Friday Things
1. Last Friday, I tried to get a picture of both of the boys wearing green for St. Patrick’s Day… As you can see, things were a bit of a blur and I wasn’t terribly successful. BUT! Dominic did stay in one place for me, ha!
2. This video of a Golden Retriever and duck being best friends is pretty much the best thing ever.
3. I am planning to put together a Facebook group for BEB readers – it’ll be a catch-all to get new blog posts, and I’ll probably be sharing more informal information and asking for feedback on recipes and the site. Stay tuned!
4. Our house backs to woods and there’s basically a valley off of our backyard; we see hawks circling, flying and swooping every single day. A couple of days ago, one landed in a tree right off of our deck and just sat there, perched, for ages. I managed to get some pictures with my zoom lens – gorgeous!
5. Spring is finally here! Tell me about your warm weather plans – vacation, gardening, anything!
6. My husband went down a Pinterest rabbit hole looking at shadow box night lights and is planning to make them for the boys’ bedrooms. Love.
7. Pittsburgh’s restaurant and food scene was featured in a recent New York Times article… so proud of my hometown!
8. As we head into spring and summer, do you have any requests for recipes you’d like to see on the site?
9. If you filled out a bracket for March Madness, how did you do last weekend? I ended up with 35/48 picks correct, which put me in 3rd place, but in close second when it comes to total possible points. And I have NO idea what I’m doing when I make picks!
10. TGIF! These two are so enamored with each other, it’s crazy! When they look at each other, the heart eyes emoji should automatically pop up above their heads!
Hi. I really enjoyed the links in this post, and your hawk picture is absolutely stunning!

Boston Cream poke cake from scratch!
That sounds amazing! Consider it done! :)
Beautiful Children, (and dog)…Dominic looks like his beautiful Mom.
Aw you’re so kind, thank you! But he’s a picture of my husband!
Loving the pics.! I think great idea for Facebook! Keep well & happy all if you. :)
^ of. typos….ugh!
Love the pictures of your lil’ guys! ❤
Very interesting article on the new & upcoming food scene in Pittsburgh. Travel there quite often from WNY with friends for their children’s hockey & lacrosse events. ALWAYS looking for great places to eat.
The hawk photo…..FABULOUS!
Such a sweet picture of Dominic and Duke … it is easy to see how smitten they are with each other. ?
I would love anything Greek/Middle Eastern for spring food. I have been wanting to check out Jerusalem: A Cookbook- not sure if you have it. I love your pictures! That hawk photo is amazing!
Thanks so much for the NYT article link. I visit my friend in Cranberry Township often and we are always on the look out for great food. She lived in Charleston, SC prior to moving there so the bar is set high. Charleston has a great culinary scene that is tough to beat. But some of the Pittsburgh options in this article sound fantastic!
Awesome, Awesome photos!!! Those shadow boxes (Pinterst link) are sooo cool– I can see how the CCC would get distracted. :o) Thanks for sharing your happiness, Michelle!
Joseph and Dominic are so cute in their green…..I’m so glad that Duke and Dominic get along so well. I have to do some gardening this spring to replace things we lost when we had to have the yard re-leveled.
Yay for spring, I can’t wait to cook summer foods, grill, eat, and spend time outside! And I am REALLY looking forward to it not being so freezing in the mornings. It makes me now want to get out of bed!
Love your boys, they are so cute.
Can you tell me what brand/kind is your TV stand? I’ve been looking for a new one and yours looks like what I’ve been searching for? How high is it? That’s been my biggest problem. Most of them are too low and I’m looking for one that’s about 36″ high.
Happy Friday from Florida.
Hi BJ, Thank you! We got that TV stand from Best Buy I think four years ago. It is pretty low though – Joseph is about 33″ now and he’s definitely taller than the stand.
Oh my goodness, that Golden/duck video made my morning. Who would have imagined such a strange pairing? Seeing the two romping when the Golden was a puppy was adorable.
The picture of the hawk is amazing. I have learned so much about raptors over the last year. My interest was peaked from watching the Washington DC Bald Eagle nest that is presently being live streamed in anticipation of the two eggs in the nest hatching next week. I have never been a “bird person” but watching these magnificent creatures in the wild is truly awe inspiring. I am wondering if there possibly is a hawk nest in the vicinity of your backyard. It seems very likely.
Hi Nancy, There are two eagles’ nests in the Pittsburgh area and they have live streaming webcams on them so you can watch the eggs, etc. It’s fascinating! And yes, when my husband looked with his binoculars one day, he was pretty positive that he saw a hawk’s nest.
Super excited about the FB group! I love me some groups! :)
It’s funny how kids go through phases when you try to take their pictures. First it’s the wiggle/just-a-blur phase. Then they start saying “cheese” which scrunches up their mouths funny :) Then they learn to smile nice and posed which of course leads you to say “just relax and act natural!” It’s a cycle!
Love that hawk photo! My house backs up to woods too, but we usually only see small birds and occasionally a bunny or deer (there’s also a neighborhood black bear that haunts the trash cans at night, but thankfully I’ve never had a direct encounter. And now my trash can is locked down!)
For spring I would love to see some lemon/lavender recipes! It’s a favorite scent combination, but I have yet to make any recipes with it. Also, where can you get lavender for recipes if you haven’t gotten around to planting your own? I never see it in the grocery store.
Hi Sara! I’ve actually never used lavender in a recipe, so I’ve never looked for it. Great question! I looked online and it looks like you can buy it from places like Amazon, Etsy, etc.
Ooooh, that hawk is so pretty!
I’ve missed my favorite restaurant in Pittsburgh, D’Amico’s, for years now ever since it closed. Have a couple of others on the tip top but D’s was my #1. Interested to read the article on the restaurant scene.
Yes to a Facebook page please!
Hi Molly, I do have a regular Facebook page, if you haven’t seen it yet! http://www.facebook.com/browneyedbaker
I love the relationship between kids and pets! Our son is just in love with out two cats and his grandmothers dog. He gives me snuggles all the time and it’s the absolutely sweetest!
