Friday Things #538

1. We’re soaking up the last days of summer over here! Earlier this week, we took the kids to a place called Keystone Safari, which is a zoo, but you can also feed a lot of the animals. They loved the goats, reindeer, and especially the giraffes.
2. Dominic had his very first baseball practice last weekend, and it made my heart so happy to see him out there having fun and doing regular kid stuff; it will never get old or taken for granted.
3. The boys have been back into checkers and chess recently, and I love seeing them play!

4. We also went to lunch with my grandma, and then the kids taught her how to play Five Crowns Junior; it was such lovely time.
5. My grandma loaned me It Starts With Us, which she said wasn’t as good as It Ends With Us, but I’ll still give it a read as soon as I finish my current book (Husbands and Lovers). I read It Ends With Us nearly two years ago, so I might need a recap first!
6. Tomorrow is National Waffle Day; whip up a batch of my favorite buttermilk waffles for breakfast (or dinner!).
7. I definitely need to practice this more >> The Benefits of Being a Patient Person
Save This Recipe
8. School snacks and lunches are on the horizon; do your kids have any favorites that you want to share?
9. We are into the second season of Your Honor (on Netflix), and OH MY GOODNESS, it is so, so good. Twist after twist… can’t get enough.
10. TGIF! The comfiest dog there ever was…

I have been having fun cooking all sorts of items in my waffle iron. A delicious item: Oil the iron first. Put in a layer of shredded cheddar. Add sliced or diced onion. (I blanched mine first), then a layer of diced red bell pepper and another layer of cheese. Bake for a couple of minutes. Check for crispness periodically. YUM!
I gotta get on this National Waffle Day celebration!! Yum!
Hi Michelle,
I can’t wait for Fall weather & new & old Fall recipes. Nothing like baking with apples, cinnamon & pumpkin. Makes the house smell warm and welcoming. I fall in love with your family every time I read Friday Things. So happy for Dominic and how well he is doing & getting back into his favorite sports and all the things he loves to do. I understand the stress your family has been under through all of the treatments. My 89 year old husband has been getting Immunotherapy therapy treatments for skull cancer for the past two years. In October he will be off treatments and the past 3 PET Scans have been perfect. My family & I feel so blessed to have this news. I love your recipes, especially the baking ones, as baking is my specialty. Wishing much continued good health to you and your beautiful family.
Hugs, Linda Miller
Love all of your great news and wonderful pics! Summer flew by for sure. I love your book recommendations, too. I started watching Your Honor this past week and just finished episode 5 of the first season. It is so good! I always look forward to your Friday Things. You are such an inspiration! Both as a sweet loving mother and a yummy food blogger :)
How totally awesome to see Dominic being able to be a “kid”. As a retired Pediatric nurse it brings such joy to my heart
Will be a marvelous healing fall for all of you
God is good
Isn’t your house ever messy?
lol yes, with three kids for sure! But we try to have everyone pick up a couple of times a day… this picture was right after breakfast, so the day was young ;-)
Michelle, you have beautiful children. You can tell when children are happy and content.
I have a question, In your photos this week at Keystone Safari, the black animals the kids are feeding, what are called if I may ask?
I am in Akron Ohio, been years since going to Grove City.
Thanks, Paulette
Hi Paulette, They were a type of goat!
Dominic’s baseball outing filled my heart with such joy and put the biggest smile on my face…
ABUNDANT BLESSINGS little one…
So happy to see Dominic feeling good! That’s a good lesson for us all, never take anything for granted. Love your emails
Thank you for sharing.
