Friday Things
1. Happy 4th of July! I hope you have a festive, fun day full of good food! Are you going to light fireworks? Make s’mores?
2. Today I have two slow cookers going – one full of our favorite beer and brown sugar kielbasa & sauerkraut, and another with macaroni and cheese. The slow cooker mac and cheese is a new one for me, crossing my fingers! What are you eating today?
3. My favorite pair of sunglasses are three years old and they are starting to get that bowed, fall off my head wear to them. Super sad face.
4. If you’re in the path of Hurricane Arthur, please stay safe!
5. I was watching a news show the other day where the hosts were discussing the first albums they ever bought. I grew up in the land of cassette tapes, but couldn’t remember the first one that I bought. I do, however, remember that my first CD was an Aerosmith greatest hits album (Big Ones). My Chief Culinary Consultant said that his first cassette was also an Aerosmith greatest hits (1973-1988). We’re obviously a match made in classic rock heaven. Do you remember the first one you bought?
6. My husband took this picture of me last week and laughed at the trifecta of Pittsburgh sports items around me…
I was wearing a Pirates t-shirt, sitting under a Steelers blanket, and had a Penguins Tervis next to me. What can I say?! Tomboy at heart :)
7. After seeing so many people talk about them on Twitter and Instagram, I’m thinking of breaking down and buying a pair of Tieks. A super comfortable pair of flats that I can walk in all day is one thing missing from my wardrobe. Now I just have to decide which color to get!
8. I am halfway through Season 3 of Scandal and… OMG. I need so many answers! I want so many things to happen! Agh!
9. If you read this blog through a feed reader like Feedly or through an email subscription, you may have noticed that recently the posts have been truncated and you are prompted to click through to read the rest. I’ve received a few complaints about it, and wanted to let you know the reasoning behind it. There are certain websites that will “steal” another site’s RSS feed and republish the content on their site, which is loaded with ads. It’s content theft, and if the entire content of a post is included in the feed, that means it is able to be lifted and republished. By truncating the feed, I am not allowing all of my content to be mined and republished elsewhere. I do apologize for any inconvenience that the new setup causes you, and hope that you understand.
10. TGIF! I hope you have an awesome (and safe) holiday weekend! Einstein is ready to paaaaaartay!
My regular glasses and sunglasses are three years old and I desperately need to go to the doctor and get new pairs. My glasses broke yesterday but my dad took them to get fixed. It’s a warning that I need to get a new pair asap!
My first CD was Celine Dion. I was an 8 or 9 year old old soul :)
Funny, I don’t recall my first cassette or cd I bought, I do remember my first album it was the jackson 5’s danceing machine when i was 10 years old.
Michelle, Please go on Google to read some reviews on Tieks. Some of the reviews had pictures that people were showing of their shoes falling apart in less than 6 months time. One lady says 2 different pairs of hers were coming apart. I always like to research before buying something new, especially when the item is expensive.
In case no one else mentioned it, you can take your sunglasses in to have them tightened back up. Living on the surface of the sun, oh, I mean Dallas, I have to do this a couple times each summer as they stretch from the heat. My local JCPenney optical does it for me, but another place may do it, too. I’m sure there are some places that won’t if you didn’t buy the glasses there.
Tieks are on my radar too so if you do purchase, I really hope you do a review on them. I want them for my Disney trip coming up but can’t drop $185 on shoes unless they feel like I’m walking on a cloud! I’d get metallic, FYI. =)
PS-sent your red velvet ice cream recipe to a friend for his 4th bash and it was AMAZING!
Im so jelly of people, being able to buy flats that are about $200 out of my price range. I work hard too dangnabit! Student loans…
I remember my first album like it was yesterday. At the age of 13 in 1969 I was with my father and he told me to pick out something. He’d never really done this before, or since for that matter. Iron Butterfly’s ‘In A Gadda Da Vida’ was the most popular song at that time. Thanks for taking me back to that warm and loving place.
First album I won from a radio station in 1966…I was 13. It was by an American-Canadian band called Buffalo Springfield. I think the first one I bought was either Tapestry by Carole King or Sweet Baby James by James Taylor. OMG that takes me back a long, long way.
I don’t remember the first album I bought, but when I was 10 my dad got us a tape player and three tapes – AC/DCs “Back in Black,” Meatloaf’s “Bat Out of Hell,” and Rolling Stones “Emotional Rescue.” Dad was pretty rad.
CD’s? You’re such a babe. I still have my Beatles “I Want To Hold Your Hand” & other 45’s. Do you know what those are? Hard black plastic disks with a big hole in the center? “-) I’ve kept my 1971 Sony turntable running so I can play these classics. Have a great 4th. I want to hear all about that mac & cheese.
I was just checking out the keibalsa recipe you mention and it looks amazing! I think I might make it tomorrow. As I was reading that post I had to laugh when you mentioned your dogs like bread. My mom’s last dog ( who she lost last month to leukemia) was a German Shepherd that LOVED bread. She had to buy a loaf a week because he got a piece or two a day. He was also know to steal loaves of bread off the counter and eat the whole thing. You aren’t alone on that front.:)
I want Tieks so bad. My first choice would be pink.
Have no idea what the first album I bought was. Too many years ago. Gave those to my nephews but still have a big box full.
I spent my First Communion money to buy the Xanadu soundtrack. I no longer take communion but I DO still listen to that album. (My first cassette was Billy Squier’s Don’t Say No and my first CD(s) was a Led Zeppelin box set).
Happy 4th to you too!
My first album was Joan Jett and the Blackhearts (remember “I Love Rock and Roll?”). I played it on my a Wonder Woman record player. My dad (a music buff) was so excited that I was getting into music and thought this was ridiculous. So he bought mea full-on stereo system. I was the most popular 11-year-old in town for about five minutes, haha! Happy 4th to you!
Cute dog! Happy 4th of July to you and your family!
I don’t need to tell you how I am when you see my first album purchase. A Hard Day’s Night by the Beatles. I was in seventh grade! 1964!
First cassette that I bought with my own money: Foreigner (greatest hits).
First album received as a gift: Shaun Cassidy. I am SO ashamed.
I love your recipes. I’m making your chocolate pie to take to a 4th party today.
Still looking for new show to watch? Marvel agents of shield. Just downloaded season and it’s incredible. Suspenseful, funny…you will love it!
Good luck with your Tieks. Because I saw so many friends rave, love and cheer about them, I ordered three pairs. Unfortunately my feet are not compatible with them and I get super bad blisters and so…I can’t hang with them. I want to. They are adorable but don’t work for me. I wish they did! Can’t wait to see what you pick out!
The truncated feeds, content theft, sigh. So sad bloggers even have to worry about this!
Thank you BEB for informing us and i completely agree with Kim :)
You look so beautiful in that pic.. Happy 4th July and hope you have a wonderful day xx
