Friday Things
1. Joseph is 5 months old today! Can you believe it?! These months are just flying by! Last Friday, however, was a long day with a lot of tears… Joseph cut TWO teeth! His two bottom middle teeth cracked through the gums (they were bleeding! I didn’t know there would be bleeding!) and are working on getting the whole way up. Right now they look like little white nubs and it’s still a bit hard to see them when he smiles. I can’t wait to snap a picture of a big toothy grin!
2. Last year sometime, I asked for recommendations on to-do list apps… I ended up liking Wunderlist the best, but at the time still couldn’t get totally on board with making lists on my phone, so I used it for other house-related lists, but kept my daily to-do lists in a notebook. Fast forward to the past few weeks, and something has apparently clicked because I’m all-in on this list app. I love that it has a web interface as well as an app, so I keep it open on my computer all day and click things off, and it automatically syncs with the app. So, when I lay down in bed and suddenly remember something that needs to get done, I can grab my phone and jot it down. I’m loving it!
3. Practical Tips I’ve Learned from Watching Ina Garten at the Gym [The Kitchn] – Ina Garten is awesome, she’s totally my kitchen soul mate.
4. How to Ruin Your Life (Without Even Noticing You Are) [Thought Cataglog] – So many good points, especially the whole check box thing… I was a slave to that in my 20’s and it was so freeing to finally realize that it’s totally counterproductive.
5. I mentioned a couple of weeks ago that I was looking into doing the Whole30 to get back on track since having Joseph and I decided to jump in! Not only do I have some pregnancy weight left to lose, but I also needed a bit of a reset on my eating habits… I constantly graze and will grab saltines with pb&j and call it a meal. I’ve been pretty lacking in the protein and vegetables department, so I’m hoping to revamp those habits. When I talked about it previously, many of you expressed interest in seeing me write about it… I wouldn’t make it main blog content, but could nestle it in another page on the site that you could read if you’d like. Yay or nay?
6. Thanks to everyone for the movie recommendations last Friday! We watched two movies over the weekend: Fury (we were pretty “meh” about it, even though we both tend to like war-themed movies) and The Judge (we both LOVED this one, such a great movie, highly recommend!).
7. Did you watch the Game of Thrones season finale? I pretty much hated the whole thing. I won’t post any spoilers in case you haven’t gotten to your DVR yet, but… bleh.
8. Speaking of Game of Thrones, this video of the cast hanging out and Jon Snow singing “Wild Thing” is kind of awesome.
9. The NHL and NBA finals wrapped up this week and I got one of the two results that I was hoping for – I’m bummed that Tampa didn’t win the Cup, but thrilled that the Warriors won!
10. TGIF! These handsome dudes got groomed this week and they’re so fluffy!
THANK YOU MICHELLE! Wunderlist has been the most amazing app I’ve ever put on my phone! I used to carry a Filofax but have been trying to go paperless for a while now…but I had all these lists that I couldn’t live without. Now I’m putting them in Wunderlist on my computer and syncing to my ‘droid phone and it’s awesome to have my lists with me when I want them without lugging my Filofax along! Thank you for mentioning this app in your blog – I wouldn’t have found it otherwise. Love all your posts and stories!
I’d also like to read about your Whole 30 experience and recipes used. Since most of your regular blog content isn’t compatible with Whole 30, I’d like to see it be the main content – unless you have 30 days worth of posts ready to go.
Good for you doing Whole30.com I am curious B will change you. . .Buy the Amber teething necklace for Jospeh. I didn’t believe in it, until we tried it. Or let him suck on ice that you hold with a towel.
I would love to hear about your whole 30 journey. I am thinking about doing it too. I am eating way too many sweets right now.
I would love to see what you are eating. Or any tips. I am trying 21 day fix eating plan (not the workout, not the shakes). I have a friend that says it helped her relearn portion sizes after baby. So I vote yay!
I would LOVE to see what you’re eating for Whole30. I did it last summer and felt SO much better. I did really well when my husband wasn’t home, but it was harder for him to realize that potatoes shouldn’t be the basis of a meal.
Potatoes are allowed now!
Hello – Wanted, last weekend, to tell you about The Judge, but being so much further down the road in age from you (grandchildren time), I thought you may prefer something more youthful. Was surprised to see that was ONE that you and husband watched and liked. I just saw it last week myself and loved it! Anything with Robert Duvall is fine with me! Don’t remember how I came to your blog, but do appreciate everything about it so much. Your son is a beauty and how pleasing every day must be for you and your husband to have him. The dogs are simply gorgeous and you do take such good care of them. How lucky they are to have you and yours to spend their lives with.
