Friday Things
1. Joseph turned TWO MONTHS OLD yesterday. Can you believe it?! I certainly can’t. He continues to be absolutely awesome and the most fun. It’s been a blast to watch him do new things, like massive, open-mouth smiles, which are pretty much the best thing ever. He’s also loving his activity mat and staring up at all the different toys. We’re getting into more of a groove here… most mornings and afternoons are pretty predictable with naps and feedings; dinnertime and beyond, however, can still be hit or miss. He’s sleeping pretty well through the night, getting up once between 3-5am and then again between 6:30-8:00am. I can’t get over how much heavier and longer he is than just a month ago! His 2-month appointment is on Tuesday, so I’m anxious to see how much he officially grew.
2. Speaking of kid things, I was an avid colorer when I was younger, and then I picked it up again in college. Something about coloring has always been so relaxing to me, so I was ecstatic when I saw that an illustrator had released two coloring books made specifically for adults. They’re gorgeous! They’re also sold out on Amazon… bummer! Hopefully they’re back in stock soon!
3. A quick product-I’m-loving plug – I have really fine hair and started using Bumble & Bumble’s Thickening line of products a few months ago and instantly noticed a difference. I use the shampoo and conditioner, as well as the thickening mousse. If you have fine hair, I’d definitely recommend it!
4. I looooove burgers so this massive compilation of cheeseburger ideas is a dream come true!
5. My husband and I are big into road trips and not at all into flying, so this map detailing how to drive across the U.S. hitting all the major landmarks is a total bucket list item for me. Also related – I’d love to buy an enormous RV for this adventure… maybe a retirement thing ;-)
6. I ate chili this week but neglected to buy Fritos. Huge mistake… it just isn’t the same.
7. Dying at Buzzfeed’s farewell to Internet Explorer.
8. I’m currently stocking our freezer with Graeter’s ice cream, caramel pretzel Klondikes and ice cream sandwiches. I’m more than ready for the warm weather!
9. How is your March Madness bracket after day one? Mine is surprisingly still pretty much intact, which never happens. I’m sure it’ll be destroyed by the end of today :)
10. TGIF! Einstein will be over here, hoarding toys… all weekend…
excellent content congratulations, for mothers who have sleep problems with their baby, I recommend this: http://bit.ly/2S1wsCH
We love everything about your blogs, always so informative and entertaining, but that roadtrip guide is awesome, I’m adding that as a favorite :-)
My wife and I do a lot of traveling in our 5th wheel camper but since we live in New Brunswick (on the East Coast of Canada), our trips have been mostly along the Eastern Seaboard. Beause we’re limited by vacation we haven’t ventured very far inland (besides Tennessee and Kentucky) so we’re also looking forward to retirement when we can travel even farther!!
By the way, we also have two Goldens, Chance and Hope, so we absolutely love to read about your puppies :-)
I NEED one of those coloring books and the IE goodbye is hilarious!
Have a great weekend!
That. Baby. Is delicious. Seems like yesterday mine were babies. Enjoy him. Time just goes soo fast.
Your son is adorable! Makes me want one. I find it so funny how you try to thicken your hair, I have spent my whole life trying to make mine thinner or flatten it! Always want what you don’t have haha.
My husband’s bucket list is to go across the country too. That is great!
wow…. coloring books for grown-ups!!!!! they are great …I looked ASAP. I loved it as a kid (putting make-up on Barbie in coloring books). I ordered 3 similar books they had in stock ( 2 were about $4,), colored pencils and gel pens. Gotta love Amazon Prime :)
Love seeing photos of your boys… All 3 :)
Hello little angel…prettier and prettier…! You and your lucky parents may have our Lord’s blessings every time you take a breath…!
I have often remarked that I would love to color again. I’m crushing on that coloring book. I love Bumble and Bumble’s Thickening Shampoo, but I stick with their Super Rich Conditioner. I have insanely fine hair and I also love Oribe Dry. It’s a dry shampoo – I bet it would be a new mom’s secret weapon for great hair :)
Joseph really is adorable! He looks so alert and I just love his little chin!
Oh My Gosh!!! Your son is ab-freakin-lutely ADORABLE!! I love that look he is giving!! *L* I so enjoy your emails and your website. I must admit your Friday Things is my personal fav! I luved it for the cutesy, neat info you posted, and the endings with Duke and Einstein…BONUS!!! Now, we get all that and an ADDED BONUS of Joseph! Perfect. Thanks for the coloring book idea…I am soooooo watching for this! *L* Have a FAB weekend!!! P.S….the Bechamel Sauce..we tried that this week. It was sooooo good!!! Thanks Michelle!
