Friday Things
1. This little guy has totally stolen my heart. I could sit and watch him smile and coo all day, every day… which is pretty much what I do! Even when he’s up at 3:30 in the morning or refusing to nap for hours on end in the afternoon, I just want to hug and snuggle him. I feel so lucky to be his mom.
2. On Wednesday, I turned the big 3-5. I ate pizza for dinner, had chocolate for snacks and enjoyed a wonderfully relaxing day with all of my boys. Thank you all for the birthday wishes!
3. I have had a miserable time with dry skin over the last month or so… unless I slather myself with lotion after showering, my skin is flaky and gross. I know they say not to take hot showers, but when it’s cold and dreary outside I can’t NOT take a hot shower. It’s a compromise I just can’t make.
4. Have you seen the story about the man in Washington state who used a cardboard cutout of the man from the Dos Equis’ beer commercials (“the most interesting man in the world”) in the passenger seat so he could use the HOV lanes? I’m not sure what’s funnier – that, or the trooper’s tweet about it!
5. Love this tutorial about how to make natural dyed Easter eggs… are decorated eggs part of your Easter tradition?
6. Did you see this list of 21 Food Words & Phrases That We Should All Probably Quit Using? Any others you’d add to the list?
7. You know I’m a makeup and hair novice, so I’m loving these 29 hair care cheat sheets.
8. I absolutely adore Tom Hanks; this montage of all of his famous movies is perfect.
9. How did your March Madness bracket fair during the first two rounds of the tournament? I’m currently in last place in our little pick ’em league, sooooo I didn’t do a very good job with my picks. Not that I know anything at all about college basketball, though!
10. TGIF! I hope you have a playful weekend!
Ummm, I think I maybe had your baby’s twin…if thats possible :) https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BydfWZXanLI5QXgycXhXUmhoLXM/view?usp=sharing
When was he born? Love your blog!
Kara
Haha, very similar! He was born on January 19th :)
sorry , also nothing wrong with crisco for dry hands. know any bakers with bad hands?
sorry so late in offering a suggestion.. I live in suburban Chicago. wind cold snow dry air for the heat.
make sure you have a humidifier on your heating system and it is set appropriately.
I started using Neutrogena bath wash followed by Neutrogena body oil followed by lotion. I know it is a lot but it works. when it is really bad I also use cetaphil or eucerin cream.
Gorgeous little face!
Try fish oil tablets for dry skin, it helps my eczema :)
Your little guy is ADORABLE!
I swear by Cetaphil for my dry skin.
I would add, “To Die For” to that list – makes me cringe. My husband is stuck on “phenomenal” when he is commenting on food. It’s getting old.
Johnson’s Baby Oil Gel works great for dry skin!
Don’t know where the question mark came from, sorry! Need to check before hitting submit.
What a beautiful baby boy? Enjoy your photos of him and the dogs as well as your recipes.
I have horrible skin and every time I shave my legs they itch and breakout (if I scratch, the skin tears) but since I started using Goat milk soap from http://www.goatmilkstuff.com I don’t use lotion or anything else and my legs are so much better. They make all their soap on their farm, the family runs the business and takes care of the goats, it’s made in the USA, and the prices are reasonable. I buy a few bars a year and they last quite a while. The smells are amazing too. I even use it to wash my naturally curly hair and haven’t used shampoo in three years. I whole wholeheartedly recommend them.
I look forward to you blog, especially your Friday Things. Your baby is seriously one of the prettiest babies I have ever seen. Have a good weekend.
O M Gosh!!! Could he get ANY cuter?? He is just beautiful. I have a 9 year old girl. This is the best advice I ever received: Hold them and hug them every chance you get, because once they start walking, mobility trumps hugs, lol. Enjoy him every second you have. Hugs.
It makes me so happy to see you embracing motherhood so much :) He’s so cute!
PS – happy birthday!!
Thanks Kristen! :)
That food list, guilty on multiple accounts. LOL! Thank your for bringing the list to my attention; I had not seen it.
I’m a big fan of olive oil for my face. It’s an awesome make-up remover, cleanser, moisturizer. Google it.
Joseph is one of the cutest babies I have ever seen!!!
That Tom Hanks clip is so adorable!

I’m another one on board the coconut oil train; I haven’t used regular lotion in years. I have keratosis pilaris (the little bumps on the backs of the arms and legs) and it’s made it completely disappear. I usually use the Parachute brand in the blue bottle just because it has such a lovely coconut smell. I also use it to make a sugar scrub for gentle exfoliating.
Happy belated birthday, you don’t look a day over 28! Your Joseph is just precious! I love babies and goldens!
Definitely recommend Aveeno for dry skin as well – the Skin Relief Moisturising Lotion with shea butter version though (blue label rather than green). It seems to be the only thing that works for a lot of people going by reviews, brilliant stuff.
I think a heavy moisturiser is the only thing that will counteract hot showers unfortunately – it’s a bit of a trade off this time of year :-)
I was just at the dermatologist at she recommended Cera Ve SA cream. it comes in a jar, I found it at Walgreens and it works really well. It has made a HUGE difference for my skin.
I second that! We’ve used it for 2 months with both my kids who have horrible eczema- it’s made a world of difference.
Sorry to hear about the very dry skin. My suggestion, and what I have used for 25 years, is Jojoba Oil. It is absorbed easily by the skin and has significant healing and moistierizing effects. A very small amount goes a long way!
Such a cutie….great photo.
I love all the extra “clickables” you have on this post. Loved the Tom Hanks one in particular. Never new about this late night host. Love the British accent.
Took me forever to go through everything you have here and I loved it.
Yes, I know, I spelled knew wrong….forgiveness please.
