Friday Things #516
1. Last weekend, Isabelle wanted to work on riding her bike… last summer she hadn’t quite mastered riding without training wheels and wanted to start trying again. By Sunday afternoon, she was off completely on her own, riding around with her brothers, even figuring out how to get herself started on her own. She was so proud and I was so happy for her!
2. The best part, though? We got back from the grocery store on Sunday and she asked if I could help her when I was done putting away groceries and I said, sure. After I was done, I went outside and found Joseph helping her, beaming, telling me what a great job she was doing. He was so proud of her and was doing such a great job with her, and my heart nearly burst.
3. Yesterday was a big day for Dominic… he got to take a shower for the first time in nearly two years! He had to keep his wound site dry for 10 days following his central line removal last week, and he knew today was the day he could shower. As soon as he got home from school he hopped right in; he loved it and I can’t even express how happy I am for him.
4. Have you bought anything during Amazon’s Big Spring Sale? I haven’t yet, but I’m browsing! Let me know below if you’ve found any good deals!
5. Love this idea >> The One Hour Each Week That Will Change Your Life For the Better
6. Are you watching March Madness? It’s been an exciting week here since our alma mater unbelievably won their conference and made the tournament, THEN they pulled off an upset yesterday! Can’t wait to watch again this weekend!
7. I finished reading The Women by Kristin Hannah a couple of days ago and oh my goodness, WHAT A BOOK. It’s the fourth book of hers I’ve read (I had previously read The Four Winds, The Nightingale, and The Great Alone), and I FLEW through this one so much faster than any of the others, pretty much unable to put it down from the beginning. It was a phenomenal story and I just wanted it to keep going. I actually learned quite a bit about history, too. An easy five stars (and then some!).
8. Have you ever tried Wildgrain? They ship frozen bread, pastas, baked goods, etc. and then you bake them from frozen. I’m thinking about trying it!
9. LOVE the mute button >> How to Mute Friends & Not Alienate People
10. TGIF! She keeps my side of the bed warm while I shower before bed 😍
It has been such joy (and worry) to watch your beautiful family grow over these years. But there was something about the big brother helping their little sister ride a bike that just warmed my heart. And Dominic’s glee at a long shower. You have been through a lot but you have set such a high bar as how to handle it all. May you have peaceful, ordinary days ahead.
First of all, I wanted to say that I’m so happy for your wonderful family for the amazing progress Dominic has made! We’ve been praying for him and for your family throughout and will continue to pray for his well being. Your kids are absolutely adorable and also seem to be such well-behaved and happy kids. They remind me a lot of my kids when they were that age (they’re now adults and I couldn’t be prouder of them).
I also wanted to mention that if you’re on the Kristin Hannah reading train, I’ve got a couple of hers you would love, Firefly Lane and The Winter Garden. I think I’ve read every single book she’s written and The Winter Garden was the best by far (but all of them were really good). The Winter Garden is powerful and emotional. I read it years ago and I still talk about it to this day, that’s how much of an impact it had on my life.
So happy for Dominic! As a cancer survivor, I can relate, those ‘little’ things are actually huge. Continued prayers for all of you!
I’m also a proud Duquesne Univ alum, and March Madness was a blast! Looking forward to the Dukes next season!
Happy Easter!
I love my Wildgrain subscription! After the 1st box, you can choose the schedule that best suits your needs and you can choose what products you want. The croissants are devine and the waffles are delicious! Dominic looks so happy after his shower! I always look forward to the pics of your fur babies.
I started ordering Wildgrain a couple of months ago, and have received two boxes thus far. I have been very pleased with all of the products and look forward to getting more deliveries. It is a bit pricey, but the products are very high quality. We have really enjoyed the giant chocolate chip cookies :-)
Michelle, your children are all so loving; may that always be so. Thank you for sharing the book suggestion, The Women, I look forward to reading it.
So pleased for your son & you must be over the moon.
All of Kristin Hannah books are wonderful. The Women was a book I couldn’t put down. I am happy that the kids are doing well. Keeping Dominic in my prayers. Enjoy your weekend.
Love Joseph helping Isabelle-agree so heart warming! I finished The Women last week as well – amazing book! And Dominic’s smile! Thank you for the uplifting post!
Hi Michelle, Have you watched Steeltown Murders? It’s based on a true story in Wales. Excellent! Also, The Tourist is really good!
Yay for your kids doing so well. Does a mama’s heart good💙💙💖
Hi I have been using Wildgrain for about 5 months now. Its very convenient. I like that I can switch up my order and change the date of delivery to any time too. The breads are good and super easy, just preheat throw it in the oven for 20 mins ( depending on which one you get) then you need to rest it for about 10 mins. They have Breads, Pastas and Sweets. Oh and for 12 items its $168 but they do have a smaller 6 piece you can order.
Hope this helps
Jennifer
A big day for Dominic. And kudos for Isabella and her bike riding. Joseph is a good big brother. Let us know about Wildgrains if you try it.
Who knew a shower could be such a wonderful thing?
I am so happy to hear Dominic enjoyed one of the things he has missed for two years.
That boy is truly special.
And YAY for Isabelle and Joseph…working together to accomplish a goal.
Have a great weekend.
What wonderful milestones for your family this past week!! Yay!!
So, so, so happy for Dominic. I would be in that shower so fast as well!! God love him…all his courage & bravery ….he is a beautiful child!!
Isabelle….you go , girl!! How exciting!!🚴♀️
Happy Friday Michelle! Thanks for sharing the updates on your family – they are growing up so fast. And I am with Dominic as I would have been in the shower the minute my 10 days was up 😀
Proud Duquesne alum here also and so proud of our team. What an exciting season so far. Keep on dancing Dukes!
I’m so happy for Dominic! Wanted to let you know I have used Wildgrain for maybe a year now and I love it. I am getting a shipment today! Delicious, quality food and great flexibility on the ordering. I think you’ll like it!
What a wonderful week for all! Thank you for the book and mindfulness notes. Wishing you and your family (and your team) a great weekend!
Such wonderful accomplishments for all your kiddos this week! Having none at home any more, it’s so fun to watch yours grow and learn here.
I had a subscription to Wild Grain for a while, and it was ok, but not spectacular. I really loved their fresh pasta, and the whole wheat bread they offered. Everything else was just .
I love Kristen Hannah, too. In fact I have read at least 10 of her books and every one of them was great! Also, I am so glad that your children are flourishing, learning and growing Good job Michelle!!
Congratulation to Isabelle! Your kids are amazing. I am so happy for Dominic, this is a major accomplishment for him!!
When I saw the title “The Great Alone”, I knew that sounded familiar, years ago I read The Great Alone, written by Janet Daily. How funny that they both have the same title to their books. Janet Daily was such a great author, she started out writing Hallmark books but moved on to bigger novels and I thought, she was very good. I used to read everything she wrote. In my opinion, The Calder series was the best of her compilations, I believe there were 5 books in the series.
Have a great weekend, they are calling for quite a bit of rain here tonight and tomorrow but sometimes rainy days are fun. :)
I love Kristen Hannah books too and have just finished The Women – so good! You must read her book True Colors as well – a great story!
