Friday Things #342
1. This girl had her 18-month checkup and has skyrocketed to the 88th percentile in height and 86th in weight, which I know doesn’t mean much because babies and kids grow and slow down at all different times, but it does explain why people who see her and ask how old she is then inevitably respond with, “oh my gosh, she’s so tall!”. She obviously has not gotten those genes from her 5’1 mother ;-)
2. Nothing makes Dominic quite as happy as when he gets to use his own umbrella… I love how much joy these kids get from the small things in life :)
3. Joseph is LOVING hockey! He works really hard and is enjoying it so much; it’s a big jump for him because it’s a full hour and none of the other classes or lessons he’s done (skating, swimming, etc.) have never been longer than 30 minutes. He’s always starving afterward :)
4. Do you have a favorite cuticle cream or oil that you swear by? I’d love for mine to stop looking so dry and gnarly, ugh.
5. Have you heard that Pam and Angela from The Office created a podcast (it debuted this week) called “The Office Ladies“?? They’re rewatching each episode and talking about it, the behind the scenes, etc. I cannot WAIT to listen! The Office remains one of my very favorite shows of all time – it’s still one of the only shows that makes me belly laugh when I watch it!
6. Too early for holiday candy? Never! I promise that people will clamor for slow cooker peanut clusters at any time of year.
7. I’ve wanted to traipse through New England during the fall for as long as I can remember and these pictures are making me wish I could teletransport myself!
8. Can I just say how much I absolutely loathe scary movies? Anyone else? I just can’t make myself be terrified on purpose; I find no joy in it!
9. Talk to me about weighted blankets… I mean, is it just a heavy blanket? I can’t wrap my head around this phenomenon!
10. TGIF! All spruced up for fall!
Beautiful all of kids (including the doggy:) You are such a nice family.
Try Ella + Mila Oil Me Up cuticle oil. It is available at Target.
Random question: Which of your recipes would you recommend for a bake sale? (I’m not skilled in piping frosting)
And I am totally with you on the scary movies!
I love the feeling of the weighted blanket; find it comforting. The sensation is not very different from the feeling of the heavy apron used when you receive dental x-rays.
Adorable photos, Michelle!! :-) I’m with you on the scary movies. Yuk! Thanks for another great post!
I LOVE my weighted blanket, but I’ve always loved heavy covers and blankets on me. I sleep so much better with it. I even bring it with me when I travel if I am driving.
So many cute comments. Love the one saying you seem 5″9…what a cute comment and so true. You are fierce yet adorable so you do seem mighty tall😊 I haven’t seen a scary movie in too many years to even count. Dont like them at all. But oddly I enjoy detective shows. The real ones like Dateline. Isabelle looks soooo adorable, what pretty baby skin and her eyes. So cute with puppy next to her..and of course doggie smiling on last pic. Love all of Dominic’s orange colored stuff..shoes etc. You buy neat kids clothes. Have a great weekend.
My 3 yo great-niece also loves going out with her umbrella in the rain & snow. I too refuse to watch scary movies – who wants to be scared? I don’t get it. Weighted blankets were originally for children who needed to be soothed. I guess the manufacturers decided they needed a bigger market, so now they’re trying to convince adults that they need them too. Not me! I like to be warm in the winter, but not with heavy covers. LOVE Dominic’s shoes!
I ho back and forth on scary movies – I too need to work on my cuticles- and my dry skin on my hands from doing dishes at the family cafe all day..lol…I next to try making the peanut clusters – they look yummy. The kids and doggies look great as usual!
1) Onyx brand Hard As Hoof is an amazing nail strengthener and cuticle cream. It is aptly named since the product rubbed into horse’s hooves greatly improved their handler’s nails. It has a pleasant smell and your cuticles and nails will enjoy a regular slathering.
2). Weighted blankets. That feeling when your babes fell asleep on your chest and all was right with the world? That’s the divinity of a weighted blanket. It’s a soothing, calming, blissful experience. Highly recommended.
Love your blog and seeing pictures of your precious babies and dogs. Look I went and purchased a rather pricey weighted blanket and just knew I would love it. I hated it. It was like laying under the lead blanket at the dentist office when you get x-rays. I know that lots of people love their weighted blankets but it was literally the worst night sleep ever. I gave it to my son to try and he too said “mama that was the worst night of sleep, I could not get comfortable under that blanket.” So if you like the lead blanket at the dentist office then you might like one. We did not like it at our house. :)
I am loving the Cuccio Revitalize Cuticle Oil in Milk and Honey. I buy it from Amazon and apply it nightly before bed. My cuticles have never looked so good!