Thanks for posting about dry skin. I have dry sensitive skin and after having a scrub done I have irritated mine so bad that they have me on prednisone, a topical cream, and more. I am with you on the hot showers! I am supposed to show every other day and take a lukewarm shower. I don’t know about that.
As far as words not to say… I think the only one I am guilty of is the EVOO. Oops! Happy Birthday! Pizza and chocolate sound like the best way to celebrate to me!
Your baby gets cuter with every photo. My problem is dry hair. Bought some coconut oil but have not tried it yet.
Lost my dad when I was 35. He just went to sleep. Thought it was bad at the time bur realize now how lucky he was.
Happy Belated Birthday! Thank you for the wonderful blog ! I love your Friday roundups! Beautiful Baby ! We’ve been using Olive Oil and Argan Oil with our body creams or lotions for years to combat dry skin. Living in Arizona– you have to combat dryness all 12 months. Even living in Michigan, this beauty regimen worked. Also, keep hydrated! Stay blessed!
Do you ever call him Joe? Obviously thriving.
Thanks for not forgetting the furry photos, too – I wait for them!
Hi Judy, We don’t because he shares a name with his dad, and I call my husband “Joe”. The most common nickname right now (we both have Italian families) is Giuseppe (Joseph in Italian).
Hmm…Jojo…JB (middle name?)…doesn’t matter – his friends will decide.
Very handsome, anyway. Of course.
Michelle: In the winter, my skin gets so dry it actually hurts.
What I do is at least once a month is have a soaking bath with bath oil (baby oil).
It really does wonders, the oil soaks right into your skin (think a sponge).
I know what a lot of people say it is sitting in your own dirt … but if you take a shower everyday that shouldn’t be an issue.
Your little fella gets cuter by the day! I LOVE these pics! Your other two “guys” are pretty darn cute too! Happy Belated Birthday. I’m hoping Wisconsin gets in the finals.) I think Tom Hanks is THE BEST, too! That cardboard cut out was SO cute as was the way the trooper handled it.
Have a fabulous weekend with that sweet little boy!!
Hi,..I’ve had dry skin for a long time. Hands and heels are raw and cracking this time of year,..but I started taking Natural Bounty vitamins, Hair, Skin and Nails. I like the idea of the vitamin and it does seem to be making a difference. http://www.amazon.com/Natures-Bounty-Optimal-Solutions-Softgels/dp/B004I8GU4A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1427468454&sr=8-1&keywords=hair+skin+and+nails+vitamins
Your son is so cute!! My son is 5 wks old and I’ve been experiencing dry skin…not sure if it’s the weather or just having a baby?? Wow you’re 35?? In your pics, you definitely look younger!! I’m 36 this year so it’s nice to know that not evey one is having a baby in their 20s :)
For dry skin, I love applying Trader Joe’s coconut body butter right out of the shower. As an x-ray tech, I wash my hands constantly, so I like to use Alba Botanica very emollient body lotion (unscented) on my hands throughout the day.
Never have had dry skin until this winter. Searched on web and found this site…
https://www.taprootfarmsak.com/ and bought their argan oil. It is amazing! It isn’t cheap but it is worth it. I do not own the company or know them. I just know my skin is 100% better after using the argan oil from there. Give it a whirl :) And your son is adorable too :) and this weeks doggie picture of them playing…pure happy doggie bliss! You make my Friday Mrs. Brown Eyed Baker! Have a great weekend!
I know you are getting lots of advice about dry skin, but I’m going to add another tip! I have horrible skin – super sensitive to everything and eczema on my elbows and other crevices. I highly recommend coconut oil. You don’t need much and it works great!
Joseph is simply adorable. Every photo is a treasure!
Use vitamin E lotion for dry skin. I have super flaky skin and the only thing that aleviates me without making me feel sticky is Vitamin E lotion! (my favorite is called Fruit of the Earth)
Joseph gets cuter at every photo! I’ve tried Aveeno, bit I swear by Gold Bond…..even their original will heal eczema patches. Running a humidifier during dry heating days seems to help also. Good luck!
Happy belated birthday!!!
1. Dry skin might be hormonal
2. Use Dreft or Target brand of laundry soap or what u use for Joseph
3.dove, Ivory, Aveeno lotion
4. Free & Clear Shampoo
From family of women with dry skin!
You were born on my favorite Feast day!!!! Happy belated Birthday!!
Love the pic of the little guy, he is so adorable!
We had a similar case here in Colorado with someone using a dummy for the HOV lane. The judge here sentenced him to stand on the side of the road during rush hour with a sign that read “the HOV lane is not for dummies”. I love creative judges with a sense of humor!
I totally relate to the dry skin….and then my skin breaks out even worse because it’s dry. And at 35 (we’re the same age can totally relate) breakouts are embarrassing and unacceptable. I look worse than the students I teach. Bah. Ahaha works well for me.
Love the pic of your little one! As for dry skin – you might try using coconut oil? I put it on before bed pretty much head to toe and when I wake up it is all soaked in and my skin feels awesome! I use the organic kind that is unrefined. Just an idea :)
Don’t think there is anything wrong with the terms Foodie and Yummy…they are descriptive (also have a problem with others deciding what I should and shouldn’t say!). Nothing wrong with pizza for birthday dinner…priorities and perspectives change over time (and pizza is always delicious). Love the photos of Joseph and doggies as always.
Ugh. I have the worst problems with dry skin this time of the year. I told my boyfriend that the thing I’m looking forward to most about spring is my skin healing. I also work at Starbucks, so the harsh soaps used when washing dishes cracks my poor heads. I’m really a mess. :( On a better note, it is Friday! :)
What a lovely little boy.
Use Aveeno for your dry skin, it’s the best!
