The Weekend Dish: 2/18/2017
Hello hello!
I hope your weekend is off to a better start than mine… I had an awful, nasty sore throat hit me like a ton of bricks yesterday, along with earache, swollen glands and the chills. I went to urgent care last night to rule out strep (it was negative), so I guess this is either going to break into a cold or is some nasty virus, ugh. I’ll be spending the day trying to push fluids down and recoup! Please tell me all the great things you have planned!
As always, you’ll find a recap of what was posted to the site this week, the most shared recipes, my Sunday dinner menu, and recipes I’ve bookmarked from other blogs. Enjoy!

Recipes and posts from other blogs that I thought looked especially delicious and that I thought you would like, too:
The next time I need a cheesy dip, I’m totally giving this queso fundido with chorizo and roasted poblanos a spin.
I’ve NEVER had taquitos, which makes me want to cry because these pulled pork taquitos look AMAZING.
Mexican tater tot casserole is total comfort food. (Can you tell I’m in a Tex-Mex state of mind this week?!)
Why have one bundt cake when you can have a double decker bundt cake!
I want this portobello mushroom galette for dinner tonight!
Have a delicious weekend!
Hi Michelle!Â
After 33 years, my oldest son tells me his favorite cake is yellow with chocolate frosting….Birthday is 3/22
(hint! hint!, Mom) Â Your top 10 cake recipes was a recent blog. However, in looking at your recipe for the frosting, you only add 1 cup of confectioners sugar? Is that correct? I could make my version of frosting but I thought I would make your entire recipe.
Thank you so much!
Love your blog….& love seeing those lil’ guys of yours! ?…..& the pup, too!Â
JaniceÂ
Hi Janice, Happy (early) birthday to your boy! That is correct, it’s more of a buttery frosting than a sugary one.
Hope you can be well soon. Hope your husband is taking care of the sweet sons.
Thank you Linda! And yes, he is, he’s the best :)
Eeeep so sorry you’re sick! I got hit with a cold on Tuesday and am still struggling with it now. That aside, I would love to enjoy those cakes the minute my tastebuds come back. They look so soft and delicious! Hope you get better soon!
I hope you’re starting to feel better. Â I don’t know how you still pull off your Sunday dinner when you are sick. Â On that note, the menu for this week looks so yummy. Â Are any of those recipes on your site and if not, wouldn’t you mind sharing them?Â
Thanks!Â
Hi Marla, We actually ended up canceling dinner this week. I felt so awful on Saturday and Joseph is still sick, so we nixed having everyone over.
As for the menu, yes! Sorry, I usually do link, but ugh, sick brain! Here are links to the soup and meatloaf:

I am so sorry you are so sick. Â However, you are so sweet to still take the time to respond. Â Thank you so much. Â Please take care and get well. Â
Your boys are sooo cute. Sorry to hear that you are not feeling very good. Hope you get better. So far, my week is dull. I live in Southern California and we had a lot of rain with wind, which normally I do not get in my area. Also, my electricity went out at 5:30 pm PST until 2:00 am PST. I put some candles around and had just charged my e-reader. So, I was able to read during the evening. Hopefully, we will not have any rain for awhile. Take care.
Could be the flu/influenza. It has those symptoms and hits like a ton of bricks. We got the flu vaccine but our household has influenza  this week, It’s horrid! Hope you feel better soon!Â
It really does feel like the flu, except that I’m not really running a fever, it’s just been in the 99’s. I got the flu vaccine as well, but there are so many strains, it’s crazy!
Everything looks so good!Â
I hope you had a lovely week. x

I am so sorry to hear that you have that virus-y type of sore throat, etc. Â I had that exact same thing a couple of weeks ago. Â Horrible sore throat for a few days then overnight went into my head for a couple of days. Â After that, it was like I had not been sick 1 day. Â Hope it’s the same for you. Â Wasn’t enough to knock me down, but sure did put me “under the weather” for the better part of a week. Â Hoping you get some rest and that the boys don’t get it. Â XO
Thanks so much for linking to my tater tot casserole! :)
Hope you feel better soon…I came down with swollen glands, a stuffy noses and sore muscles on Tuesday and have been sick since then! I’m on an antibiotic but it’s taking forever to feel normal again. Enjoy relaxing.
I made the taquitos last week and they are SO GOOD!!
Thank you for doing what you do. I find myself always coming back to your site. I know I can trust your recipes to always be delicious!!
Have a great weekend:)
Sorry to hear your under the weather Michelle. Me and my family are still recovering from the same type of horrible cold that hit us 2 1/2 weeks ago : (
Nearly at the end of my first week doing a whole 30 again but as soon as I’m done I think I’ll be making the chicken dumplings you blogged about the yesturday.
Hope you get some rest this weekend ; )
