Friday Things #407
1. These three make my heart so very happy ❤️️
2. If you use a Mac computer, do you use Safari or Chrome for your browser? I used Safari for the longest time, then switched to Chrome, and am now thinking of going back to Safari. Let me know which one you use and why!
3. I can’t believe this coming week begins Lent already! I’m ready to go all-in on the local fish fry every Friday, but before that… do you have anything planned for Fat Tuesday? My paczki are always a big hit!
4. This post on how moms don’t stop moving made me wish even harder that they would stay little for just a little bit longer!
5. Are you making anything special for Valentine’s Day on Sunday? I’m still mulling it over!
6. If you haven’t made this month’s Bake-Along recipe yet (Red Velvet Cheesecake!), this weekend would be a perfect opportunity!
7. Love this >> Three Practices to Celebrate Your Day
8. Did you watch the Super Bowl? We are truly living in strange times when this Pittsburgher rooted for Tom Brady 😂
9. What are you watching right now? We are only a few episodes from finishing Star Trek: The Next Generation and will be ready to move on to something else!
10. TGIF! Judith always keeping an eye on the neighborhood 😍
2.) Yes, Mac from way back in the day; Firefox – much more secure, and highly customizable.
3.) I gave up religion for Lent.🤣I am just so utterly disgusted with ALL the varieties of corruption, inequities, and false religion from folks and preachers who call themselves “Christian.” Plus I have numerous fundamental problems with the ideologies, dogma, and history of the Church, and the OT.
5.) Nope.
6.) You ~may~ have me hooked!
7.) That’s nice. I prolly won’t remember it. But for the most part, I’m satisfied with the way my life is going.
8.) Nope. Don’t own a teevee (and by choice, haven’t for many years) and don’t care for sports.
9.) Man… I’m CRAZEE for Netflix’ Spanish productions “La Casa de Papel,” (literally, the house of paper, or “paper house”) Anglicized title as “The Money Heist,” and “Unauthorized Living.” BOTH ARE SUPERIOR in EVERY WAY to American teevee dramas – acting, story-telling, cinematography, etc. LCDP was initially set to be a 1-season series, but due to immense demand, morphed into several years – 4 now, I think. Story involves a heist of the Spanish national bank/treasury where Euros are printed, and the complexities of the characters as they develop the story, with its numerous twists, turns, and switchbacks. It is LITERALLY Shakespearean in quality of story-telling. If you liked Breaking Bad, you’ll FLIP for La Casa de Papel!! Unauthorized Living is the story of a somewhat-benevolent aging Spanish narcotrafficker who is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, and the complexities of characters, their relationships with others, which is punctuated with unexpected duplicities, sub-plots, and more. Altogether, VERY ENJOYABLE viewing!! English subtitles, and overdubs are available – though I prefer the subtitles, to hear the passion in the characters’ dialogue.
10.) Queenie’s RIGHT REAR leg is healing quite nicely following ACL repair surgery a couple weeks ago.
I have a Mac for work and for personal use. I use Mozilla Firefox on both.
I have both Safari and Chrome but only use Safari. When you went to Chrome your Blog stopped coming to me. I miss it so much.. Happy to hear you might go back to Safari. .
Defending Jacob on Apple TV plus
Hi! I’ve used both FireFox and Chrome. Interestingly, I like Firefox more on my laptop and Chrome more on my iPad. I don’t like Safari. May be a good idea to look at some articles from computer sites (CNET comes to mind) regarding the privacy features of Safari vs. Firefox vs. Chrome. I think last year the computer journalists were saying that Firefox had stronger protections. Regarding desserts for this weekend – we’re celebrating some birthdays at work on Monday and a coworker requested strawberry cheesecake bars. Love your Friday and Saturday posts and your website. Thanks for all your hard work!
I am a Mac user. I use Firefox and like it a lot.
On another note, anyone else going crazy with Mail since the most recent update to Big Sur? I realize I should probably use something different, I just haven’t researched it enough to make the change.
I steer clear of Chrome or any Google products. I am not into having my data collected and sold. I know they have to make their money somehow but prefer it not be a part of it To that end, I also use DuckDuckGo for the search engine. It works just as well IMO.
So sweet how your kids enjoy being together.
Miss Judith could be a doggie model with her amazingly gorgeous fur coat. What a nice picture of what beautiful doggie she is, and Duke is gorgeous too of course.
Hope you and family have a wonderful Valentine’s Day. 💕
I’m a Mac user and always use Chrome, because of its integration with all the google apps (which I use).
Also, your note about mulling over V-day dinner makes me wonder, are you still hosting Sunday family dinners?
My brother and I are most of the way through a show called Mushishi. It’s a calm episodic anime with a beautiful art style that explores a world where creatures called mushi coexist with humans, sometimes helping, sometimes hurting. It follows Ginko, a mushi expert, as he travels around using his expertise to help people. It’s not always happy, there is definitely a body count, but it’s very intentional about how it uses its darkness. Mushishi’s world feels real, the people Ginko meets have personality and varied motivations, and Ginko doesn’t always triumph just because he’s the protagonist. It’s very refreshing. We’re watching it subbed on Hulu, and enjoying it so much that I had to mention it. :)
Neither… Firefox!
We enjoyed Firefly Lane. Not that it was ‘great’, but definitely entertaining. We are also on a PBS Masterpiece jag these days…can’t go wrong with any of them!
