Friday Things
1. Joseph started his new swim class this week! He went from being the oldest kid in class to being the youngest – this class has mostly kids that are well over two, walking down steps, speaking in full sentences, etc. It was a much more rambunctious class, but he had a lot of fun!
2. Next week is the big ultrasound… we’ll find out if Joseph is going to have a little brother or little sister! Eeeek, can’t wait! Then starts the hard part – names :)
3. How do you store your jewelry? I’ve finally finished up the Konmari of my closet and everything is put back and organized, except for the jewelry. I was using some open compartment trays in drawers previously, but I’d like to keep something on top of a dresser. How do you store/organize your jewelry?
4. Great chart on troubleshooting cake fails!
5. I’ve been trying to get back into eating salads to get a little more veggies into my diet, but I’m definitely an Elaine Benice type of salad eater… it needs to be a big salad with a lot of STUFF. I’m currently enjoying romaine with shredded red cabbage, shredded carrots, cucumber, cheddar, croutons or sesame sticks, bacon and French fries (of course because, I’m a Pittsburgher) with homemade ranch.
6. I can’t remember the last time I went to a carnival or amusement park, but I was craving a corn dog a couple of weeks ago and just saw homemade funnel cakes on Pinterest. What is your favorite carnival food?
7. Haaaa I’m totally in the 1%! I never answer unless I’m expecting someone or a package!
8. This tie dye surprise birthday cake is so adorable!
9. How is your team doing in the playoffs? I somehow managed to survive three overtime games in the last ten days or so… next series starts up tonight against Tampa!
10. TGIF! Joseph is super attentive to when the dogs need to go outside and makes sure we know. I think he’s going to make a great big brother :)
For the jewelry holder, I’ve had a tall rotating one for over 10 years and it’s all I’ve ever needed. Holds bracelets, studs, necklaces and dangly earrings.
Our boys loved swimming too! As infants and toddlers we attended the local YMCA. We now attend Goldfish swim school. It is the best! They are learning the butterfly and other strokes. Check online to see if there is one near you. You won’t be disappointed.
haha…1%…my door and garage are ground level. I live upstairs. I don’t crawl around, but just ignore. If you are persistent…still no door. I’ll just step onto the balcony and holler down to you. Your son is a doll.
Sonic’s corn dogs are pretty darn good. And from 2-4 pm they’re only $1! As for baby names, Hey You is gender neutral.
Long time reader and I never post comments. I’m sorry this has to be one of my first. Living in sunny St. Petersburg, Florida I most say GO BOLTS! Hoping its a great series. I really enjoy your site though!! LOL!
Excitement regarding ultrasound results! And just a corroboration of Lori Fahey’s detective friend….I am a victim of a robbery that resulted in a lifetime of Jewelry (I stored mine in a custom jewelry drawer built into my closet) gone! Even sadder was my Dad’s WWII compass that he had given to me the last week of his life. I wore that thing around my neck through the hospital, hospice and then to his funeral as my touchstone–irreplaceable. While thankfully, I was out at the time of the robbery, the CSI person warned me never to ignore a knock on the door. She said this is how would-be robbers gauge whether someone is there. No answer and they gain access (mine threw furniture through the back sliding glass door), not even caring about the alarm as they know response times. Our police department have received 911 calls from people in closets who were in the midst of being robbed because they did not acknowledge the door. I always ask and look out the peephole until I determine whether I want to open the door.
I’m totally in the 1% too ?
Following to see jewelry storage ideas.
Good luck on the ultrasound! ?
Good luck against TB……hopefully we will see you in the finals…GO SHARKS!!!! ;P
My hubby built me a nice cabinet with glass door for my jewelry….lucky me!
I am also that 1 percent…with the being sneaky and cautious about finding out who is at the door! I was happy when I heard the Penquins are moving on..YAH!
I want LOTS of different things in my salad, too.
I will be looking for your post about the sex of your baby. Either one will be a great playmate for Joseph. (and I bet he will be a fantastic big brother!)
I live in Southern California and our friend is a detective for our police department. He said you don’t have to open the door but always let the person who is knocking on your door know that someone is home. Through the door say “I’m not interested” he told us burglars will work in twos and one knocks, if they think no one is home, the other goes around to the back and will break in. So good idea to always let them know someone is home.
My favorite carnival goodie Is the fresh BBQ’d corn on the cob, smother with butter and seasonings! Drooling…
Just have to tell you Joseph is so handsome! I really look forward to your Friday picture of him and you puppies. Thank you!
