Friday Things
1. Isabelle had her 6-month checkup this week and is growing so well! She’s 81st percentile in height, 59th in weight, got all of her shots, and handled being way, way overtired like an absolute champ. She is just such an incredible little love of a baby.
2. BUT! This past Monday I decided to take all three of the kids to the grocery store for the first time. It was… not a great idea. I had taken Isabelle on her own before, and she did fine, but for whatever reason this time she screamed bloody murder every.single.time I stopped pushing the cart. Joseph and Dominic kept asking why she was crying and Joseph kept saying, “I think maybe we should go home” lolololol. ME TOO, BUDDY.
This is much better picture of all three kiddos from Dominic’s birthday party last weekend :)
3. Joseph is going on his first field trip today! I’ll report back next week, but if you ever want to catch sneak peeks of my everyday and things with the kids, be sure to follow me on Instagram and check out my stories!
4. We are currently going through a sibling angst stage with Joseph and Dominic – they fight over who does something first, who sits where, bicker over toys, and IT.IS.EXHAUSTING. Yesterday, I was getting lunch and my husband was giving Isabelle a bottle and the boys were in the playroom and it was quiet, which is rare and suspicious. Then Joseph called out and said, “Mommy! Come look at this!” When I went over, I found both of them sitting next to each other and in the middle was a huge tower they had built with picasso tiles (one of Dominic’s birthday gifts). I could almost hear angels singing, but seriously it was such a wonderful breath of fresh air!
5. How are you saving things you love online these days? Still browser bookmarks? Pinterest? Facebook? Some time of “read it later” app?
6. After being 85 degrees on Wednesday, the 10-day forecast is finally ALL in the 50’s. Which means no more profuse sweating getting kids in and out of the car while running three thousand errands, and it also means I can finally, FINALLY pack away everyone’s summer clothes. I hate staring at messy, bursting-at-the-seams closets, so I am ridiculously excited to get everyone’s closets in order.
7. If you listen to podcasts, what app or podcast subscriber thing (I’m very technically savvy, obviously) do you use? There are a few I listen to, but I always end up going from emails or websites and it would be nice if I could have all of the ones I want to listen to in one spot and instantly see if there are new episodes. I know, I am approximately eight years behind the rest of the Internet.
8. One of my favorite game day dips >> Slow Cooker Spicy Beef Queso Dip
9. What cookbooks are on your wish list? I just put new ones from Ina Garten, Tiffani Thiessen, Chrissy Teigen and Reese Witherspoon on my list!
10. TGIF! I tried to stretch on the floor the other night before bed, but Duke decided he’d rather have a snuggle session and a personal pillow :)
I use Overcast for my Podcasts after my son told me about it. Way better than the app that comes with the iPhone.
Yes, Overcast is much better than the app on the iPhone.
As our 3 (now adults but about the same number of years apart and same gender as your three little darlings) got old enough to understand, we rotated weeks on the calendar. When you were in charge, you got the first pick of EVERYTHING!!!! Eliminated arguments and taught kindness at the same time -the old do unto others routine.
If you go to npr.com (or .org, I can’t recall which one) you can download to your iPhone to the podcast app. I love Stuff You Missed in History Class. It’s fun and interesting. And it can be automatically updated whenever there is a new one and you can look for previous podcasts.
Here’s the Obedience School commercial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lxAU0DFw-84
I use Overcast for podcasts! I used to use the Apple Podcast app, but I had a lot of trouble with it syncing incorrectly with my computer, so I switched to Overcast. I like it a lot!
I hear you on going to the grocery store with multiple kids (I have 4). My biggest suggestion? Babywearing. Most babies will calm down when you’re wearing them and you have more cart space! Look for a carrier with good back support and a nice, wide base. If Isabelle is sitting independently you can even do a back carry.
That is too funny about your boys fighting over where to sit – My “boys” are 28 and 30 and they would still have a fisticuff over who gets to sit in the front seat if we all go somewhere together. Boys!!!
