Welcome to the New BEB!
Happy December! That snuck up quickly, didn’t it?
If you’ve visited the site since Monday, you likely noticed that BEB got a serious facelift!
A huge thank you to Lindsay from Purr Design for another fabulous job on taking my vision for a new-and-improved site and making it a reality. Not only does it look prettier, but there were a lot of improvements made behind the scenes to ensure that the site is running at tip-top shape, making it a better experience for all of you.
There are quite a few new bells and whistles that I think you’re going to like, so let’s take a little tour! :)
On the Homepage
See those three big pretty images? I’ll be able to hand pick featured recipes for you! They will likely be seasonal recipes and will give me the ability to showcase some older favorites you may not have seen before.
You’ll always see the eight most recent posts right on the homepage so you won’t miss a thing! In addition, you can click that “view the blog” link in the upper right to be taken to a chronological listing of all posts.
Right below the most recent posts will be a section of featured recipe categories for you to browse. These will also be switched out periodically based on what I think you will be most interested in browsing (right now there are cookie recipes, slow cooker recipes, and more!)
These are easy links to some of the main content areas of Brown Eyed Baker (more on that shop page below!).
Trending Right Now
In the sidebar, you’ll now be able to see which recipes are currently the most popular. I love this, as it changes throughout the day! Also in the sidebar will be some seasonal recipes, and I plan to add a couple more boxes like these to highlight additional popular recipes.
If you are at the top of a new post and you just want to get to the recipe without having to read through the post, simply click “skip to recipe” and, poof – magic!, you’ll be taken right there. You can also click “print recipe” to load a printable version of the recipe.
Easy Pins and Sharing
Easily pin any photo to Pinterest by just hovering over the image and clicking the Pin It button in the top right corner. There will also be a fixed sharing bar as you scroll through the post so if you decide to save or share it to your favorite social media, you won’t need to scroll the whole way to the bottom to do so.
This might be one of my favorite new features! One of the most common pieces of feedback I receive is that people wish they could just easily comments from readers who have actually made the recipe, as well as if there was already a question asked that has been answered. Folks, it’s here! When you leave a comment, you can now select if it’s a general comment, if you’ve made the recipe and want to leave a review, or if you have a question that you need answered. Then in the comments section, there are tabs that will allow you see all of the comments, or just view reviews or questions.
I. LOVE. THIS. (and I hope you will, too!)
This is another very favorite feature that I think you’re going to like. If you click on “Shop” in the menu at the top of the page, you will be brought to this page, where I include all of my favorite items – kitchen essentials, cookbooks, even home and beauty items. I am still working on populating this page, so check back often, as there will continue to be new things added.
That’s not all!
Often times I’m asked for recommendations on exactly what type of equipment I used for a particular recipe, or maybe where I got a particular ingredient. Now I can share that information with you easily! Underneath each recipe you’ll see a list of equipment and/or specialty ingredients that I used, along with a link so you can save or purchase it yourself.
I’m so thrilled about this functionality!
Work in Progress
As with all things techie and new, there are bound to be some kinks here and there. I’m continuing to tweak and update content, so please let me know if you run across any broken links or other issues as you navigate through the new site.
A great big thank you for your patience this week as we got the site rolled out. I hope you enjoy the new look and find the new features super helpful and useful. Take a few minutes to poke around and do some browsing! If you usually read new content in your email, head on over to the homepage and take a peek :)