Thanks for the coloring book recommendation! It looks lovely!
Here’s where I can see the generation difference in us. Believe it or not I actually DID get to do adult “coloring” as a teenager. As soon as I saw the pictures on the link of the things people are coloring it reminded me of the folders and a few other things but it was mostly folders that were a BIG DEAL when I was in high school. It was my first year or two, I can’t remember exactly what years any more, it’s getting to be quite a few since I was in any school. I’m sure everyone has or has seen the pocket folders people still use to this day to store papers, reports, all sorts of things in. As a matter of fact right now I have several with BEAUTIFUL golden retrievers on which I haven’t a clue what to do with but I just couldn’t resist them. Well we had folders idential to these “coloring” items and what we all used to color were very fine felt tip pens, in NUMEROUS colors. In fact, sometimes we would get in trouble in class because we were “coloring” instead of paying attention or taking notes. After all, you didn’t go anywhere without all of your coloring pens. It goes without saying this was mostly a girl thing. Teenage guys back in the mid 1970s wouldn’t have been caught dead coloring in these things as they often ended up having unicorns and all sorts of things like that on the pages. While I always did love coloring and loved it when I “had” to color with a child while babysitting or something along those lines, my true love as a child, a pretty young child (aside from my Barbie’s) was fingerpainting. Do kids even DO fingerpainting anymore? I LOVED fingerpainting in kindergarten and first grade. To this day, FAR too many years ago now, I can still feel that silky, smooth, wonderful feel of the special paper with the water and the paint. Now if they came up with adult fingerpainting I’d be there in a heartbeat. It really is a shame when you think about it that we MUST give up these things we love as children because they’re considered too babyish for anyone over the age of elementary school to be doing. Heck, today, kids “age” so early I bet they consider these things too babyfied even in elementary school. But just think, you get to do all of those things with your son. And what’s nice is now they make SO MANY things to do at home that when I was little one ONLY ever did at school. There were no such things as home fingerpainting kits in the 1960s. I look forward to seeing your creations down the road.
Joseph does seem to be growing very well – will recommend the hair thickening stuff to my mom and my niece who both have fine hair
Joseph is adorable! They grow so fast, I love when it seems like their whole body is one big bouncy smile! My daughter and I love coloring! She is 25 and I’m a whole lot older! It is so relaxing! When I babysit for my neighbor’s kids, they always want me to color with them, then they want to quit and I have to finish my picture perfectly…maybe I need help! Lol! I am going to order those books.
March Madness is always fun for KU (Kansas) fans. One game down. Rock Chalk Jayhawks. Joseph is adorable!
I love the coloring books! Thank you for sharing the awesomeness. I’m also so ready for spring (though- snow Monday in Chicago. BOO, Spring. BOO.) and will need to stock my freezer with frozen dairy in a likewise manner.
Love Joseph’s picture! He is growing so fast! I forgot how quickly they grow and change! I know Duke loves him, but Einstein become more interested in him? Is the toy hoarding something he has always done? He looks pretty comfy in his picture, too!
Do you use crayons to color? If so, go to the artist section of Michael’s, Hobby Lobby, whatever store you have where you live, and get some really nice colored pencils. You will never go back to crayons! They are so nice if you get good ones! Those adult coloring books are gorgeous!
See you next week! Have a fabulous weekend with your sweet little family!
I hate to fly. Scares me to death! And I saw that map yesterday and would LOVE to do even a part of it! Maybe, one day!
Thanks for the Buzzfeed’s post. I’m still laughing – and I shared it on Facebook for all my geek friends!
While Amazon may be sold out of the coloring books Barnes and Noble sells them and they are in stock! :) I’m going to pick up the two books she has out. Now I have to decide if I’m going to use colored pencils, crayon pens, or crayons.
Your son gets cuter in every picture.
