The Weekend Dish: 12/3/2011

It’s officially December! Which means twinkling Christmas lights, decorating trees, holiday programming on TV, hot chocolate, cookie baking, shopping, wrapping, and of course my super cute reindeer shirt that I have had for about 10 years now and that I insist on wearing at some point during the month of December. I also saw a few brief snowflakes fluttering around earlier this week. Still waiting on our first good snowfall, fingers crossed for a white Christmas! As you may have noticed, I started in on some holiday recipes this week, as well as a nice roundup and of course the beginning of my “12 Days of Giveaways”. I hope you enjoy the recipes as well as the goodies I have lined up for you!

As always, you’ll find a recap of what was posted to the site this week as well as some bookmarked recipes from other blogs. Enjoy!

On Brown Eyed Baker This Week

Brussels Sprout Slaw with Mustard Dressing & Maple-Glazed Pecans – A very different and amazingly delicious way to serve Brussels sprouts. Love the contrast of the tangy mustard dressing with the sweet maple-glazed pecans.

Announcing “12 Days of Giveaways” – I will be celebrating the “12 Days of Christmas” by giving away something new each week day from December 1st until the 16th. Stay tuned for the daily announcements!

75 of the Best Christmas Recipes – A roundup of some of my all-time favorite Christmas recipes – cookies, candies, and more.

Chocolate Chip Cookie & Oreo Fudge Brownie Bars – So sinful and decadent, but you should definitely add vanilla ice cream 😉

Chubby Hubby Truffles – Truffles fashioned after my favorite ice cream – peanut butter, pretzels and chocolate!

Eggnog Cheesecake Bars – Smooth, creamy, full of eggnog flavor, and with a kick of brandy. Hellooooo holidays!

Classic Gingerbread Cake – A wonderfully moist cake, packed with tons of ginger flavor and amply spiced.

Apple Coffee Crumb Cake with Brown Sugar Glaze (Two Peas and Their Pod)
I had a favorite apple cake recipe from eons ago that I can’t seem to find, but I think this will be a perfect replacement!

Caramelized Mushrooms & Dumplings (Joy the Baker)
I fell in love with this as soon as I laid eyes on it. So perfect for cold winter nights. It just feels so warm and cozy. Can’t wait to try it for dinner one night.

Cinnamon Roll Waffles (Chef in Training)
Oh.My.God. Need to make these immediately. Just because. But also, great for a Christmas morning breakfast!

Mascarpone Raspberry Trifle (Junglefrog Cooking)
This is one of the most gorgeous holiday desserts I’ve laid eyes on. I need to make it a point to try this!

Oatmeal Carmelita Bars (Bluebonnets & Brownies)
A couple of readers have asked about a recipe for these bars, and I am happy to have finally found one that looks amazing. I can’t wait to make these!

Have a delicious weekend!

Hi there! I’m not sure if it is just me, but the emails about the giveaway did not show up in my inbox. I get your other emails…in fact, The Weekend Dish is my favorite morning coffee read! i love your blog, just sending an FUI in case other people have the same problems! 🙂

Hi Stephanie, I’m not sure if you’re referring to just today or the previous two days. I did not post a giveaway today (they will run on the weekdays and resume on Monday). If talking about the previous two days, the email service I use does not send individual emails for each separate post, but rather one per day. The giveaway and the recipe are included in the same email, it would likely say something like “Eggnog Cheesecake Bars” plus 1 more… and if you scroll down in the email the giveaway post will be below it. I hope that helps!

Oh don’t feel dumb at all! And no apologies necessary! I’m happy to help 🙂

I LOVE your blog. It’s so pretty and it has great recipes. I found it via Google search engine and I subbed via e-mail since I don’t have WordPress.

Btw, your truflle recipes make me want to go make my own now.

Just wanted to let you know that your make-ahead gravy recipe was a revelation for me this Thanksgiving. I always struggle with the gravy, and to be honest the pan drippings kind of gross me out! For the first time I got compliments on my gravy. No one could believe I made it the day before using stock. I really let the onions cook for a looonng time and I think it made all the difference. Anyway, thank you SO much. Love your blog!

Here’s another apple coffee cake you should check out. It’s from the Costco Connection magazine. I made it this fall and it was incredible! I omitted the walnuts, but followed the recipe exactly other than that.

I love your blog, by the way. I find myself referring to it very often! And I made your gravy recipe the week before Thanksgiving then froze it. Genius! It tasted great, too.

Michelle, thank you so much for the link up! You’re such a sweetheart 🙂

Those Oatmeal Caramelitas are *insane*. Normally I don’t do repeats, it’s just not worth the time – but my hubby’s coworkers are begging for these again, so I’m planning to indulge them one more time for the holidays.

Chubby hubby recipe looks so delicious. Want to try those immediately!
