The Weekend Dish 11/23/2013
Happy weekend to you!
What are your plans for Thanksgiving? Since we are hosting here, my weekend is going to be spent doing as much prep work as possible… getting most of my groceries, making my cranberry sauces (this relish-style one and this jellied one), baking my grandma’s “Thanksgiving cookies” with my mom, and finalizing all of my to-do lists so I can knock out as much ahead of time as possible. Einstein and Duke are going to the groomer on Tuesday so they’ll be nice and fresh for company 🙂 I’m most looking forward to relaxing for a couple of days and enjoying time with our family!
As always, you’ll find a recap of what was posted to the site this week as well as some bookmarked recipes from other blogs. Enjoy!
On Brown Eyed Baker This Week
Cranberry Sorbet – A vibrant ruby red cranberry sorbet is a wonderful light dessert alternative for your Thanksgiving dinner.
Salted Caramel Apple Pie – Traditional apple pie gets a makeover with thinly sliced apples layered with homemade salted caramel sauce.
Sausage Cornbread Stuffing – Stuffing is one of my favorite Thanksgiving side dishes, and I love it even more when sausage and cornbread is in the mix!
Cranberry-Ginger Pear Pie – A fabulous pear pie with a beautiful pink hue thanks to lots of cranberries!
Friday Things – Lots of fun links, Thanksgiving prep, new cookbooks, pup pictures, and more!

What I Bookmarked This Week
Recipes and posts from other blogs that I thought looked especially delicious and that I thought you would like, too:
Chopped Brussels Sprouts Salad with Creamy Shallot Dressing (Pinch of Yum)
I’m trying really, really hard to embrace more vegetable-eating, and I found out a couple of Thanksgivings ago that I actually liked a shredded Brussels sprouts salad. This one looks phenomenal!
Fresh Cranberry Ginger Vanilla Margaritas (How Sweet It Is)
No holiday is complete without a fun drink, right? Last Christmas Eve, I whipped up these white chocolate steamers, and this Thanksgiving my sister is bringing a pitcher of autumn sangria. If you’re looking for a signature drink for Thanksgiving, this one would be perfect.
Frosted Apple Slab Pie (Tracey’s Culinary Adventures)
Slab pie has to be about the most looked-over and underrated dessert there is. This crust, this filling, and oh, that icing… I love everything about this pie!
Sourdough Skillet Stuffing (Heather Christo)
Stuffing has fast become one of my most favorite Thanksgiving dishes; I’ve never made a skillet version, but I love the idea of all of the flavors sitting together. I have no doubt that this is utterly amazing.
Sweet and Savory Cheesy Bacon Wrapped Puff Pastry Twist (Half Baked Harvest)
Having some easy appetizer recipes is essential, and this one is definitely a keeper. All I needed to see was bacon and cheese and I was sold!
What are you most looking forward to eating on Thanksgiving?
Have a delicious weekend!
