The Weekend Dish: 6/2/2012

Happy first weekend of June! We’re now officially into the summer months! Last weekend was sweltering here in Pittsburgh, which makes me sort of miserable and cranky. I’m not a big fan of extreme heat and humidity. By the middle of this week, however, it was pure bliss. Mid-70’s, lots of sunshine and a breeze. If we could get that all summer, I’d be one happy camper. That’s my perfect weather forecast. Did you enjoy your long holiday weekend last week? Did you eat/grill/swim? My Chief Culinary Consultant and I enjoyed dinner with friends at Hofbrauhaus on Saturday night (love the giant Oktoberfest pretzel!), and then decided to hit the movies while it stormed on Sunday. We saw The Dictator, which was all sorts of inappropriate, but absolutely hysterical! Next on our list is The Avengers. Speaking of movies leads me to TV… has anyone else watched Hatfields & McCoys on The History Channel? We’re currently halfway through part two and oh my goodness… so, so good. If you can catch reruns or grab it On Demand, I highly recommend it!

What are your plans for the weekend?

On Brown Eyed Baker This Week

185 Favorite Summer Recipes – A roundup of some of my all-time favorite foods for the summertime.

Sticky Buns – Amazingly fluffy cinnamon rolls baked upside down in a caramel and pecan bath, which results in the most delicious, stickiest sticky buns!

Grandma’s Ambrosia Salad – A staple at family holidays, get-togethers, and during the summer, it was one of my favorite sweet treats to come out of my grandma’s kitchen.

Old-Fashioned Ice Cream Sandwiches – The classic ice cream sandwiches of our youth, made 100% from scratch. Insanely delicious!

Black Bean Salsa – A fantastic salsa full of bright and fresh ingredients; incredibly flavorful!

What I Bookmarked This Week

Recipes and posts from other blogs that I thought looked especially delicious and that I thought you would like too:

Dad’s Kitchen Sink Cookies (What’s Gaby Cooking)
I love a massive cookie with loads of add-ins! Bonus if your dad makes them!

Frozen Brownie Sundae (The Culinary Couple)
I don’t eat sundaes nearly enough. I think this dessert would more than adequately squelch my craving!

Momofuku Ooey Gooey Butter Cake Bars with Blueberries (Bakers Royale)
I have been hearing about and seeing gooey butter cakes for years now, but have never made one. This version with blueberries looks so fresh and light and perfect for summer.

Sunflower Cookies (Bake at 350)
I just adore the cookies that come out of Bridget’s kitchen, and these sunflower cookies are no exception. How perfect are they?!

Tunnel of Fudge Bundt Cake (Tracey’s Culinary Adventures)
Chocolate cake with a fudge river running through the middle, and topped with a fudge icing? You don’t have to ask me twice! Pass the vanilla ice cream!

What was the best thing you ate this week??

Have a delicious weekend!

Wow, this is the first time I’ve ever been first to comment! Everything here looks absolutely delectable. It’s 1:10PM (afternoon) here in Beijing so I can only imagine you staying up late to post this! Great job on the blog; I love visiting 🙂

It’s 1:30am and I just finished making your car bomb cupcakes for a friend’s birthday! Phew! Talk about rich! I’m glad I ate a light dinner, or all that taste-testing might’ve hurt. 😉 For this weekend I have fantastic zucchini and banana breads to make before my produce goes bad and some gardening to do. Next weekend I’ll have to give that butter bar recipe a try with some cranberries we picked last year!

Yesterday was so nice here, too, especially after sweltering last weekend. This weekend I baked pies for a wedding today, so that’s what I’ll be doing. Hope y’all have a great weekend and thanks for the update!

I have come to look forward to my cup of coffee every Saturday morning while reading The Weekend Dish. Definitely something to look forward to each weekend! I have pinned the recipes of yours from the week and am always thankful that you share what you have bookmarked. Making the black bean salsa and momofuku bars this weekend!

It was 97 here yesterday, but it’s suppose to cool off a bit, which I am glad for. It’s hard coming up with creative recipes when you don’t want to turn the stove on. You made some great recipes this week! Have a lovely weekend!

We’re having one of those 70 and sunny days here today and it is glorious! Also, after seeing a ton of people talk about it on Twitter, we’ve decided to try Hatfields & McCoys. I don’t know when we’ll get to it but hopefully sooner rather than later.

    Thanks for the mention 🙂