1. What a cutie! Thanks for keeping us updated. 2. I use products from Living Proof on my fine hair and it works wonders. If B&B starts giving you a build up on your hair, try switching to this product. And I just might try B&B’s products sometime. 3. Who among us doesn’t love to color. I didn’t know about the coloring books but will surely look them up sometime, when I find time. 4. Right now might be the perfect time to learn a new craft. Actually before getting pregnant was the perfect time but anytime is perfect. Learn how to sew or quilt. You will find it very relaxing and rewarding. I learned when my little girl was in an infant seat and sometimes I had to take her with me to classes. Now I get to sew for my granddaughter and teach my daughter how to sew. She wishes she had done so years ago before they had Audrey. But it’s never too late. You’re young and I wish I was that way once again. 5. Love your puppies.
Joseph is such a cute baby. He is growing so quickly.
Joseph gets more adorable with each day! He has really grown! don’t like to fly
either, so road trips sounds like a fabulous idea! I will have to try those hair products since I do have fine hair. How fun….a coloring book for grown ups!
I think coloring has a calming affect on me too! I have lots of “books”
in the house for my 3 grandsons. (and me!) Einstein is such a beautiful dog!
1. Joseph is adorable!! 2. I love to color. A new box of Crayola’s makes me giddy. 3. This is my second attempt to post this because the first time, Internet Explorer quit working and closed the program. :(
switch to Chrome of Firefox.
See #7 above :)
I know, it was fate! haha
I absolutely love everything about browneyedbaker from your recipes to Friday things. I can’t wait for Fridays to see how beautiful your baby is along with the adventures of your dogs. Keep up your great efforts. YOU are absolutely amazing! Sending you blessings and lots of positive energy!
Congratulations on 2 months! Joseph is so SO cute. My little one is just over 3 months now and I’m loving watching him grow and do new things. It’s so much fun!
You have one of the cutest babies ever! And I love your dog, I used to have one that looked just like him :) Happy Weekend!
Joseph is so adorable! Glad things are working their way into some kind Id schedule. Sounds like you’re a pro at this!
OMG…Joseph…I want to squeeze him…he is not only gorgeous and handsome but oh so cute…just too cute! :-)
I love the Bumble and Bumble product info., I will have to try them, thanks! Also I LOVE the coloring book…way cool, my daughter is going to love it…she loves coloring and art…these books combine the two…thanks for the heads up! Have a great weekend!
Greetings! I love to color too! You also need to check out the Posh coloring books….there are several of them, including a Christmas one. They have a regular sized one as well as a “pocket” size. I bought about 4 different ones, and they’re beautiful!
P.S. Joseph is absolutely adorable!!!
He has grown so much! So adorable and he really looks like a thinker too :)
I love the coloring books! I still like to color and try to talk my 9 year old daughter into coloring with me. I will have to get these coloring books for myself :)
Your son is adorable!
Books look great! Found them on Bookdepository.com- available and free shipping!
Thanks for all the amazing recipes :)
Awesome, thanks for the tip!
That road trip idea sounds like great fun! Did you know that you can rent RVs? So you won’t have to wait until retirement to drive around the country. :)
Yeah for Road Trips! I too am a huge fan of hitting the open road. Driving Route 66 is one of my bucket list items. Have a great weekend with your boys!
barnes and nobles has the coloring books. i just ordered one from them yesterday!
Oh my gosh, so good to know! I’m going to order them right now! Thank you!
He is so cute!! Speaking of burgers…I grilled last week on one of our nice spring days after months of the grill being in hibernation…that burger hit the spot for sure!!
We actually grilled burgers last week, too! SO good!
Last I checked, there were more than two coloring books by that woman, and Amazon had a few. Demand might have outstripped production by now, but man. That’s what I want for my birthday this year! And yes, we made a second Bruster’s run yesterday, too. I think we’re all ready for the warmth.
Your baby boy is beautiful!!!! Cherish every moment ;)
I just ordered the coloring book on amazon uk:-) Such a great idea! Thanks:-) Greetings from London:-)
Happy Friday – I’m glad that Joseph is doing well. He’s such a cute little nugget. I totally love coloring, too. I’ll have to check out those books on Amazon! We love traveling as well. I’ve never gone on a plane with my boyfriend, but we’ve been traveling around New England a lot lately!
Joseph is sooo cute. My babies are all in their teenage years (bar one), I’ve loved everything about them growing up. So far the teenage years have been nowhere near what people told me to expect. I love your doggy too. Is it a Golden Retriever? As we have one!! Although we call her a Golden as she’s not too keen on playing fetch!! Loved your post. Sammie http://www.feastingisfun.com
Hi Sammie, He is a Golden Retriever! We actually have two!
