The 10 Best Pie & Tart Recipes |

[We continue to update the “Top 10″ series of posts with pies and tarts!]

I LOVE pie crust. Love, love, love it! Very rarely will I turn down a slice of pie due to the sheer fact that whatever type of pie it is has layers of flaky pie crust calling my name. Once I got comfortable with making homemade pie crust, I’ve loved experimenting with all sorts of pies and tarts, including non-traditional varieties. I’ve narrowed them down and rounded up my ten favorite recipes to date!

I hope you enjoy browsing; feel free to share any recipe requests for pies or tarts you’d like to see!

Yummy looking tarts and pies. I’m not a big pie eater, but I love 3; key lime, frozen PB and chocolate and coconut creme =)

  7. sherri lynn @ life of a wife on July 25, 2011 at 11:12 am

Yum these all look great! I still want to try that frozen peanut butter pie! I might have to make it this week for my #2 birthday dessert 🙂

Do you have a good recipe for a chocolate chess pie? I had one once and LOVED it! I’d love to make my own.

  8. Kathleen on July 25, 2011 at 12:48 pm

    Love everything on this list!

  9. John Cardero on July 25, 2011 at 12:48 pm

Peanut Butter pie is my favorite pie of all time. I have never had it frozen, only chilled. I am going to have to try that. Pecan pie is my number two, but my wife made a pumpkin pecan pie once, it was to die for.

  10. linda on July 25, 2011 at 1:39 pm

    love your top tens!
i would love to see a peanut butter & chocolate tart…since i adore all your peanut butter recipes!
    thanks! 🙂

  11. Chaos Mommy on July 25, 2011 at 1:55 pm

Got any amazing lemon meringue pies? Or any twists to the typical lemon meringue, perhaps? I really love cream pies, like coconut, chocolate, and banana. Your strawberry pie is exactly how my great-aunt made hers. It was always tradition to have it at Easter every year. After she passed, no one would make it! I finally made one and made my grandma (it was her sister) cry! Good tears 😉

  12. OnSugarMountain on July 25, 2011 at 2:56 pm

That blueberry pie looks to die for!

I must say I always look forward to these “Top-Ten” Posts 🙂 such a great variety on each.

  13. Kacey on July 25, 2011 at 3:04 pm

Totally would not mind seeing a key lime pie and a lemon meringue pie or a coconut cream pie… Or a lemon tart, plum or peach tart… Heck, throw something in a crust and I will be happy!

  14. Lilly on July 25, 2011 at 3:11 pm

What a great top 10! They are all great and I wouldn’t be able to choose.

  18. Ann on July 25, 2011 at 5:43 pm

I love the pies – the pictures – the list! I would say my favorite pie is coconut cream pie – and my husband requests it ALL the time!

  19. Cookin' Canuck on July 25, 2011 at 6:23 pm

I don’t even know which one to start with – they all look so good! My all-time favorite kind of pie is lemon meringue, but I think that blueberry pie would give it a run for its money.

  20. Courtney on July 25, 2011 at 7:07 pm

I’m a huge fan of Citrus.. Lemon Meringue Pie and Key Lime pie! That apple pie looks delicious! 🙂

  21. a l on July 25, 2011 at 8:12 pm

Oh, those wonderful-looking pies immediately took me back many years to my all-time favorite, my every-year birthday dessert request. We called it 2-crust lemon pie. I have since discovered the recipe named “Slice o’ Lemon Pie.” I don’t remember it having any cinnamon added to top the crust, but do remember the egg white brushed on with sugar added.,1737,149163-244207,00.html

  22. Jenny Flake on July 25, 2011 at 9:59 pm

What a perfect line up of mouthwatering pies and tarts!!

  23. Peggy on July 26, 2011 at 5:59 am

Being from Kentucky, the classic Derby pie is definitely my favorite! A local restaurant here even goes as far as topping it with ice cream, dipping the whole thing in chocolate, and sticking a popsicle stick in the middle – a dilly bar on crack is what we call it! But oh so good =)

  24. Maria on July 26, 2011 at 10:31 am

I don’t bake pies very often. Now I want to! They all look so good!

  25. Christina @ Sweet Peas Kitchen on July 26, 2011 at 11:59 am

I too, like blueberry, peach and pecan and my husband likes your peanut butter pie! Coconut cream and key lime pie are two additional favs!

  32. Sandy on March 12, 2014 at 11:34 am

I was reminded yesterday that Pi day is coming up (3/14 = 3.14) and have an urge to make a few pies and bring them into the office. Lets see how long my ambition lasts but I am liking the Dutch Apple Pie, Frozen Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie, Pecan Pie and Pumpkin Pie.

  33. Pamela K. Truesdale on July 3, 2014 at 1:47 pm

Blackberry pie, which we’re having for the 4th.

I love pie crust – as long as it is a good one. I am a pie crust snob! Thank you for sharing a wonderful grouping of pies and tarts!

  37. Kimberly@The Little Girls Bakery on June 1, 2015 at 10:05 am

I love pie! And you’re right, the crust is always better homemade! Pecan or cherry is probably my favorite, but I have yet to try the banoffee pie!

  38. Katherine on June 1, 2015 at 10:10 am

Apple Crumb Tart! I make it at the cafe I work at and I’ve made it at home, too! The trick to making it so delicious is caramelizing the apples before I put them in the tart. Yummmy!

  39. Denise on June 1, 2015 at 12:46 pm

While I love Banana Cream, Strawberry and Cherry there is one from my childhood that you just can’t get anywhere else. My mom makes a Cinnamon Pie. Love it!

  40. Sally on June 1, 2015 at 2:08 pm

Rhubarb cream pie is my favorite, followed by peanut butter candy pie. I’d like to try the Banoffee pie.

  41. Jen on June 1, 2015 at 2:46 pm

All of these pie look delicious. I don’t know where to begin. Can I just have them all?!

  42. Fiona @ Get Fit Fiona on June 1, 2015 at 5:53 pm

The strawberry and pecan pies look amazing delicious! I’m pretty sure I’d have a piece of all of them though.

  43. A. L. on June 1, 2015 at 8:32 pm

All-time favorite, always requested for my birthday dessert…double crust lemon pie, we always called it. Top crust glazed, thin-sliced lemons in the filling. Think I’ve seen the pie called Slice o’ Lemon Pie. The best!!!

  44. Linda on June 2, 2015 at 9:08 am

You should try Pecan Cheesecake Pie. It’s pecan pie with a layer of cheesecake. You will never be able to eat plain pecan pie again!

  45. Emily on June 3, 2015 at 12:04 am

I would love to see/get a really good peach pie recipe, and lemon pie recipe with or without meringue. These look fabulous — especially the strawberry! 🙂

  46. Marne on June 5, 2015 at 11:48 am

You’ve gotta add the Red Raspberry Pie with Vanilla Custard Sauce from Pines Tavern in Gibsonia, PA. It is amazing and you can use frozen berries for it! I have it cut out from the Pittsburgh Post Gazette from years ago, but this link looks close.
