Friday Things
1. Thank you to everyone for the outpouring of kind words and congratulations on the birth of our baby boy. We are head over heels in love and are soaking in every minute that we get to snuggle him.
2. Many of you asked how Einstein and Duke have been doing with Joseph… I’m happy to report that they’ve been great. Einstein shows periodic interest, but mostly just does his own thing, except when Joseph is crying. Einstein gets super upset and barks at us. Duke has really taken on the role of big brother. If he hears the baby stir or fuss, he rushes right over. He follows us into the nursery at night and lays next to the glider until Joseph is back to sleep. I think those two are going to be the best of friends for years to come!
3. Needless to say, I haven’t done much for the last few weeks other than take care of Joseph, recuperate, nap when I can, and be eternally grateful for my mom and my in-laws for keeping us well-fed with a fridge full of fresh meals so we haven’t had to do any cooking or grocery shopping; we haven’t even had to break into our stash of freezer meals yet!
4. My husband introduced me to Jamie Cullum’s music quite a number of years ago, and I love the covers he does of popular hit music. He does a great cover of Rihanna’s “Don’t Stop the Music”, but my new favorite is his cover of Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off”.
We watched this multiple times one morning last week after failing to fall back to sleep after one of Joseph’s feedings, and it’s been in my head ever since… love it.
5. I love that we’re finally getting some snow this winter, but I’m still waiting for a huge storm to hit. There’s nothing better than being snowed in with cozy blankets, a fireplace roaring and some comfort food :)
6. I ate the last chocolate chip cookie in my freezer two nights ago and I am beyond sad. Time to whip up a new batch!
7. Did you watch the Super Bowl? What was your favorite commercial? Not at all surprising, my favorite was the Budweiser commercial with the Clydesdales and the yellow lab puppy. That series of commercials makes me teary-eyed every single time without fail.
8. If you’re also a fan of the Budweiser Clydesdale commercials, my father-in-law sent me this link yesterday: A Look Back: Budweiser Clydesdales in Super Bowl Commercials. It’s a recap of every single Clydesdale commercial dating back to 1996.
9. I’m loving that both Scandal and The Americans came back last week; finally some new shows to watch! We also started the second season of Black Sails on Starz… yet another show that I didn’t really think I’d like at first, but then surprised myself and got into after a few episodes.
10. TGIF! These snow dogs wish you a great weekend :)
Just realized I have not been receiving any e-mails from your site. The last one I received was on 1/07/15. Can you please check to see if I’m still on your mailing list?
Thank you,
Rosalie McNulty

Congratulations! He is very cute and I love the pictures of the dogs in the nursery. So sweet:)
Belated congrats on the arrival of babyJoseph. He looks adorable as do the dogs One.big happy family!
He is so cute omg… I’m glad that your pups (I know they are full grown and Adults but they will always be little ones ) are getting along so well together I have a feeling that Einstein is going to be the protective one when it comes to Joseph and won’t let anyone harm him and Duke is going to be the one to Joseph occupied for hours. Golden retrievers are some of the best breeds out there to have around a baby/young child with their gentle nature, temperament, and watchful eye, goldens have one of the most easy going personality out of all the dog breeds next to the Saint Bernard, leonberger, Bernese mountain dog, and ironically a very well bred pitbull know it sound odd but the English onced used them as protectors and guardians for their own children. However nothing beats a golden retriever these are some of the most nurturing dogs. The snow is so amazing I can’t believe we are getting more it seems a little overwhelming at times there is another Budweiser super bowl commercial it’s called puppy love it was 2014. What I thought what a load was the juggling act with the seahawks member made and the refs called it, the ball never touched the ground but the refs called it anyway…like I said that was a load. Tom brady pass throwing the ball to another that is so totally covered nostalgia much yeah sounded like the 2012 super bowl all over again lol oh well least it was good. I hope everything keeps going well for you, your family, and your puppies.
My Lucy has also enjoyed what snow we have received here in Central/eastern-Western Maryland. We also are waiting for the big one. Sadly the storm where New England received about 2 or 3 feet of snow we had percipitation for almost two and a half days but it could never really get it’s act together most of the time and we received partly wintry mix, flurries, freezing rain and only a couple of inches of snow. However Lucy is still finding any bit of remaining snowpiles she can to roll in. Don’t worry about putting out any recipes any time soon. You have given us over the past year at least FAR more than enough to keep us all quite busy trying out new things for weeks, even months, to come. You spend time with your new little one and enjoy every precious moment wtih him, I’m very glad Einstein and Duke love him but I didn’t have any doubt knowing how goldens love children. What’s so nice about golden retrievers many people don’t realize is while they are without question THE most gentle, loving, loyal, dear dogs ever existing on the face of the earth, should someone try to hurt or harm their family members can they protect them as fiercely as any bulldog out there. Without question Duke would most likely already give his life for Joseph. They’re intelligent enough to know that Joseph is part of the family and very special. THAT’S why people like me and your family and so many others love our goldens so much, we get the best of both worlds. Give those boys a hug from basketgirl in Maryland and tell them Lucy still would like to meet them one day.
