The Weekend Dish: 3/10/2012
Happy Saturday, folks! I am coming to you this weekend with a splash of warm Florida sun across my face. My Chief Culinary Consultant and I made the 17-hour drive from Pittsburgh over Thursday and yesterday to southern Florida, and are settled in at his parents’, ready for two weeks of Florida sun, lots of relaxing, tennis, golf (for him!), beach time, shopping, and undoubtedly an ungodly amount of conch fritters. We’re heading down to Doral tomorrow to catch the final day of action at the WGC-Cadillac Championship, which I’m looking forward to. Incidentally, if you happen to be watching and some short, pale girl with curly hair starts heckling Tiger Woods, it’s probably me. I’m embarrassed for myself already. Here’s hoping I can restrain myself! What are you up to this weekend?

On Brown Eyed Baker This Week
Chicago-Style Deep-Dish Pizza – After a couple of bust recipes, I finally found the one. An awesome deep-dish pizza recipe with buttery, flaky crust and thick, delicious sauce. It will definitely be a regular in my rotation!
Texas Sheet Cake – An all-time classic, and now armed with my great aunt’s recipe, I am happy to make it whenever the mood strikes. I’m glad she shared this cake with our family when we mourned my grandma’s passing.
Peanut Butter and Jelly Cupcakes – If I had been introduced to these as a kid, I guarantee I would have never eaten another thing. I would have been a nightmare to deal with. But I would have been in heaven 🙂
Broccoli Cheese Soup – I overcame my childhood aversion to broccoli with cheese, so it’s only natural that I eventually grew to love broccoli-cheese soup. I love this creamy, homemade version.
Candy Bar Pie – So, we have a pretzel crust, followed by layers of peanut butter, caramel, peanuts, and chocolate. This is everything good in the world, right here in a pie.

This is one of my all-time favorite desserts, dating back to my childhood years. But Jamie upped the ante here – she made this an absolutely gorgeous dessert in individual servings. I am in love with this presentation!
