The Weekend Dish: 12/22/2012

It’s our last weekend before Christmas! Do you have all of your shopping finished, all of your baking done, and all of your presents wrapped? My answer to all three is a resounding, “No”. I’m so ashamed of myself for not being more organized this year! I have done quite a bit of baking, but I didn’t make as much as I had hoped. Plus, I didn’t start shopping until this weekend, which is a recipe for disaster. I’m planning to finish everything up today, and then start the celebrating, kicking things off at my grandparents’ with my dad’s family tomorrow, then a traditional Italian Christmas Eve dinner with my mom’s side of the family, and then Christmas day with my Chief Culinary Consultant and his family. What are your plans for the holidays? Are you trying any recipes? I hope you and your families have a wonderful and safe long holiday weekend!

As always, youíll find a recap of what was posted to the site this week as well as some bookmarked recipes from other blogs. Enjoy!

On Brown Eyed Baker This Week

A Moment of Silence – I let the blog rest on Monday as we remembered all of those affected by the shooting in CT last Friday.

Reindeer Chow – A totally addicting holiday snack – Rice Chex, Cheerios, peanuts, pretzels and M&M’s covered in white chocolate.

Cheesy Sausage Spinach Breakfast Casserole – A perfect recipe for a holiday breakfast – so hearty and delicious!

Ho Ho (Ho) Cake – One of the best cakes I have EVER made! Chocolate cake, a fluffy white filling and chocolate icing – reminiscent of Ho Ho snack cakes.

Friday Things – A lot of Christmas fun, some dog stories, a hockey picture, and more!

What I Bookmarked This Week

Recipes and posts from other blogs that I thought looked especially delicious and that I thought you would like too:

Bourbon Maple Ribs (White on Rice Couple)
Ribs aren’t exactly the type of food of I think of this time of year, but look out January 2nd, I am totally making these! They look amazing!

Chocolate-Espresso Buche de Noel (Portuguese Girl Cooks)
This has got to be one of the most beautiful desserts I’ve ever seen. It’s on my list for next Christmas!

Double Cookies and Cream Bars (chef in training)
I don’t make or eat nearly enough in the cookies n’ cream food group. These bars look fantastic!

Holiday Dulce de Leche Chocolate Bars (Pennies on a Platter)
Buttery crust, dulce de leche and lots of chocolate… what’s not to love?! Plus, a festive red and green swirl on top!

Mexican Hot Chocolate Cupcakes (The Novice Chef)
Ever since making the Mexican chocolate chile caramels earlier this year, I have fallen in love with the notion of Mexican chocolate. These look fantastic!

What was the best thing you ate this week??

Have a delicious weekend!

Happy Christmas to you, Michelle, and thanks especially for your hockey and dog photos. Still hoping to get the Ho-Ho cake done, but I have bottled the limoncello and it is delicious!

I have to make that Ho Ho Cake! Maybe even while I’m here in NC visiting family, because I don’t think I can wait long enough to get back home! Thanks for including my Dulce de Leche Bars in your round up. 🙂

Shopping is done, so is wrapping. But I did nearly all of my shopping online. It helps so much. I’m looking forward to doing a lot of baking over the next few days. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas, Michelle!

Merry Christmas Michelle and to your family as well!
I have been reading your blog for awhile now and am curious to know if your Chief Culinary Consultant is your boyfriend that I read about sometimes in your post??
