Friday Things
1. The front window is currently Joseph’s favorite place to play… he pulls himself up on the window sill and turns and slams the crank. He always has a look of intense concentration on his face, which is so adorable. My husband snapped this picture of Duke standing next to him and captioned it, “planning their escape”. So perfect.
2. I absolutely need this envelope addressing stencil! While I have neat handwriting, it always ends up running downhill… perfect timing since Christmas cards are just around the corner (!!).
3. My husband snapped this picture of the sunrise from our deck a couple of weeks ago, and I just love looking at it… so warm and peaceful. We’ve had some great views lately… before the sun came up earlier this week, the clouds were glowing pink, so pretty!
4. This is an awesome food guide for Thanksgiving – I’m never sure how many side dishes to make. Although, we make WAY more turkey than this… I typically use the turkey calculator from Butterball to figure out what we need.
5. On Sunday, my husband noticed that Duke was paying particular attention to a tree out in the woods behind our house – staring and looking a little agitated. He finally saw something move, and saw that there were THREE raccoons wayyyy up in the tree. I was able to snap a few pictures with my telephoto lens:
Then, a few days later, I read this story about a pet raccoon and while NO THANK YOU, the pictures are hilarious.
6. I shared a little list about some of the best ways to use baking soda (other than baking chocolate chip cookies).
7. This Craiglist post from an older gentleman looking for a woman he met in the rain in 1972 is amazing… I hope he finds her.
8. The hockey season started this week and I could not be happier! I love reading this article every year on the opening day of hockey season: There’s Still Something About Hockey. If you’re a hockey fan, I think you’ll like it!
9. What have you been watching lately? I’m so happy that Homeland is back, and thought the season premiere was great. We’ve also been watching The Muppets, which I LOVE. It appears to be styled after The Office, which is kind of hysterical.
10. TGIF! These pups are now super aware of Joseph’s every move and they’re always looking out for him. They’re the best :)
Joseph is so lucky to have two great buds with him all the time. What a bunch of cutie pies!
I love the pictures of Joseph and the dogs! My son used to stand by the window for hours playing with little wooden cars on the window sill. Your picture brought back great memories.
Awesome photos all around! I always love your Friday Things posts…the interesting little tidbits and info you share is great!
I recently stumbled upon your blog looking for a recipe (for the life of me I can’t remember what it was) and have become a regular reader since. I love reading the background to your recipes – family stories etc and your dogs! I have a golden Lab and she is brilliant.
The letter stencil is a wonderful idea, I did some googling and found this: https://thepostmansknock.com/diy-envelope-stencil-for-perfect-spacing/
Easy to make one at home!
Sending thanks for providing great recipes and wonderful life stories all the way from New Zealand!
Love the picture of Duke and Joseph looking out the window! I just ordered the envelope addressing stencil. And I’m glad you love The Muppets! My daughter works on the show, so I’m excited when I hear that people like it! :)
“The great escape” is priceless!! I always say every little boy needs a dog in his life. We got our first dog – she was 1/2 Golden 1/2 Lab and looked like a black Golden – when our son was in 4th grade. He loved her, as we all did, but he was SO protective of her. We had her until he was a sophomore in college. Our Golden now is so much like our first dog was. Love your Goldens; they will be Joseph’s best pals since he’s growing up with them.
I just ordered that very same envelope address stencil yesterday! I can’t wait to get it. My son and 1 of my daughters are both getting married in the next year, so I thought this would come in quite handy and get LOTS of use between 2 weddings and Christmas cards :)) Hope it works just as well as what it says ;)
Wishing you and your family a great fall weekend . . . Let’s hope our Pens do much better tomorrow night than they did last night. AND of course our Steelers on MNF.
I love your Friday things ive been following your post for 3 years and i feel like part of you extended family…i cant seem to get the craigslist 1972 man looking for woman. It says not available. I love your hubbys pic of the great escape.
Well i live in on an island from St Thomas Virgin Islands i wish you a warm and happy weekend and all of your boys too!
Lisa
I get the same message.
Oh no! I thought maybe it was removed, but I was able to pull it up:

I’m so glad your little one has those precious dogs to grow up with – but I think your little one is good for them, too! Keeps ’em ALL really busy playing and thinking of new stuff to do!
Thank you for the Thanksgiving chart – that really brings it into perspective for me – the girl who always has WAAAAY too much food left over! I am going to try it this year.
I’m with you on the pet raccoons – NOT EVER! They are cute, but they are wild and need to be somewhere besides my garage, porch or house! I know folks get carried away with feeding them, but they were making it just fine without help! Although, this one that is featured is pretty adorable . . . but the full time supervision thing would never do!
Wow – what a story behind that Craigslist post! I hope he finds her, too! And I hope we get to hear about it!
I just finished watching the first three seasons of “Orange is the New Black.” I know it’s not for everyone as there is a lot of explicit EVERYTHING, but it’s really, really smart, witty and good. Jodie Foster has her hand in it. Can’t wait to see season 4! If you aren’t easily offended by explicit everything, give it a shot – you won’t be disappointed. By the way – I just started watching “House of Cards.” Not hooked yet, but definitely am interested!
I have been watching the Muppets, too – it is great!
Have a great weekend, Michelle! As always, I love your pictures of your three boys!
LOVE the pics with Joseph & the dogs :) it’s amazing how boys stick with their dogs even at such a young age! Thanksgiving is so about the sidesaddle and dessert!! I never understood serving appetizers for such a big meal.
Happy Friday to you! Your Friday Things is such a wonderful idea. I love reading about your family and seeing all the “happy, funny” pictures. Always makes me smile and gives your readers a feeling of friendship. Thank you for all your efforts in making this such a fun way to get great recipes and ideas!
That stencil is awesome! I can never write straight I needed these for all the wedding invites and thank yous we had to do this year! I always send Christmas cards too! I’m definetly getting this. We are watching The Grinder, its so stupid its funny. If that makes sense. But I really luv Fred Savage from his Wonder Years days so I had to check it out! I also luv the Muppets althought I miss the old skits like Pigs in Space and the Chef….my favorite guest star was John Denver! Its much more in the now which I’m not sure I like but still watching hope I get used to it. Joseph is growing like a weed, can’t believe how big he is now. Luv that the dogs watch out for him.
I loveee raccoons and that picture makes me so happy :) Also been really enjoying the Muppets! Happy Friday :)
Happy Friday! The pictures of your boys always make me smile. Although I think sending Christmas Cards is a fading tradition it is one of the many thing I love about Christmas. But sadly even that cool template will not help my fading handwriting skills! For me Thanksgiving is all about the sides so there can never be too many.
I love reading your Friday Things – I can’t believe its already #144! Joseph is so adorable and the dogs are very handsome! Have a great weekend!
