The Weekend Dish: 2/11/2017
Happy Saturday!
Do you know what today is?! Today is Brown Eyed Baker’s TENTH birthday. Whoa! Where on earth did the time go? Ten years ago today, I clumsily typed up and published a recipe for Italian wedding soup (the pictures look much better now!) and the rest, as they say, is history. It truly seems like a lifetime ago, and I’m so grateful for all of you that continue to share food and life with me! I’m dreaming up a crazy cake to celebrate and will share it here soon. In the meantime, I hope you have a fabulous weekend!
As always, you’ll find a recap of what was posted to the site this week, the most shared recipes, my Sunday dinner menu, and recipes I’ve bookmarked from other blogs. Enjoy!

Sunday Dinner Menu
Since my husband’s birthday was on Wednesday, I had him pick our menu!
What I Bookmarked This Week
Recipes and posts from other blogs that I thought looked especially delicious and that I thought you would like, too:
Last Sunday, we celebrated my father-in-law’s birthday and you may remember that there was fettuccine alfredo on the menu. I’ve tried many recipes in the past and had been underwhelmed with all of them, so I set off looking for a new one. I made this perfect homemade alfredo sauce and it was, indeed, perfect. Rich, creamy, not all runny or clumpy; it will be my go-to alfredo sauce from now on!
My husband’s birthday was on Wednesday; for dinner I made filet mignon using this cast iron cooking method, along with this creamed spinach recipe, and baked potatoes – everything was phenomenal! I will forever and always cook steak indoors using that method (so tender and juicy!), and that is TRULY the only creamed spinach recipe you’ll ever need.
This chocolate truffle cake is totally covered in chocolate flakes – it looks absolutely divine!
Looking for a festive dessert? These Valentine’s surprise high hat cupcakes are adorable.
If you know a chocoholic, make them this chocolate lover’s cheesecake immediately!
Have a delicious weekend!
So many delicious recipes!

Happy Anniversary Michelle <3 Yours was the first blog I ever found/ used! Thank you for giving me the confidence that I needed to get in the kitchen and make tasty miracles happen. I owe all of my talent to you. Thanks for sharing your recipes, your family stories, and your beautiful photos with us!
Can’t believe I made my family Italian Wedding Soup THIS weekend for the first time!
They loved it!
Thank you for all!!
Congratulations on your 10th year! I have been following your blog for about 5 years and have absolutely loved it and have enjoyed a lot of your recipes. I came across your blog while searching for bread recipes one day and decided to make your American Sandwich Bread, which has been my go to recipe. I have been hooked on your blog ever since and it has introduced me to other blogs as well. I always look forward to reading “Friday Things”. Thank you so much Michelle for sharing your recipes, tips and your lovely family!
Congrats on your 10-year blogiversary, Michelle! That’s a huuuuuuge accomplishment. I’ve only been blogging for (almost) 4 1/2 years now, but I’m going to keep trucking along and look forward to celebrating a decade of work in the future (eek).
I’m thrilled that you & your husband enjoyed my cast-iron steak technique, and thank you for sharing it with your readers. :) The last few steaks I’ve fixed have been ribeyes (the extra marbling gives it a ton fo flavor), but I bet your filets were super tender. I’ll have to give that creamed spinach a try soon, as I’ve only ever eaten it at steakhouses (believe it or not). Have a beautiful weekend! <3
My family loves creamed spinach, and I used to make it just like the recipe you highlighted—until I found an easy way to make it without the mess (wringing out the water from the cooked fresh spinach). Now we buy 3-4 packages of frozen creamed spinach, and to that we add a good amount of Locatelli cheese and a block of cream cheese. This, hands down, is the simplest and most delicious way to make creamed spinach on the go.
Congratulations on 10 years!! Thanks for sharing the wonderful links this week. I look forward to your posts and always love the ideas you share from others on Saturdays. I love Elaina’s cast iron skillet cooking method!
Congratulations on ten years, Michelle! It’s five years for me this week. I can’t believe it!
Congratulations Michelle! I’ve been an avid follower since 2008 and your blog is what opened my interest into the world of food blogs. Thank you for all your dedication, especially with your busy stage of life : )
