that phrase and you’ll find tons of great ideas. You can even use baking sheets!
I can’t wait til Fridays to see the new pictures of the boys and read what you have to say for the week. I’ve saved pictures of them when Duke arrived simply because they remind me of when my son got his pup Jake ten years ago. Fond memories and happy times.
Keep the wonderful work going. This weeks was especially packed with extra goodies. Hopping on over to check out the other blog links now.
Thanks for the weekly smiles.
Lol – they DO look like Siamese twins! Our dog does the same thing! Have a great weekend!
My Sheltie used to sleep upside down like that! He looked funny and cute all at the same time. No help from me with make up storage. I dump all of mine in a train case and root through it every morning. I’m too lazy to look into a better/neater/more convenient option! And DST? It’s turned my kids into zombies. I’m really hoping the weekend gets them back on track because I don’t want to be doing this again next week!
I bet you can’t wait to get back to the beach! How fun! We have been waking up later this week. Love your dogs! xo
Happy Pi Day! I came looking for a pie recipe to celebrate (I think it’s going to be the French silk. I did the book challenge that Anna posted above (http://www.listchallenges.com/kaunismina-bbc-6-books-challenge?ref=share) and have read 29. I did a little better on the Amazon list, 30, but that’s because I have children and have read “The Hungry Caterpillar” to them a thousand times.
I like the party buying guide, but what I have trouble with is – should I buy white or red wine? How much of each? I drink white, but I know some like red. Should I offer hard liquor, and if so, what? If I bought everything above for a part of 6, it would be a small fortune. I usually do a non alcoholic punch, wine (mostly white), and some beer (again, what types to have? Regular? Light? What brand? Flavored? I usually just buy what I like, but I don’t think my beer drinkers are fans :-)
I guess I don’t have enough make up to organize, mostly about 10 different colors of lipstick – I keep most of it in a makeup bag I got free from Clinique.
I hate the time change – my body never fully adjusts, and since I get up at 5 AM to work out, it was especially rebellious this week. It’s especially hard for a night owl such as myself.
OMGoodness! Duke has gotten so big!!!!
Try this book challenge…http://www.listchallenges.com/kaunismina-bbc-6-books-challenge?ref=share
Hahaha…our Golden slept the EXACT same way…so funny :-)
Love the upside-down sleeping dog…too cute! He looks like a very happy guy. I keep meaning to watch House of Cards but haven’t yet found the time. I’m invested in too many shows already, LOL! My faves to binge watch are Game of Thrones, Sons of Anarchy, and Vikings.
Happy weekend to you!
I know what you mean about day lights saving time! I’ve never had this much trouble adjusting! I feel soo…tired in the morning and wide awake at night. Hope it’s better next week!
What a sweet puppy face….:) I had a hard time reading past the photo.. Couldn’t take my eyes off of Einstein.
I have little dogs (Yorkies) and they always seem to end up sleeping on their backs. But I end up waking them up because the tummy kiss temptation is just too much to resist!
I don’t have enough makeup to need anything other than the individual drawer trays you can find by the silverware sorters in BBB. There is an item on QVC by Lori Greiner that might work. It’s called the Tabletop Spinning Cosmetic Organizer. You might want to check that out.
I love seeing pictures of Einstein and Duke, my dog sleeps the same way :-) And that cake plate is adorable!
My solution for makeup storage is ridiculously simple. When I tell people about it they laugh. But then I show it to them and they think I’m a genius. I bought a tackle box (fishing) and it works perfectly for me. It’s neatly organized with all of the trays/compartments and there’s room in the bottom for bigger tubes. They come in many sizes and the whole thing fits nicely under the sink.
That’s so smart! Sort of like an old-school Caboodle – did you ever have those back in the day?!
“Back in the day”? I still use a Caboodle!
I still use a Caboodle, too! It’s a metal one, not the old school colored plastic. That and a small three-drawer container keeps all my stuff organized and holds quite a bit.
I think I implemented the tackle box before
Caboodles were even a thing. My husband loves that I keep
it all tucked away and off of the counter top.
We have the SAME taste in TV for sure. I finished House of Cards after binge watching and now I am looking to start True Detective – oh and I slipped in a season of “Girls” in between – so funny!
The Macadame. xx

Our dog does the sleeping upside down thing too, on the couch with his head on the armrest. He looks so funny!
I checked out Amazon’s list and I’ve read 66 titles, but there are still plenty left. I think I’m the only person who hasn’t read “Girl With the Dragon Tatto”.
I haven’t read it either :)
how SWEET! you and your doggies make a good match
Actually I store my makeup in a regular “cloth makeup bag” there’s no need for sorting, I just keep all the makeup in one bag
hope that helps :)
hi
Holly my nine year old lab sleeps on her back, but her legs are usually straight up in the air, I love it too! she’s like an old drunk with her gums exposed and you are right it is when she gets into a deep sleep.
I enjoy your doggy photos and your recipes.
Retrievers are the best dogs.
thank you
Rozlyn
Australia
My dog does the upside down – teeth smile sleep as well! It is one of my favorite things ever!! Thanks for the cute dog pictures.