#6 – I was just thinking about the peanut cluster recipe this week (I knew I’d saved it but had never gotten around to making it) because I got some packaged chocolate covered peanuts that were just ok and knew yours looked way better…perhaps the universe is telling me to finally to make them.
#8 – I’m so with you on scary movies! I’ve hated them since I was at a high school swim team sleepover and they watched The Exorcist and I called my parents to come get me. The real world is scary enough; I don’t need more creepy stuff on top of it!
Too funny about the Excorcist. Scariest movie of all time for me. We saw it as kids…what were our parents thinking. Jaws too…swimming in the ocean was never the same for me after that movie lol.
Michelle – I love your Friday things posts! You always have something that interests me other than food in them. The fall pictures are gorgeous – thanks for sharing them. I live in Washington state and we have beautiful autumn leaves but so many evergreens that it’s just not the same as the east coast/New England experience.
I also detest scary movies too and even the commercials for them bother me.
Thank you for sharing the littles in your life too – your children are darling and your life experiences raising them make me remember my own and your joy with them makes me smile!
Could not be more aligned with your thinking on scary movies. Hate them. Never watched them as a kid but once in college I was talked into going to the student union with a group to “watch” a scary movie. I put quotes around watch because I don’t think I saw more than 5 minutes of it. Eyes closed the entire time. College was a long time ago for me – but I remember that I definitely, absolutely can’t stand them!! I don’t get it.
I really enjoy seeing how much your children are growing from week to week! Joseph in his hockey uniform put the biggest smile on my face.
I love Essie Apricot oil. It comes in a bottle like fingernail polish and is so easy to “paint “ on and rub in before I go to bed.
Have a great weekend!
I love NAILSINC. I found it @ Sephora. It’s an oil blend of 3 oils…argan, almond, and rose hips, has a soft smell and really works for nails and cuticles. I love the picture of your kiddos,so sweet, especially Isabelle and Judith?, who seems to be in dog heaven. I absolutely hate scary movies, do not watch them. They are not like the old scary movies Hollywood used to make!
I LOVE scary movies, and have ever since I was a little kid. I pretty much only like scary movies, the rest of them bore me. (I have a short attention span) And honestly, the scary ones rarely ever scare me.
oh my gosh! you so come across as 5’9″ LOL
would never have put you in 5’1″ arena!
TGIF!!
I’m totally with you about scary movies!!! I am 69 years old. As long as I can remember I’ve absolutely hated them!!!! Don’t understand the attraction.
A local company in my town makes all natural products. I use many of them and they are fantastic. Their nail & cuticle cream is the best I’ve used. Their website is rowecasaorganics.com. They ship everywhere. They may be a little pricey but the products are wonderful. They also have a full line of baby products and doggy products.
I listened to The Office Ladies podcast this week, & it’s pretty good! Really interesting behind-the-scenes info. Anyone who loves the office will enjoy it.
I also wonder about weighted blankets; it seems like it would be uncomfortable.
Have a great weekend! Looking forward to your Saturday post; I love seeing what the top recipes were for the week & other recipes you’ve bookmarked.
But of course Dominic loves his umbrella…It has construction vehicles all over so how could he not??
I recently heard Hoda Kotb speaking about her daughter Haley and how she reacts with absolute joy when she encounters something new or just even notices something simple like pockets. She said they were out waking one day recently and Haley noticed she had pockets in the jacket she was wearing. She proceed to announce “I have pockets!” to strangers they passed on the street. Hoda said she was throughly enjoying seeing simple things through the eyes of her child.
Have a great weekend!
#4 – I swear by the Sally Hanson Cuticle Eraser + Balm (it is a green and white swirled cream in a Flat pot). It moisturizes and exfoliates. I have a bad habit of picking at my cuticles and the dry skin around my nails and this saves me. It is the beauty product that I have re-purchased the most, by far.
My son has watched & rewatched The Office 7 times over the last year or so, he loves it. I just sent him the link to the podcast, I’ll bet he watches again, lol.
I’ve found that DermaNail works very well. Also slathering Jergen’s Ultra Healing lotion on my hands throughout the day prevents drying of hands and cuticles.
Happy Friday!
I’m with you on the scary movies. Never have liked them!
As for the weighted blanket, it has really helped our son sleep. He has never been a good sleeper even as a baby. He was also diagnosed with adhd in 3rd grade. The weighted blanket seems to calm him down at night and helps him relax and get to sleep. Before the blanket, my husband used to hug him and he would fall asleep. I think he just likes something wrapped around him.
#4 – Burt’s Bees Lemon Cuticle Cream.
YES!! Was just coming on to comment that. Love the Burt’s bees cuticle cream, I keep it with me at all times.
That’s my favorite too!!!!
