Friday Things
1. We went all out for Joseph’s first Halloween last weekend! My husband and his dad mocked up a DeLorean time machine and I outfitted Joseph with some serious Marty McFly clothes. He loved sitting in his car and playing with the wheel! (The four layers of clothes? Not so much, until we got outside. HA.)
2. Earlier this week, I was changing Joseph’s diaper and he kept hitting my hand with an open palm so I started saying “high five” and did it over and over and… it stuck! He totally knows it now and will reach up with an open palm and huge smile. I was so deliriously excited and it felt like the best thing I’d ever done, ever. Teaching my baby to high five. Then, my husband taught him “shake hands” and he caught on to that, too. Next on my list – waving hello and bye bye!
3. I’m still undecided about whether I love or hate the time change. Getting dark by 6pm makes me drowsy and want to crash super early, but I love, love, LOVE the bright light at 6:30 in the morning. It makes it so much easier to get moving when all I want to do is bury myself in blankets.

5. Was the weather insanely good this week where you live? It was in the 70’s here and we had our windows open multiple days and nights. SO NICE!
6. Can you believe that Thanksgiving is now LESS than three weeks away?! Time is just blowing by… it’s about to be Christmas and ::gasp:: Joseph’s first birthday. But… Thanksgiving! I absolutely adore hosting and am already looking forward to making my menu and thinking about some decorations.
7. Speaking of holidays, I totally felt like this on Sunday:
8. Do you have a hard start date on Christmas music? I’ve heard advertisements that there’s already a holiday channel on satellite radio, but I haven’t ventured there yet. Maybe the week before Thanksgiving?
9. It had been ages since my husband and I watched a movie, and we finally saw American Sniper over the weekend. Such a sad story, but a really well-done movie.
10. TGIF! These two buddies wish you an awesome weekend!
Such a great idea for a Halloween costume!
He looks so cute!
What a cute idea for Joseph’s Halloween costume… he is SOO adorable!
I won’t start playing Christmas music till around Thanksgiving.
As much as I love it, it’s still a little too early. (and hubby would
not be happy….he always looks at me funny when I put it on around Thanksgiving time. He would prefer I wait till maybe 2 weeks before Christmas.
Can’t believe it’s nearing Joseph’s first bd….that will be such a special, fun day!!
Just Luv Joseph’s costume, he is an adorable little man. Mine are all grown, I so miss making their costumes. Just luv your blog. Thanks so much
I like to wait until after Remembrance Day (Nov 11 in Canada) to get going on Christmas prep. Christmas feels so rushed on us every year, that we never really get the time to honour and remember those who have served and the families that are left behind.
But Nov 12, I am in full Christmas mode!!!
Oh my I love that costume!
I’ve already started listening to Christmas music, shhhhh. I also have planned out my schedule for Thanksgiving baking. I am a college student, so I only have so much time before Thanksgiving once I’m home, so every minute counts! :)
Joseph looks so cute in his costume and in the car! He is growing up really fast.
It’s too early to listen to Christmas music for me – I like to wait till the day after Thanksgiving for that…lol…I haven’t started shopping yet but I am at least looking at things to buy. Sort of have Thanksgiving plans. The two boys look so cute together.
That light up Halloween car is so precious!

Cutest costume ever! Soooooo clever and timely :)
My standard poodles high five…but they expect a biscuit for their efforts!
No Christmas music until day after Thanksgiving!!!!
I’m in Northern California and it has FINALLY cooled off here…time to build the first fire in the fireplace :)
I am not a fan of Christmas music :S I wish I was sometimes, but I am just not. I wonder if it’s bc I feel the songs are overplayed or bc I remember as a kid doing Christmas concerts for school. I was shy and the rehearsals were tiring.
I LOVE the Marty McFly costume!!! How cute! My gosh, it’s hard to believe he is not a baby anymore – he’s becoming a kid!
I’m enjoying the time change – and the weather change. I was SICK of summer! It’s been so hot and humid here in Arkansas we needed a break. Even people who hate winter have said they promise not to complain about the cold this year!
Can’t wait to hear what you are having for Thanksgiving – I don’t think we will be doing a lot this year. My elderly parents have been ill and it just doesn’t feel like the holidays. Maybe that will change.
