The Weekend Dish: 10/15/2011

Welcome back to the Weekend Dish after last week’s hiatus. Thank you all for your kind and heartwarming comments, they mean a great deal. I got back in the groove in the kitchen this week with some amped-up cereal treats and an awesome crock-pot meal that I think you’ll love for any game days or for feeding a crowd. I’ve also been spending some quality time watching live hockey. My Chief Culinary Consultant and I were able to go to the Pens’ home opener on Tuesday, the game against the Caps on Thursday, and I will be headed down to catch tonight’s game with a friend of mine. In the kitchen, I’m working on some fall and Halloween-inspired recipes for the next week or two, so keep an eye out for lots of new stuff!

On Brown Eyed Baker This Week

Cumin and Fennel-Crusted Roast Lamb – The first lamb recipe I ever made, and it quickly became a cult favorite around here. Such amazing flavors and a great, melt-in-your-mouth, texture.

Peanut Butter & White Chocolate Rice Krispies Treats – The combination of white chocolate and peanut butter is totally underrated. These are some stellar Rice Krispies treats!

Beer & Brown Sugar Kielbasa and Sauerkraut – I normally don’t like kielbasa or sauerkraut, but I LOVE this recipe. Totally delicious!

My great aunt used to make a rum bundt cake when we were kids, but I’ve always wanted a from-scratch version (hers uses a box mix). This looks like just the recipe!

These are super cute! They are layered orange, yellow and white – totally festive for Halloween parties!

Pear Caramel Ice Cream (Perry’s Plate)
I love pears and feel they get pushed to the side in favor of apples; this ice cream sounds magnificent and I can’t wait to try it.

Pumpkin Spice Cake with Maple Frosting (A Spicy Perspective)
What a high, decadent cake. Love! The frosting sounds out-of-this-world. This might have to grace the Thanksgiving dessert table!

Rosemary Red Bean Soup (An Edible Mosaic)
I love hearty soups, especially ones that include beans, and this is a version I have never seen before. Looking forward to trying it this winter!

    I’m new to ‘real’ baking & totally enjoy your blog. Truth be told, I sometimes (when pressed for time or sanity), resort to mixes. The butter rum cake recipe sounds yummy. Would you be willing to share you aunt’s recipe? Thanks in advance.

    I love your blog and recipes! This is also a fun candy corn cupcake to make: They are upside down cupcakes with frosting so they end up looking like an actual candy corn. Always a hit at Halloween!