I use DuckDuckGo as my browser and I love it. No ads trying to sell me things that I’m not interested in buying, more privacy, easy to get rid of your history. You can also try Brave, another browser that doesn’t data-mine you.
Just finished watching Our Boys on HBO Max. Gomorra, also on HBO Max, was fantastic. Last Tango in Halifax (Netflix) is entertaining. You might enjoy The Expanse (Prime) or Snowpiercer (Netflix?) if you like sci-fi. One of my favorite shows was Money Heist.
We loved Poldark , and The Undoing . both the best . Yellowstone kind of violent but great story line!!
Michelle,
I just want you to know how very much I enjoy all your recipes and especially all the sweet comments and pics of your precious kids! I am a Mac user and I have always used Safari but in the past year or so a lot of things for some reason won’t support Safari and I had to add Chrome. I will tell you I am not a big fan of Chrome because it seems so different and you as humans we don’t like change. lol
Happy Valentine’s Day to you and your sweet family.
Teresa McClennen
We’re watching All Creatures Great and Small as the episodes are released every Monday after they’re aired on PBS Sunday night. (We have the Masterpiece subscription on Amazon Prime and it has been fantastic.) Such a great show! My mom has also been watching Miss Scarlet and the Duke, but I haven’t started that one yet. She’s really enjoying that, too.
i have been watching all creatures great and small too and i am surprised but u really like it!
We enjoyed both of these too! We are now watching The Long Song, also good and Sanditon (verdict still out on whether I would recommend it). Love our PBS app and all things Masterpiece!!!
First of all I love your blog. I’ve been following you way before you were married. Just love seeing pictures of the children. I have a great nephew who will be 3 on April 3 just a few days before your daughters. Anyway I love my Macs. I have a desk top and a laptop and use Safari on both. Safari has worked fine for me and I will stick with it.
I’m currently watching Unbelievable on Netflix and Big Sky on Hulu. Both are good!!
OH NO. This Pittsburgher could NOT root for Brady – no way. Just NO. Watched the first couple of possessions for each team and then had to find something else to watch. 👎🏻.
On the other hand, the red velvet cheesecake looks like a real winner! Love your FRIDAY things posts! 😄
I’m with you Maryann. Root for Brady…nope, no way, not ever.
That boy cheated waaaay too many times.
Other things…Judith…you are just so huggable!!
Prefer Firefox. Not big on Chrome *shrug* Fish Fry Fridays…best thing about Lent!!
Here here! I’m a Steeler fan – hate to see Brady win.
You should try Edge Chromium for your browser.
The kids are looking great as usual! I have no real plans for Valentines Day – we are expecting a super cold record breaking day so my plan to go out are up in the air. I will be having the usual on Fat Tuesday – beignets, gumbo, and a muffaletta.
I was wondering who you would be rooting for in the Super Bowl and now I know. I am sure you are not the only fan of many a team negatively impacted by TB12’s extraordinary talents. I live in N.E. and the past 20 years have unbelievable for sure. I was sad to see him go but knew he really needed to for so many reasons. I have followed his journey in Tampa and honestly, had some doubts about his success there. That all faded once the Buccs made the playoffs. I was not surprised he earned a 7th ring but I was surprised the game was so one sided. Let’s see if he can do in Tampa what he did in 2003/2004 with the Pat’s…back to back Super Bowl wins.
Have a great weekend with those three little cuties.
On my mac, my favorite browser is firefox. I’ve just found so many sites to be less glitchy (which they are more and more lately in safari) in firefox, without the “big brother” worries of using chrome.
Also, do you have a recipe for fried haddock? Just curious.
Thanks!
I mostly use Safari on my Macbook Pro, but have Chrome installed for the few times I find something that doesn’t play nicely with Safari. Also — fish fry! I grew up in Wisconsin where fish fry is a staple all year long. Now I live “away”, and fish fry means a very different meal. Your comment on fish fry for lent has me missing my Wisconsin home.
Hi Michelle,
I use FireFox as my browser on my Apple products. It has a lot more protections than Safari or Chrome!
I use DuckDuckGo for privacy.
GM Michelle!
I use Safari. I never switched as I feel it is less invasive (probably not, but that’s the way I feel). I have Chrome on my computer in case I need it for those accounts that don’t play nice with Safari – there aren’t very many. One of my sons is in New Zealand and he uses VPNs a lot; the other one uses DuckDuckGo. Both are Mac users. Safari has a private window option which I haven’t tried yet, but know that I should.
Hi, love your blog! I prefer chrome over safari. Safari for some reason will all of a sudden close out without warning the tabs I have opened. I tend to leave numerous tabs open for various reasons and there is no rhyme or reason to when or why this will happen. I don’t have this problem with chrome.
Re shows: my husband starting watching the original NCIS series on Netflix, & I’ve gotten in to it as well. The storylines are interesting, & they do a good job of having you get to know the characters by seeing their personal lives too. Have you watched it?
Hi, Michelle. I have both Chrome and Safari installed on my MacBook, and I use them for different things. I use Safari probably 90% of the time, but if I notice a website just isn’t loading correct I use Chrome. There is a planning tool on the IKEA site specifically that only works in Chrome, for example. But they are both safely installed on my computer with no issues. No need to choose one or the other. Thanks for all your work on this site! I use and love many recipes here!
Hi Michelle, do you have an easy recipe for long rolls and french bread
Thanks, love your recipes.
Hi Shirley, I have’t yet, but have been working on them!