Have a great weekend – it’s going to be cold and rainy here!
I luv Christmas music but I wait until after Thanksgiving to put it on like the day after Thanksgiving! LOL along with my holiday decor it all goes up that Friday and this year my husband isn’t working that day guess what he will be doing!! I started seeing the holiday commercials last week and started getting excited! This is my favorite time of year! Joseph looks like he had an absolute blast for Halloween :) I’m not a fan of it getting darker earlier either, makes me tired and ready for bed by 7pm!
Love the costume! He’s such an adorable kid and he is getting so big!
And like you, I am so looking forward to Thanksgiving. I almost always host it and start planning on Nov.1st. We generally have between 22-30 people and we host an open house for dessert. Gets the dinner dishes finished quick!
I am a December Christmas music person, but having works retail for years, It’sbeen November first for ages. I walked into a store last week and was singing the song that was on the overhead for about 3 minutes before I realized it was my first Xmas tune of the season! My birthday is 12/23 and my dad was 12/24. I used to think all the decorations and music were for us when I was little!
I can’t stand Christmas music before Thanksgiving. I know it’s already on Sirius-XM radio but I can’t bring myself to listen to any of it. One of the radio stations starts Christmas music on November 1 and they play it until noon on December 25. I complained about it once and they said they do it “because their listeners want it”. One year I did start listening right away and I was completely burned out on Christmas by December 1.
However, I’m considering putting up my tree next weekend. It’s only because I’m having surgery on my ankle on the 17th and will be on crutches, etc. until sometime in December or January and if I don’t put it up it won’t get done.
I think Marty McFly went back in time to his babyhood! How cute! And I love that he’s already picked up on high fives!
I love Christmas time and Christmas music, but I find I burn out if I start listening before late November/early December. The same cannot be said about decorations or books though! I am seriously considering putting up my tree in the next week or two (sacrilege!) I just love the twinkling lights, ornaments and greenery. A few extra weeks of decorations would be ok with me!
I have already started reading Christmas books. Every year I say I’m going to read them, but I always run out of time. I decided to get a head start this year and it will help to get me ready for the season. I’ve read The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus by L. Frank Baum, and I have listened to audiobooks for A Christmas Carol and Skipping Christmas.
Joseph is so adorable!! Great Halloween costume :)
Funny you mention Christmas music. I was thinking about it on my way into work this morning, and came in and tuned in (headphones on so not to disturb my cube-mates). Usually I wait until Thanksgiving week, but was in the mood, so why not?
I agree with previous posts, Joseph is indeed growing up sooooo fast. He is adorable. It’s fun to enjoy his progress and your absolute delight in him!
Christmas music! I have to admit that I get so excited when it first comes on. I love Light Up Night and the local radio station officially starts the season with 24 hrs of Christmas music. But until then, now that the sat stations have it on, I’m totally tuned in :) How sweet is Einstein? That picture says he’s protecting his little buddy. He sure does smile for the camera. What a great Halloween picture of Joseph too! Have a great weekend.
Oh my goodness, I just can’t with Joseph’s costume!! Too cute!
Yep, Sirius launched their holiday channels on November 2. Waiting until after Thanksgiving to tune in!!!
What an awesomely creative costume for Joseph.
Joseph is growing up too fast, he needs to stop it! He really is getting big and losing the baby look. No Christmas music for me til after Dec 1st. But we can hardly keep the stores from blaring it from everywhere. This year Thanksgiving is likely to be in a rehab center because my husband is there trying to get better. It’s been a long 5+ months but he is doing all he can to get out. His goal is to be home for Christmas.
Thanks for the updates on Joseph, they always leave me smiling. And the dogs too. They are always cause for smiles.
I can’t believe how big Joseph has gotten, and he looks so cute standing next to his own DeLorean. You asked when we like to start listening to Christmas music. Well, inasmuch as I love Christmas, I really don’t care to start listening to it until at least the 1st of December, or right after Thanksgiving at the earliest. Have a great weekend, everyone!
Joseph’s costume is so adorable!! I love that he even had his own DeLorean. Such a cute idea!