Glad to hear I can look forward to them outgrowing the bickering ;-)
The picture of your three kids at Dominic’s party is sweet. Your life certainly has changed in the 5 years you have been married! I can’t imagine the energy and organization it must take to manage three children under the age of four years…as well as two big furry children!
Speaking of furry children, have you seen any of the Subaru “dog family ” commercials? There is a whole new batch of them. My favorite is the mom…a yellow Lab and dad…a Golden…dropping their puppy child off to his/he first day of obedience school. I don’t know who trains these dogs but seriously, they seem to have near human expressions. I would imagine you could find all of the commercials at the Subaru website if you have not seen them yet.
Have a great weekend clothes sorting!!
I haven’t seen the new commercials! The older ones are so amazing, I’ll have to check them out on their website or YouTube, thanks for the heads up! :)
For #5, I still bookmark stuff I want to read when browsing on my laptop if I don’t have time when I click on the article/post. Most of what I read though comes in email form though – so I usually click the link through the email whenever I have time. Then I can delete the email and read the article. For sites I visit regularly though, I bookmark (like yours).
#7, I don’t listen to podcasts much but iPhone has a native Podcast app that I’ve used once or twice. Not sure how it compares to any other app but it’s a place to start.
I use the Podcasts app on my iPhone too. If you click on the “subscribe” button for each of your favorite podcasts, you’ll be notified when new episodes become available.
There is a podcast app! It’s great!
I have Ina Garten’s new cookbook on advanced order. Can’t wait until it arrives. I have every one of her cookbooks. They do not disappoint!
I’ve also pre-ordered Ina’s newest (I have all of hers, too) and I’m thinking about Reese Witherspoon’s, but I’ll probably pass on the other two. I “looked inside” Tiffani Thiessen’s and there wasn’t much that interested me.
Ahhh good to know Sally! I haven’t seen her show, but I was so blown away by Chrissy Teigen’s that now I have high expectations for other “celebrity” cookbooks, ha!
I have an android phone and use Podcast Addict app for listening. The app has a search function and has lists of podcasts you can subscribe to. With the refresh function you can see if there are new episodes. I am very happy with the app although it it not one you hear about.
There is that saying there are no bad dogs just bad owners
You are living proof of that…your doggies are lovely because you just love them and they know it
Just adore your site..you are so about things that make me happy
Awwww xo :)
Your kids are adorable! Dominic and Isabelle look SO much alike! I love the dog pictures you post at the end of every Friday Things;…in a way, bittersweet for me as we had to say goodbye to our 14-year-old Lab 6 weeks ago. Please keep the those pics coming; they bring a smile to my face :)
Aww Megan, I am so sorry for your loss, I know how much that heartbreak hurts. And yes, Dominic and Isabelle look SO much alike (so much like my husband!). At their appointments on Wednesday, the nurse even commented how she couldn’t get over how much they looked like each other!
Overcast is a great app for podcasts.
You’re a brave woman trying to take 3 kids to the grocery store st one time!
The sibling bickering is definitely exhausting. My kids would fight over the other one looking out their car window: “he’s looking out my window, tell him to look out his window!”
Hope you have a great weekend! Made another batch of your slow cookers mac & cheese this week again, & your sweet & sour chicken will be part of our Sunday dinner, can’t wait!
Oh gosh, the car window! That’s so funny (but not funny)… so awesome to hear you’re enjoying the mac and cheese. Hope you enjoy the sweet and sour chicken!
Oh my gosh, my brothers and I were totally like this, I was first in the peanut butter, I called the front seat first, everything and I mean everything was a competition! 😳 and looking out each other’s windows in the car was an issue, too. My poor parents. Perhaps it was the close age range, 3 years for 3 children, of course we were competitive. Good luck to you, Michelle
Awwww …. Duke is the best! so sweet. (ps. The kids are cute too! ;-) )
