The Weekend Dish: 12/11/2010
I hope that everyone had a great week and that the first full week of December treated you well. I unfortunately got smacked with a wollop of a flu/cold thing and so my kitchen time has been pretty nonexistent. Hoping to ramp back up the holiday goodies this weekend! We’re also due for our first significant snowfall Sunday and Monday so I’m arming myself with hot chocolate, baking supplies and Christmas movies. I love winter storms 🙂
While this wasn’t posted on the main site this week, I recently watched Food, Inc. and wrote a post about it over on Unplugged. It has generated a lot of great discussion and I wanted to bring it to your attention in case you didn’t see it and wanted to check it out:
As always, you’ll find a recap of what was posted to the site this week as well as some bookmarked recipes from other blogs. Enjoy!
On Brown Eyed Baker This Week
30 Gift Ideas: Cookbooks & Kitchen Gadgets – A rundown of the year’s bestselling cookbooks and kitchen goodies. Add them to your own wish list (*wink*) or pick something up for another foodie in your life!
Chocolate Walnut Fudge – Chocolate fudge made the old fashioned way with a candy thermometer and wooden spoon. A great holiday treat!
Fig and Walnut Biscotti – Anise seed, orange zest, figs and walnuts combine to create one of my favorite biscotti recipes ever.
Homemade Hot Cocoa Mix – This makes luxurious, rich, and creamy hot chocolate. Great to keep in your pantry during the winter or to package up as a holiday gift!
Ask Me Anything – I was sick on the couch, with no new recipes, so I opened up the floor to all of your questions.

What I Bookmarked This Week
Recipes from other blogs that I thought looked especially delicious and that I thought you would like too:
Cheese Popovers (nami-nami)
I still haven’t made popovers from scratch, and these babies are calling my name!
Cranberry Orange Brie Crostini (Two Peas and Their Pod)
I love brie in any form as an appetizer for holiday meals, and paired with dried cranberries and pistachios (a favorite combo of mine), this looks perfect! Maria and Josh also recently remodeled their kitchen. Absolutely gorgeous! It could be in a magazine. You will have kitchen envy 🙂
Homemade Peppermint Patties (Savory Sweet Life)
York peppermint patties have always been a favorite candy of mine, and I can’t wait to make them at home! Alice makes it look so easy, and they’re such pretty treats!
Honey Vanilla Bean Marshmallows (Joy the Baker)
I love homemade marshmallows (they’re not even close to the store bought ones), and I think this version with honey and vanilla bean sounds outstanding.
Loaded Baked Potato Soup (Tracey’s Culinary Adventures)
I hardly ever treat myself to rich and creamy soups, but this one definitely deserves a splurge!
Hope everyone has a fabulous weekend!