I’m glad to know we weren’t the only new parents “crazy” enough to put our son, Connor, in his nursery from the start. He was in the crib on our first night home, and he’s been there ever since. Might not work for everyone, but it was perfect for us, especially once my husband went back to work after a week at home. No sense both of us being zombies during the day, especially since he actually had to be productive.
I have two dogs as well. When Connor was born almost a year ago (Feb. 15th), we had a barely one-year-old Greater Swiss Mountain Dog and a 10-year-old Great Dane. As with Einstein and Duke, our senior dog wasn’t fazed by the baby while the puppy was excited and excitable but always with good intentions.
Glad to hear things are going so well. I know it was a big adjustment for us to go from none to one. The past six months for us have been a lot of fun and you should believe people when they say, “It just gets better.” They are telling the truth.
#5-bite your tongue, woman!
Congratulations and thanks for sharing.
Freezing and buried in Buffalo,
Kristin
Michelle,
Joseph looks adorable. Always love all the puppy pics. We had a about a foot of snow at the beginning of the week and another 3 to 4 on Thursday, so it’s starting to pile up.

Glad that Joseph, Einstein and Duke are getting along so well….it’s always nice to see the doggies in the baby room:)
I saw Jamie Cullum as an opening act to Billy Joel a few weeks ago in State College. I’d never heard of him before, but I agree! His covers are fantastic. I think I actually prefer his version to Rihannas’!
Joseph and his protectors – soooo sweet! We just finished both seasons of The Fall on Netlfix. Great crime drama if you’re looking for something to watch.
Aww. I’m so happy for you and your wee one! He’s so handsome! And I love that Duke and Einstein are so protective and concerned! So cute!
I love the picture of Joseph, he’s a handsome little guy! My 3 kids grew up with goldens, they are the best of friends, protectors, and even trouble buddies!
Congratulations on your baby boy, Michelle! He’s beautiful!
Joseph definitely has two lifelong buddies just waiting for him to grow! I love stories of how animals bond with children :)
I know it’s cliche to say, but enjoy these early days with your sweet baby because it will fly by!
Could you have made a more beautiful baby!!!!??? This baby is so precious. I cannot believe the dimple in his chin! With that hair, that dimple and those eyes, he’s gonna be a lady killer! Congratulations! Love him to pieces.
thanks for the picture…he is quite handsome!
Oh my gosh…check out all that hair :-). Joseph looks so teeny tiny in the middle of the crib :-). I see the “boys” are keeping an eye on him…..well, at least Duke is….Einstein looks like he’s catching up on sleep :-). Yes, one day you’ll be posting pictures and videos of Joseph crawling with Duke and Einstein in pursuit :-). Great years are ahead!!!
He’s a beautiful baby, love that picture, congratulations to all of you! Cooking and cleaning can wait, he will grow up waaaaay too fast, enjoy every moment you can
Wow! I’m impressed that you have Joseph sleeping in a crib already. Mine were in a cradle/bassinet until ~6 weeks or so. You can have some of our snow from Massachusetts, we’ve been snowed in for almost 2 weeks, and have another foot coming. But, as you point out, good excuse to bake some cookies.
Ahh congratulations! Joseph is absolutely adorable!! Enjoy every minute! :)
He’s just beautiful. Glad you’re feeling well. Keep taking it easy.
I have not see what your husband looks like but WOW your son looks so much like you! He is absolutely adorable! Congratulations again and again! And Duke and Einstein….love how they have taken to Joseph each in their own way! The photo of them by the crib says it all! I love how you are feeling the need to make choc chip cookies….it is the snowy weather…I am making some this weekend and I saw a cheesecake brownie on Pinterest that I am dying to try (along with one of your soup recipes)! Have a cozy weekend! P.S. Love the Super Bowl Clydesdale recap!
He is so adorable Michelle! So glad to hear you are enjoying your Motherhood so much, soaking in every little moment and being well fed at the same time! You’re family sounds wonderful, sounds like it’s a team effort!!! It’s so cute how Duke and Einstein have become so protective of little Joseph! Enjoy your weekend! Hope you find time to make your cookies! :)
What a handsome little boy Joseph is! And I love the dogs sleeping on the floor next to his crib — dogs just naturally take over the role of protector, don’t they? I’ve never seen it otherwise. Enjoy your precious gift from God!
Beautiful baby.
And I must add that I love the photos of your dogs.
Best wishes.
He has so much hair. Absolutely precious!