Have done many of your recipes and they all worked. Thanks for all the effort you put into making this so worthwhile and informative, and ENJOYABLE!
Joseph is so adorable! Sorry the little guy was in pain because of his teeth. My niece has a mesh feeder for her baby girl that she puts frozen watermelon in when she is teething. The baby loves it! Soothes her gums and tastes good at the same time.
Love Ina! Loved The Judge, too. I would be interested in you sharing the Whole 30. Have a great weekend!
Sign me up for Whole30
Joseph is adorable.
Yay on the Whole 30 sharing! I just finished my first Whole 30 and I found it a great way to get rid of my sugar cravings. Honestly, I didn’t find it too difficult to stick to. My only issues were the in-between meal snacking – I had a few snacks, but anything I ate or drank for the 30 days were compliant. I see myself continuing to eat according to their guidelines, with some occasional treats, but I plan on doing another true Whole 30 without the between-meal snacks.
I hope Joseph’s teeth don’t cause him too much more discomfort – they make mesh feeders that you can put ice cubes, frozen fruit, frozen breastmilk, etc. into and they can chew away… while soothing their gums.
I saw your #4 and thought, “Why on earth would she want to watch Ina Garten work out? And since when does Ina Garten do fitness shows??” (Great tips though, when I clicked over to the article).
Joseph is adorable, as usual – 5 months! Almost seems impossible! Yeah, teething ain’t purty!
Absolutely YAY on the Whole30!
We loved The Judge, too – great show. We haven’t watched many movies yet this summer, so that was a nice change. I watched GoT finale. They had to finish it all out for the season, which they did, so I had no problem with it. I do hope, however, that they give us some substance next season.
Those boys do look fluffy! You guys have a great weekend!
So sorry about cute little Joseph and having such a hard time with those teeth. My two never bled at all. Makes you want to cry to see a little one bleed at all.
I agree…please share your Whole30 experience – I’m hoping it will help to motivate me…lol..I haven’t seen the GoT finale yet but I do know what happens from the books – and my sister who is a huge fan of the books- and while I’m not surprised by how it ended – I have no idea where GRR is going to go with the books from here and I think the series is going to go off on it’s own path because the next book won’t come out until after the next season has already aired – sigh…I have all of the Outlander episodes to watch next so that will be what I spend the rest of this summer on…oh and the last season of Hell on Wheels….
I’d love to hear about your Whole30 experience. I’m thinking about doing it, too. My daughter went on it and said she never felt better. It was amazing how her Rosacea cleared up and she lost considerable weight.
I love your Friday things! I just watched the GoT video, you need to watch the full version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zs7xO5P3Az4 Hilarious!
I’d love to read about your whole 30 journey! I recently did it back in March and found that reading lots of others’ blog posts about their journeys really inspired me to do it. It was hard to do, but it helped me lose the last of my baby weight from both pregnancies (as I carried 5 extra into the second). I was having no luck with limiting calories and exercising a lot, and so whole 30 really helped me kick start my weight loss, and so far I’ve kept it all off plus lose more, even with only eating mostly healthy now (like I did before doing it).
I always look forward to your Friday Things posts! I’ve made bunches of your recipes, (whiwhich is evident in my waistline) but Fridays are my favorite. I don’t work on Fridays, so it just starts my weekend off perfectly. My husband and I are planning to start the Whole30 soon. I’m making my way through the book since I’ll be the main food prepper/organizer! I think it would be great if you blogged about your experiences with it. I’ve still got to catch up on latest Game of Thrones season. I’m reading The Outlander books at the moment and they really compete with my TV time! Happy Friday!
So very much interested in the Whole30 when you mentioned it before that I have ordered the book. Excited for it to come. Love to hear your comments on it.
So surprised Joseph had bleeding when his two teeth came through. Never heard of that before. Seldom heard of two at a time! Poor little guy, he must have been in misery.
I would love to hear about your eating habits revamp! We did a clean eating challenge and I have continued to eat “pretty clean” and I just feel so much better! I can’t wait to hear about it!
I would love to read about your Whole30 experience! I’ve been thinking about it as well!
Michelle – You always find the best GOT videos! I loved the Jon Snow sings Wildling. PERFECT. I’m going back to read the books now because I don’t want to wait ten more months until the next season. :p