Hi Lori, Thanks for sharing that tip! I wonder if two massive dogs barking at the door is enough of a deterrent? ;-)
Joseph is so adorable! I think he will really enjoy his swimming class being the youngest …lol…I am a fanatic about having a lot of stuff in my salad too though I’ve never added French Fries – I think that must be a new Pittsburgh thing because my dad lived there for years and never had a salad with them…lol..I too am looking for better jewelry storage so will see what others suggest. I peek out the front door when the bell rings and I’m alone at home…no way to be a ninja with a large front window – sigh – the Blues made it through the 7 games and I think we start up again either tonight or tomorrow against the Sharks so I’m going to be back to chewing my nails…lol..
French fries IN your salad?? Is that a Pittsburgh thing?!
Yes, it most definitely is :) I didn’t realize it was out of the ordinary until I started reading some foodie travel articles over the last few years!
Can you post all the response you get about jewelry storage – I am struggling with that too.
My kids loved their swimming classes, too – I bet he does love being with the “bib kids!” I know you guys are excited to see what’s cookin’ in your belly! I have 2 boys, which was awesome for them – but there’s always that Mother’s wish for a girl! Doesn’t matter what you get – you love them just the same!
We are building a house and I am having an in-wall cabinet built in my walk in closet with a full length mirror as the door, so you can’t tell there is jewelry behind it. We have 2 cats that LOVE to play with anything dangly, so leaving it out on display is out of the question. They sell similar cabinets on one of the home shopping networks that hangs on the wall or over the door. That’s where I got the idea.
Fav carnival food: COTTON CANDY!
I think Joseph is going to be a great big brother, too – he’s had a couple of furry friends to show him what it’s like to have companions!
Have a great weekend, sweetie!
For Jewelry storage:
a few years ago I was struggling with the same problem. My solutionâĤ. I bought a medicine cabinet from Home Depot, cut dowels to fit horizontally (for hanging earrings) and attached them inside the cabinet with gorilla glue. You have to be pretty precise with the cuts. For studs, I just attached a strip of 1 inch wide screening. The great thing is that when I put my earrings on, I can look in the mirror to make sure I like the look!
This is what me and my daughter use for our jewelry. Well we don’t have the exact one but it’s similar http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/store/product/household-essentials-reg-jewelry-stocking-organizer-in-coffee-linen/1046665348?categoryId=12215
I would have to say I’m in the 64%, only I peek out our front windows. Since our house has a higher elevation on that side, it sits above our driveway so I can look out rather undetected. Crazy the things we do . . .
How would you know by how much to decrease the flour or other ingredients per problem in your cake?
I think the Pens vs Caps game 6 was THE game of the season. Because really?? . . . 3 delays of game, 2 5-on-3s, giving up a 3-0 lead, and OT!?! And the Caps were the #1 team in the entire league! Excited for tonight’s game . . . Go PENS!
Hi Michelle, As for increasing or decreasing the flour, I think I would start with a couple tablespoons in either direction. Each recipe is different, so it might take some trial and error! GO PENS… hoping we can even this up!
We are totally in the 1% of not answering the door too. Especially if I am home alone, I kind of freak out since we unfortunately get a lot of solicitation and some of them ring and knock for two or three minutes. It’s so nice that FedEx and ups both have notification services now so I know when a box is coming. As for jewelry storage my mom and I share a nice wooden box with lots of compartments.
Jewelry storage? Girrrrl, you need to get you to my fave etsy shop for that: https://www.etsy.com/shop/LangtonStudio. I bought one of their small wall hanging ones that has slots for earrings (so you can hang either studs or hooked earrings) and knobs at the bottom for necklaces, and they also have ones that stand freely so you can set it on a dresser. When I outgrew my first one, I added one just like this: https://www.etsy.com/listing/187678177/you-pick-the-satin-and-mesh-wall-mounted That one is even customizable so you can choose the color of the wood and hooks! That thing holds more necklaces than you would believe — I think I’ve got a few DOZEN on mine (no lie) and most of them are fairly large pieces. I recently expanded my post earring collection (I don’t have a problem, YOU have a problem!) and I’m waiting on this bad boy to get here in the mail to hold all of those: http://www.ebay.com/itm/171868485056
When I took my sterling silver jewelry out of their individual boxes and put them in an organizer then the silver tarnished.
I too have a rack from Lanston Studio. https://www.etsy.com/listing/76779006/earring-rack-accesory-tree-earring?ref=listing-shop-header-1 It works great for me. However, I am outgrowing it.
