DIY: Homemade Taco Seasoning Mix

An easy taco seasoning mix to make from scratch at home - no preservatives!


¼ cup + 3 tablespoons chili powder
1 tablespoon + ½ teaspoon ground cumin
1 tablespoon + ½ teaspoon ground paprika
1 tablespoon + ½ teaspoon sea salt
1 tablespoon + ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1¾ teaspoon garlic powder
1¾ teaspoon onion powder
1¾ teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes or ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper


1. Stir together all of the ingredients in an airtight container or glass jar. Store at room temperature.

To Use with Taco Meat: Brown the meat (ground beef or chicken) over medium heat until cooked through. Drain. Return to the stove over medium-high heat and add ⅔ cup of water and 2 tablespoons of the taco seasoning mix. Simmer, stirring constantly, until all of the liquid has evaporated, 3 to 5 minutes.
