Friday Things #587

1. Hello and happy Friday! It’s been a while since I popped in on a Friday, much overdue! Have you been buried in snow? Wow, it’s been awhile since our area got so much snow in one winter, and it’s been enjoyable!
2. I’ve received many messages asking about Dominic – here is a quick update! He had cycles of treatment in January and then in early February, both of which went smoothly. He is scheduled to have a full-body scan next week to check disease status and determine next steps moving forward. Please pray with us that the relapsed spots are now clear 🙏🏻 He is feeling really good!
3. We have an Olympics hangover here; we enjoyed watching so much and did so every evening after dinner. It was a really fun little tradition. Did you have any favorite events? I think our kids enjoyed the speed skating, snowboard cross, and the half pipe the best! Isabelle loved the biathlon where they skiied and did shooting, oh and we all liked the head-to-head moguls… and hockey, of course! So many fun things to watch.
4. Have you read any good books yet this year? So far I’ve finished:
- The Winners (the third book in the Beartown series by Fredrik Backman; HIGHLY recommend anything he writes!)
- Carrie Soto is Back (okay, would give it 4 stars)
- One Golden Summer (Carley Fortune’s first book, Every Summer After, was one of my favorite books a few years ago and this one was great, too)
- Currently reading: Buckeye (I’m not very far into it yet!)
5. Speaking of books, did you see that Netflix is doing an adaptation of The God of the Woods? I read it last year, it was SUCH a good book!

6. If you need some meat-free dinner options for Lent this year, here are a few great options:
- Homemade Pierogies
- Beer Battered Cod
- Tuna Noodle Casserole
- Homemade Fish Sticks
- Coconut Shrimp with Mango Sauce
- Crab Cakes with Remoulade Sauce
7. Such a great mindset shift >> “New goals don’t deliver new results. New lifestyles do. And a lifestyle is a process, not an outcome. For this reason, all of your energy should go into building better habits, not chasing better results.” (from the James Clear newsletter)
8. While we are (maybe?) on the backend of winter and heading toward spring, this read really resonated with me and made so much sense >> The Art of Wintering
9. What are you watching now that the Olympics are over? We’re currently watching the new season of Night Agent.
10. TGIF! Have a cozy weekend!

Michelle, It was so good to see you email today! May next week be filled with many blessings for Dominic during his testing!🙏 Our daily prayers are there for him and your beautiful family!🙏 Thank you for sharing the recipes for Lent! ✝️
I’m so glad to hear that Dominic has been progressing through his treatments so far. I’ve been wondering how he has been faring! Praying for good results for his upcoming scans, and for prayers of peace for all of you as you wait. Also, thanks for the recommendation of the book The God of the Woods – sounds like an unusual read but would be fun to have read it by the time a movie version comes out.
Friday Things, YAY. Thank you for the update on Dominic. You and your family are in my prayers.
So good to get your email today, and thank you for the update on how everyone is doing.
I read a wonderful book recently and wanted to share it. The author is Allen Levi and it is his first novel, the title is Theo of Golden.
A lovely read!
Sending prayers to you all.
Your dog 🐕 is adorable and in 70 in Southern Illinois!!
Missed reading your column on a regular basis but definitely understand. Dominic & your entire family are in my prayers!
Do glad Dominic is feeling good! Praying for positive results on his scan.
Im in southern California and its ridiculously warm, 88 today!
Thank you for all your great recipes❤️
Beautiful puppy! prayers for Dominick.
Have you read any of Kristin Hannah’s books? I recently read 3 of them and bought 3 more. I recommend “The Women” about women in Viet Nam as well as “The Four Winds” and “The Nightengale”. All very good. Her books are generally 450-500 pages long but you don’t want to put them down.
Great to hear Dominic is feeling good and hoping for great results from his upcoming scan. I’m in southeastern BC and we’ve only had 2 minor snowfalls this year which is very weird. Hoping our wildfire season doesn’t suffer because of it. Lovely to receive another Friday Things!
Our book club just read Theo of Golden and really enjoyed it. This month’s selection is Finding Salvation at the Dairy Queen but I’m not far enough into it to have an opinion. I’m also wanting to read American Sirens which is the story of Freedom House, the first ambulance service formed in Pittsburgh.
Thanks for the updates! And prayers for Dominic and the family. Stay warm…we are supposed to be getting a spring thaw, soon!
He’s such a brave boy and we will keep him in our prayers.
Thank you for updating us about Dominic. <3
Thanks for the recipes again. Hope all is well with the family. Prayers always
Thank you for the update. Prayers always:)
