Friday Things #570

1. We took our first-ever spring break trip with the kids last week! We went down to Oak Island, NC and we weren’t quite sure what to expect from the weather since it was still April, but it ended up being absolutely beautiful and, quite frankly, so much better than summer weather. It was in the mid to upper 70s all week and we basically had the beach to ourselves; it was so relaxing and just what we all needed.
2. Now we’re in the throes of Maycember (when May sneakily tries to compete with December with all of the events on the calendar), and the mad dash to the end of the school year is on ๐
3. AND Dominic is making his First Communion this weekend! So many fun things.
4. I have to give Joseph so much credit because he chose to give up candy for Lent and was so steadfast in his decision, turning down candy at school when it was offered, not having any when Dominic or Isabelle would have some at home, and turning it down when passed out by coaches after hockey games. I was so proud of him, and he was so excited to eat a chocolate-covered pretzel on Easter ๐
5. One of the best decisions that I made before our vacation was ordering a second sound machine to take with us. This is the one that Isabelle uses in her room at home, and last year on vacation there were a lot of night wakings with complaints of “weird noises”, which you know, totally normal for young kids in a new/different places, but I hoped to minimize that this year, and this worked wonderfully. They are super small, have tons of sounds to choose from, and are easy for the kids to use on their own. They also insisted on bringing their bedroom clocks, since they remembered that there weren’t clocks in the bedrooms last year and they wanted to be able to know what time it was when they woke up ๐
6. From a recent James Clear newsletter:
A reminder for us all, from an Unknown source, to appreciate the opportunity we have right now:
“If you’re 37… Instead of regretting that you can’t wake up age 18 again, pretend to yourself that you’re 90 and you’ve woken up age 37 again, and that you get to magically, wonderfully have the next 50 years again.”
7. A great read >> When Your Cup is Empty
8. I’m working on some advanced planning for the site – what are some new recipes you’d love to see me share here?
9. What are you watching? We LOVED Paradise on Hulu; since then, we’ve watched some new episodes of Black Snow and I can’t remember what else. Do you have a series you’re loving right now?!
10. TGIF!ย Our pups had a great time at the beach, too ๐

Do you like medical shoes? The Pitt on Max is so good!!!
Congratulations and prayers to Dominic on his First Communion! Our granddaughter had hers today as well! I am impressed with Joseph and his Lenten sacrifice! Loved the vacation pictures it looked like so much fun!ย
We binged Ransom Canyon on Netflix last weekend. Can’t wait for deason 2! And I watched the whole Matlock season on Paramount over the last 2 months. I love Kathy Bates! She’s a hoot in this series. And just a good recipe recommendation, King Ranch Chicken casserole! My new favorite. I think it’s a Pioneer Woman recipe but you can find variations on Pinterest.
I’ve tried for years to make a traditional bee sting cake, but all recipes have fallen short and have been dry and tasteless. I would love to see your interpretation.
Thank you
I’m glad you and your family had a nice vacation!! I gave up candy for Lent like Joseph! Congratulations to Dominic making his First Holy Comunion.๐
Hi Michelle! Your newsletters are so endearing and fun, always lovely to read and your recipes are spot on! With summer just around the corner Iโd like to request one pot or skillet meals, anything to avoid turning the oven on. Thank you!
Sounds like the family had a wonderful time. So happy for you all.
As far as television shows, I love resident Alien; so funny and well acted. Paradise was really good too. Looking forward to Miss Austen on my local PBS station.
I love salad recipes especially with summer coming.
Iโm loving the latest season of The Handmaidโs Tale and Brokenwood and also all the seasons of Sullivanโs Crossing. ย The scenery is stunning.
Your holiday sounds wonderful.
Congratulations to Joseph on his Lenten sacrifice. God will surely bless him. Good job Mom & Dad..your guidance & his determination.
ย
Dominic has a special weekendโฆGod bless!
We just finished the series Younger. It’s on Netflix but was originally elsewhere, not sure where. We’ve also enjoyed Resident Alien and The Rookie.
Blessings for Dominic this weekend with his First Communion. And Joseph did amazing during Lent, so impressive! Your pictures are always the best and great tips for the young ones on vacation. Have a great weekend!
Have you watched Friends and Neighbors on Apple TV – it’s GREAT
Thank you for sharing your beach vacation. I love the beach. Prayers for all the kids and their families making First Communion. Sarris chocolate covered pretzels are my favorite.
Praying for Dominic this weekend! My grandson is also making his First Communion this weekend!
Awe! Joseph is Ah-Mazing for his dedication this Lent! I slipped up a few times in my dedication!
Blessings on your family in the month of Mary!!
This post was packed with good news. Congrats and many blessings to Dominic on his First Communion. Congrats and proud of Josephโs Lenten promise. So happy for you and your family that your trip was even better than expected, even for The Pups! Always a nice surprise- very clever taking sound machine and clocks ๐ Regarding recipesโ- I would love some new main dish salad ideas. My husbandโs schedule has been very chaotic lately and Big Salads have been the go-to meals several nights a week.
Happy Weekend to all!
Hi Michelle, those are beautiful pictures of the beach, I actually imagined myself there for just a minute. I am not a fan of summertime with all the head and humidity but I do love going to the beach. We are not going until August so I have a while to wait. It looks like the kids had a ball!
Oh yes, May. So much is going on it is hard to keep up. My granddaughter graduates from 8th grade and goes to high school next year, so my grandson and granddaughter will be in different schools for one year since her brother is one year behind her, so next year the pickup will be brutal.
I just got Hulu, I am in to the home reno type of shows, I love Sarah Richardson and just found her mountain escape series, I am only half way thru but tonight I am planning to watch at least 3 more in a row and can’t wait!
I hope you and your family have a great weekend!!! Sounds like rain here on the east coast but I am ok with that, lots to do inside! :)
I’d like to see some easy “park snack/light lunch” ideas. ย I often take my grandchildren to the park. Sometimes they play for just an hour, but it has gone to 3 or 4 and I need something to feed them. A juice box and PB crackers isn’t enough. ย Finger food please. I don’t want to mess around with plastic cutlery.
Thanks for reminding me of Black Snow. Forgot all about it.
Not much on right now I want to watch.
