First I have to tell you that I love your blog.
Is there a tutorial for that Mario cake that you made? How hard was it? I would love to try and make it for my little boys birthday. It is so adorable and he is a HUGE Mario fan.
Hi Tammy, I don’t have a tutorial, but I can tell you it was actually a little easier than I anticipated. The hardest part was the 2D Mario and Luigi. I just used screen shots from the game and photos to put together the scenes and the characters. Have fun!
I LOVE your blog!! I really want to get into making and decorating cookies and cakes. I did piping for the first time in a long time and I was surprised how well I did. But my royal icing kept sliding off my cookies as they dried. What do you suggest?
I outline the cookies first so that there is a “barrier” of sorts before flooding the surface with royal icing. I did a tutorial on decorating cookies with royal icing, it might be helpful:
I have never used royal icing but i love the look of it and am a little nervous about trying it, so far i am a strict buttercream decorator because i love the taste of it!! How close is royal icing to buttercream, what are the similarities and what are the differences? I am also thinking about trying fondant, because it is so popular right now, but i despise the taste of it! TIA!! Love your site, it’s bookmarked so I can find it in a hurry!!!!!
Hi…I love your blog !! Thanks for all the tips and recipes that you provide. What is the best way to ship cookies that are decorated? What do you recommend ?Thanks!!
Jen
Hi Jen, I usually wrap each cookie individually in plastic wrap and then flat in ziploc bags, with bubble wrap between each layer of cookies and around the edges. I find it’s best to use a box that is just the right size so there isn’t a lot of extra space – it keeps them tightly packed and from moving. I hope that helps!
I am just wondering if you have ever had a problem with your decorated cookies’ colors’ bleeding? I have allowed the icing to completly dry, however, I still have a bleeding issue. Can you offer some help?
I made your Irish car bomb cupcakes for my daughter’s bridal shower cocktail party. Although there were recipes for them on other blogs/websites, I was drawn to yours. They were FABULOUS! This same daughter is getting married on St. Patrick’s Day. I’m thinking of making your sugar cookie recipe for favors. I haven’t had the best of luck baking sugar cookies, but I’m hoping my cupcake success will spill over. Sorry to ramble. My daughter has a blog (balacinghome.com…check it out) and I know how much she appreciates feedback, so thanks for sharing. Also, my son just caught your peanut butter cup recipe…..he’s inspired too!

Hello,
I am just wondering if you have ever had a problem with your decorated cookies’ colors’ bleeding? I have allowed the icing to completly dry, however, I still have a bleeding issue. Can you offer some help?
Hi Marie, This tends to happen to me when my icing is a bit too thin. It just takes some practice to get the feel for a good consistency.
Pls let me ow with icing see cookies r covered is it fondant rooked and cut out?
Thanks
Hi Shyama, I don’t use fondant on cookies, but rather royal icing.
I am trying to find fire department decorated cookies and cupcakes
