Enter to win an iPad Air on www.browneyedbaker.com!

Welcome to Day 12 of the “12 Days of Giveaways”! Our last day!

It’s the last day of holiday giveaways here on BEB, and I wanted to send you into the Christmas season with a bang! I held out on buying an iPad for years after they were introduced, finally buying one nearly two years ago. I couldn’t believe how much I used it, and wished that I had gotten one much sooner! It’s perfect for car trips – from watching videos to playing games – and I LOVE using it in the kitchen. A smartphone is typically too small for following along with a recipe, and I get nervous having my laptop too close to liquids, the stove and other kitchen land mines, so the iPad is perfect. Apple recently came out with the ultra-slim iPad Air, and I am giving one away! Read below for details on how to enter to win!

GIVEAWAY DETAILS

One lucky winner will receive a 16GB iPad Air, in the color of their choice.

My very favorite tradition is baking a cranberry bundt Bread like my mom always did. We put a candle on top and sing Happy Birthday to Jesus. Then one of the family members (who used to be children) places the Baby Jesus in the manger. Another thing I did since the children were small is give a new ornament to each child so they’d have a collection to take with them when they leave our house.

My favorite Christmas tradition is Christmas Eve. Since moving away from home, the day I actually arrive back varies from year to year, but I am always home for Christmas Eve! My family has always attended the 4 pm Christmas mass ever since I was a small child and it continues to be a part of our Christmas traditions. Our extended family joins us for this mass and our neighbors always sit behind us. After mass, my family and I go home, put on our Christmas jammies, and make a Christmas Eve pancake dinner. It just doesn’t get any better than that! We usually end the night with a Christmas movie. It’s really just being home for Christmas and being surrounded by loved ones that makes me happy, whether or not we stick to tradition.

My favorite holiday tradition used to start a few days before Christmas. My mom used to make this pasta sauce that had been passed down in her family for generations. It always had to be started three days before, so all the mushrooms that were in it would be cooked into the sauce. Helping her with chopping and cooking always made me smile.

I remember those days when the whole family would sit together and just chat. It was at my grandfather’s house– which has a small patio right in the center. Every adult would pick their regular old chair and form a circle around a bonefire. The stories they would tell were the inspiration that brought to life my love for storytelling. Call me nostalgic, but I have yet to finds days as full of simple joy, as back then.

My favorite Christmas tradition is making a sweet Christmas bread to give to friends. My mom started it when I was very young and pass along the recipe and “instructions” when I became a young woman. Love doing this and now that Mom is gone, it makes me feel like I’m still celebrating Christmas with her every year.

  882. Anna Flynn on December 17, 2013 at 7:27 am

My favorite tradition was started 10 years ago. Every year we have a Santa party for all of our family and friends the last Sunday before Christmas. Each year Santa visits the party and talks with all the kids. I hope this tradition will carry forward with my kids as they grow and have children of their own!

My favorite Christmas tradition is spending some time on Christmas Eve with just my family. My kids buy a gift for each other and us (and of course we buy one for them) and we all exchange the gifts. It takes the edge off of waiting for Christmas morning presents and it gives us the family time we need before we have the hustle and bustle of extended family. 🙂

Our favorite Christmas tradition is decorating the Christmas tree. I have ornaments going back to 1933 and as each ornament is placed on the tree we talk about the memories associated with that particular ornament. It certainly sets the tone for Christmas and reflection on all we are so fortunate to have.

My favorite Christmas tradition is taking the whole family and our dig Memphis and cutting down our Christmas tree. We bring it home and set it up. Me and my girls begin decorating it while my husband makes hot chocolate. When it is all done we pick a Christmas movie to watch. It’s an all day affair that we have come to live!

My favorite used to be getting everyone together in garage when my parents lived in Florida. It would be a balmy 80 degrees and at least a dozen of us, family and friends who were around for the holidays, would all sit out there and have a few drinks and chat for hours. It makes me sad that my parents moved and there’s no central location for us to have a big family holiday any more, but I’ll always remember that uniquely Floridian tradition of enjoying the “cool” weather and good company.

As my children grow up and start families of their own, it has been important to remember to savor every bit of time that three and four generations spend together.
